  • Discovery was always my favorite shuttle

  • Comment removed

  • A nice launch. They already placed satellites on orbit, set foot on the moon, captured pictures of solar system, planets or even The Milky Way from outside the galaxy by Hubble, sent to the humans to view, but, there are still a lot to discover from the space out there, such as the sky.To the best of my knowledge, the sky has seven pieces, and the human yet to reach even the first layer of sky.My mind's question is what is it built from, what material it consist of?What is on there?Hope science& tech help.

  • Think they would cancel the shuttle with Americans still aboard the space station? Think they would cancel the shuttles without a new, far superior space craft? Think they would not have a better, more advanced mode of travel into space? They do! They are working out the 'spin' as we don't speak. Branson involved? Likely! We are FAR beyond the moon and space stations. Mars has a mineral wealth beyond calculation. Quantum-Industrial greed is not hard to predict. Wait for the unveiling...

  • ...shuttle ,s furture-gijoe.

  • :)

  • @savannahtheastronaut what the flying fuck are you jabbering about?

  • Project bluebook complete. Prepare for what they really did for the last thirty years. Does anyone ever ask what are you really doing up there and I guess there is nothing more to learn from space. I guess you have mastered space like the oceans of the planet. What have you really been doing. Oh we build space stations and sit in a void of life and just stare around in space. I did the same when I sat in the corner of the room when I was bad in school. Everyone have their dunce caps on READY

  • @highseascaptain do you mean project bluebeam?

  • @AkioDubstep Yeah I guees. I have heard it in both phrases

  • ive always-ed wanted to go into space

  • @lucyswain12 that could easily be fixed.just bring me a can of spinach and i´ll kick you into space

  • Reading "Final launch" makes me deeply regret I never tried hard enough to go and see a launch in person. 3ooo plus mph, 7 million pounds of thrust, into the universe in 3 and a half minutes. Amazing.

  • @baynerw it is amazing, and I feel the same regret...... however.... if you happen to have several million dollars lying around the russians will take you up into space in exchange for it... :-D

  • Why didn't the shuttle take Obama with them. Then they could have jettisoned his dumb ass out into space. Now that would be real space junk.

  • 0:16-0:22 such power!

  • I just watched the last space shuttle launch ever live on TV, here in Australia. We will miss you, STS!

  • @plusplusplusplusp An Aussie watching an American shuttle launch on a Russian youtube channel... The internet truly is an amazing thing. Greetings from the US, I just got back from Australia and I couldn't believe what a beautiful and incredible country it was. Good to see someone with a friendly comment for something american.

  • @NikitasGuitars

Yep, the Internet makes for funny combinations sometimes. I've been a bit of a space buff since childhood (also a bit of a Titanic buff). Australia is a nice place (if you went anywhere near Kangaroo Island or South Australia that's where I am). I'm glad that the space shuttle has been successful in the past thirty years despite the setbacks. You Americans have shown enterprise over the years.

  • @plusplusplusplusp thanks i just wish our president had more of a vision 4 our space program

  • Another reason why Obama sucks; he's destroyed the manned US space program.

  • It was wonderful the way Discovery drove into space & captured many valuable secrets there like Black holes etc. But did the space astronauts of Discovery discover the fact that this whole universe is not unattended. It has a creator & controller of the systems that they did or didn’t discover? Talking about the earth when heavy tornado like winds blow all the human science & developments fail to control them. We must accept this fact that all this universe has a creator & a controller.

  • @yahoovisitor I'll accept this as "fact" when you show this creator to me; you can't and you won't.

All the human science & development can't find this creator because he doesn't exist.

  • @yahoovisitor oh yes an i suppose god created the space shuttle to out of nowhere?

  • When I saw it live while they were in space, I saw small light objects in the top right side of the screen and they were moving around at break neck speed, but I haven't seen any videos on them?

  • Absolutely fantastic! Keep up the amazing work NASA! I remember this happening live. I sure wonder what NASA's plan for future space travel is before the final release of the new Ares Rocket that will take man to Mars.

Nothing like good old Space Travel in the early morning hours!

  • @yesiamawizardjonny Ares rocket was cancelled last year by Obama.

  • Russian engines - da best.

  • why does the shuttle roll on to its back?

  • @skips007 the camera is moving around ;)

  • @barrettrifles please watch the video footage again, it rolls onto its back.

    why?

  • @skips007 hey I found it on google, the answer but I could not copy the link cause YT bans links in comments so just google it and enter answer.com and there u have the answer.

  • @deanmullen10 thanks !! :-)

  • @skips007 What "it" rolls on what "it" back?

I see you aren't that literate; take a journalism course.

  • @SatchmoSings please can you point out my error, i cant find it. thanks

  • Comment removed

  • @skips007 I have to cut you some slack; English isn't your first language but just the same, you deleted the original post that I criticized.

  • @SatchmoSings sir if did remove the post you are referring to, wouldn't it be shown as having been removed?

  • @skips007 Gee, you're being rather coy about this; at this point I could make either rather bigoted and/or nationalistic remarks about our respective backgrounds but I'll refrain from this.

  • @SatchmoSings Please feel free to make your remarks.

  • @skips007 You're 23 years old; I'm more than twice your age; that would be largely unfair.

How are things in your part of the world? I'm in New York City and the temperature hit 35-39 degrees here today. Just the same, in December thru January we had a snowfall every week!

  • @skips007 When the shuttle orbits the earth, the bottom of the shuttle faces "outer space" while the top of the shuttle faces earth.

There must be a specific reason for this; in reality, it makes no difference with weightlessness.

Glad to see you've improved on your use of English pronouns.

  • I noticed that the SRBs are seperated a few seconds before the expend all their fuel. Is this because the remaining trust isn't sufficient enough to provide any additional trust? Thats all i can think of.

  • @KinaNafasi just the last few drops of useful fuel, they would be dead weight to the shuttle after, slowing it down overall :)

  • wow those poeple must be very brave to do that congulations on what you did I <3 NY

  • Shuttle should have ended back in 1990. What a waist of money, lives, and most of all progress. We could have achieved so much if we did not have the money pit known as shuttle using all NASA's resources. Thank God for all Americans and all space fans for SpaceX.

  • @ti994apc your a herb!!!! what the heck would u know, the shuttle rocks!!

  • @jsviper2 I know it cost 1.6 billion per/ launch and is the most dangerous vehicle ever created for manned flights. Every time shuttle launches between 50-150 astronauts do NOT get to go space by using a disposable system. Its the primary reason we have not gone to Mars and done the other things. The only thing the Shuttle "rocks" is the taxpayer and the lives of those killed by it.

  • @ti994apc The shuttle cost 3 billion out of the 18 billion Nasa gets. It hardly uses all of their resources.

  • @aimhigh59 Per NASA, 3 Billion almost covers 2 Shuttle launches. NASA has to pay for the Space Station, launch complexes, dmployees, etc. In contrast, in 1965 Gemini cost 20 million p/launch (** In todays money) and had 14 launches in less than 2 years. SpaceX will be able to take 7 astronauts (much safer than Shuttle) at 50 to 100 million per launch. AresV could take proposed Boeing capsule for 250 million per launch (also safer than Shuttle but not as safe as Falcon9).

  • @ti994apc That same 3 billion paid for 9 launches in 1985 plus 6/7/8 launches for many years. The 3 billion includes the employees and launch complex etc. SpaceX is talking like Nasa did yrs ago to sell a product. Its called marketing. As far as being safer, that is yet to be proved. The shuttle is 99% reliable like most rockets. We'll see if Spacex is 100% after many yrs and launches. I kind of doubt it.

  • @aimhigh59 Without out adjusting for inflation in todays money NASA has spent $145 billion or $1.3 billion per launch. SpaceX has had 2 launches of Falcon9 and they cost was they said it would be 50 million per launch. Actually Shuttle is only 98% reliable. You have 2 out 133 chance of horrific death. Don't like those odds. Falcon9 as it is now with NO escape system is much safer than Shuttle for many reasons.

  • @ti994apc Nasa has spent more than that on Shuttle. SpaceX has spent a couple hundred million on its rocket already also a lot given to them by Nasa. Your saying in everything you write that SpaceX is safer and more reliable. None of that is proven yet. Remember shuttle went 25 missions before their accident. So it will take many launches and years to prove any of that.

  • @aimhigh59 Shuttle uses "solid" rocket fuel which cannot be turned off, SRB's are one of the reasons why Werner Von Braun left NASA. Rockets that carry people should not be solid rocket fuel. Shuttle has NO "Zero" escape system. Shuttle crew ride "inline" with the main fuel tank "not good", escape is impossible. A winged shaped craft is the worse possible shape for atmospheric re-entry. Heat shield is glued on and cannot have lunar re-entry. Shuttle has no way to abort a landing.

  • @ti994apc Crew can bail out if they want in level flight so to say zero is untrue. The orbiter has worked fantastic. The solids and the tank have been the dissapointment. Both should not have happened. Bad mgt. was the cause.

  • @aimhigh59 In contrast Falcon9 can TURN OFF any of its 9 engines during flight. It cannot turn off up to 3 engines and it does not affect it reaching LEO. It will have the best escape system ever used on a manned rocket because it can be used at any time of flight and not just the first 25 seconds. The heat shied on the dragon capsule is the highest rated of any manned vehicle including Apollo. Apollo was Lunar rated, Dragon is Mars rated. Basically, it can re-enter at 40,000 mph.

  • dankje nu kan ik me spreekeurt afmaken

    !

  • I'm assuming you skipped through some of the launch. The reason I'm saying this is because that was a very early time for the separation of the external tank for the shuttle. Every other launch I've seen, the engines don't cut off and the tank isn't jettisoned until about 6 minutes after the solid rocket boosters have separated.

  • I can't imagine how it would feel to be thrust off the planet so quickly.. And how hot do the shuttle's main engines burn? They look pretty fucking hot.. Ha.

  • @dtpchilli4life They burn at around 6,000 F

Each Space Shuttle Main Engine operates at a liquid oxygen/liquid hydrogen mixture ratio of 6 to 1 to produce a sea level thrust of 179,097 kilograms (375,000 pounds) and a vacuum thrust of 213,188 (470,000 pounds). Just over 37 million horsepower

  • @milkbig550 Nazi's had "lots of guns" & (supposedly) knew how to use them. So, who's "brains" will be "on the wall"? President Obama's? History shows how "idiots" wind up. YOU rate "1,220 (Google) results". WOW. A 1st graders birthday party! Ur website? ONE comment ! "Wahl, Golleee Gee Whizz, Gomer. Ah guess we's jes gon' hafta go on out ta the cem'tary n git us new recruits." LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL (falling off my chair @ stupidity found on the Internet). LOLOLOL

  • This is beautiful, among the best work that our species has produced.

  • did you know the discovery and iss are gonna flyby over the northern u.s. and southern canada?

  • Defund NASA 100%. Let the alien believers and the Trekkies pay for it.

  • Waste of money. Not even a better tasting Tang in the last 30 years of "research" costing billions and billions. NASA Shuttle just for guilt ridden anglos as they redeem themselves by playing "Taxi" for the poor down trodden countries of the world.

Has the USA sent any Pygmies or an Eskimo or two up yet? How about North Koreans?

Space, just a void-Like the work of the Shuttle...probably could have cured cancer with all that money.....

  • @DeusVenator most technology what you use today was made possible due to spaceflights

  • @sjinouck That's BS. Most tech is from military apps. and the private sector support of.

  • @DeusVenator don't be fucking jealous just because you don't have such an awesome machine like this. I guess that's why you decided to spew all the hate. Because you nation is fucking inferior to making such triumphant machines.

  • @EpiDemic117 Yeah, especially the ones that have blown up or burned up......nice. If you consider that a success then what do you call a failure? Back to subject....better Tang yet? answer: NO.

  • wow! and the best thing is its carbon neutral!

  • Beautiful

  • Those rockets shake the ground under your feet when they take off, even 5 miles away & on the islands across bodies of water from the Cape.

When you look back at our Beautiful, Big Blue Marble, I have to wonder, why would anyone want to leave & live in outer space. If I was an alien life form, I would find a way to get to earth & stay there...the beauty & diverse landscapes, not to mention millions of life forms.

  • In Space in less than 4 minutes, thats helluva fast!

  • @Holret no. they were at 37 miles, they cut it just before the external tank separared. it takes about 8-9 minutes to get into space.

  • in soace in about 3 minutes.. That is one hell of a fast ride.

  • Another 20th century-style Phallus launch, and the talking monkey masses are amazed . . . for those in knowledge, this is an insult to our intelligence. They might as well launch a chimp in space to maintain the illusion of the actual technology at the disposal of the world elite . . .

  • @NassimHarameinVedas says the idiot who most likely knows nothing about physics... but good job on the hate in order to keep you idiotic conspiracies alive faggot..

  • @locolalo1364 - My IQ is above 160 and I know more about what You refer to as "science" than everyone You've ever met, take that to the bank and cash it and go on a vacation out of my life . . .

  • @NassimHarameinVedas alright smart guy if you are as smart as you say you are why haven't you contributed to mankind and share your propulsion system that does not require liquid fuel so we can upgrade our spacecraft to your 21st century standard.. some people can be real good liars but you sadly do not pull it off..

  • @locolalo1364 - When You begin to comprehend that You're just another talking primate indoctrinated by the mainstream paradigms, then everything else will fall into place . . . goodbye plebeian

  • @NassimHarameinVedas What good is the IQ,if there's nothing in the brain. My IQ is 126,but I'm up to 5 books a day,I can read a 275 page small print paperback in 20 minutes. It ain't how much you got but what you do with what you got.Knowledge doesn't just pop in your head, Einstein didn't enter the world talking theory. So, how did you get SCIENCE?

  • @AdverbAdjective The most important part of what I'm trying to say is MANNED space exploration is not worth the money. Space exploration in itself is. But the time, resources, and engineering it takes to put a person into space is vastly greater than to put something like Hubble up. Now its time to let machines do all the heavy lifting. They are more efficient, ergo, you get quality data faster. Society chooses to let people suffer, it is not inevitable. We have the means, but not the will.

  • cool :) but now nasa are going to ride with us on our Souyz rockets :)

  • The only gripe I have about the shuttle program is, I DIDN'T GET TO GO UP!

  • Comment removed

  • i've been to the space center on march 1 08 and i saw the endeavor on the launch pad and it was 10 days before it launched. It would've been awesome if i saw this.

  • There's nothing quite like it n the world. Such a shame to see it go ;-(

  • I don't understand why some think the space program is fake. Lots of countries sent astronauts up on the space shuttle, namely Russia. Wish someone from the KGB, would say the Americans didn't pull a fast one on them. Where did these things go once they left the launch pad? It isn't fake.

  • @banner1835 the reason why they believe it's fake is simply because they are fucking idiots that don't even believe that there is such thing as the sun our outside. they simply believe that the entire world they live in is a giant enclosed dome with a fake sky and sunlight. or something similar to that movie dark city.

  • Well the shuttle was not even cost effective at all compared to the Saturn Series, Atlas, and Titian rockets used throughout the 1960's to the early 1970's. The shuttle in my opinion was a bad investment which prevented NASA from accomplishing space exploration.

All the shuttle was meant for was to test a design concept developed by the air force to observe the practicalness of orbital bombardment with nuclear warheads within 4 minutes of commencement which would of altered deterrence.

  • Bye,bye and never fly again, thanks! We don't want any other astronaut to die in that tin can!

  • @BoxyTheSpaceDog You prefer if they die in Russian throw-away rockets?

  • @595o

I prefer they never fly period!

  • Why are they discontinuing the shuttle missions??

  • @segatman EOL

  • I like it when the shuttles blow up, POOF!!! now thats funny.

  • @stevburke Idiot !

  • it is not america. it is japan

  • @AdverbAdjective My original point was that taking care of the millions of out of work, starving, and homeless people in the US should take priority over sending men into space. If you don't believe that is worth responding to then you have obviously never been, or known anyone starving and/or homeless. Middle class is a loose distinction that has no set limits so you are correct 60k can be included. Also you don't need experience to fly a shuttle, you need training. It's mostly run by computer.

  • Go America! Hope NASA sees some new funding because I for one don't want my kids to grow up in a world without the prospect of being an astronaut! :)

  • It's truly amazing how people always discuss politics under the shuttle video and hate each other for the reasons nobody can actually define.

Just don't start WWIII or Santa won't bring you presents for Christmas.

    P.S. thumbs down-> please-> thanks. ;D

  • @DivineInterceptor Just don't start WWIII or Santa won't bring you presents for Christmas.Lol

    It is sad and funny.

  • It's amazing to see an era of spaceflight end. Years from now we'll be able to tell how we saw them fly. Outstanding work by the scientists at NASA and from around the world!

  • Thank you for posting! Can't believe I missed the last one. :'(

  • I don't know about 20,000 mph?? Thats a bold statement. Im not educated in the sciences as you claim to be, but I don't think they are traveling that fast in orbit.

  • @6Ott7 Looked it up, its 17,500

yeah, I got it slightly off, but >20,000 is nothing extraordinary for spacefight

    So shoot me ;)

  • @HeadlessJedi you were the one breakin ballz. I felt knowledgeable for a second until you fucked it up for me.

  • @TigerIPanzer Dude, more people die from cars than space shuttle launches, I bet more die from walking actually

  • NASA=SCAM

  • @Hillsillverr Your a scam, your lame. Go throw away you cellphone, TV, internet, and see how you feel. You wouldn't get to see this or anything else on youtube without NASA so take a hint and deal with it

  • @aForkandaSpoon NASA stole more money than all the bankers put together, and they only came out with technology we already knew! If anything they hide information and knowledge from us!

  • @Hillsillverr They didn't steal any money, we gave it to them. Why would they hide anything from us anyway. And duh they use technology we already have. They also work on new technology and combining technologies to make more effective devices. They actually do a lot more than space research too. They do many projects down here on earth for earth. If for some reason it starts to get way to hot on earth we need NASA or we are screwed

  • @aForkandaSpoon NASA is fake, just look at all the pictures they blur out! And they are still working with rockets, r u kidding me?

  • @Hillsillverr lol, you think NASA is fake, well I guess I can't argue because that is so stupid its not even worth my time.

  • @HillsillvAir United Airlines is fake, there are no planes.

  • @Hillsillverr Look at all the money spent to climb Mt. Everest, because thats what man dreams of doing. Some of us dream of going into space and we do by way of NASA and JPL. Look at all the money that is spent for people who dream of going to war, by way of IRAQ and AFGHANISTAN. You dream of finding fault with everything, the government doesn't have anything for that( ? ) My dream is space, its one of the cheapest programs, I pay taxes,SO LAY OFF.

  • @banner1835 ITS A FAKE SPACE PROGRAM!

  • @aForkandaSpoon He's 14 yr old don't take this kid serious, he's parents are probably christians with mental issues...

  • @Proleetness Amazing deduction. But wrong. Troll harder.

  • seems like RT only post videos that will get them view so they can get more money.

  • Those technicians of the east range took their time fixing the monitor.... hah, it was a close run thing in the end, they nearly missed their launch window XD

  • @AdverbAdjective Yes astronauts are elite. They generally have multiple Doctorates from ivy league schools, have high end military or intelligence backgrounds, and make more than 60k a year. Those are not lower or middle class credentials, ergo, elite. Not sure why you brought China into a conversation on the US wasting money on space exploration but i suspect it comes from a lack of any meaningful way to counter my original point.

  • There is no replacement for the Space Shuttle ... they plan on scuttling America in favor of the new Chinese model...

  • see ya old bird

  • Amazing!!! O.o

  • now begins the new toys

  • Is the Diaper Lady Astronaut up there?

  • this was a day in history, and to me, a sad one

  • I liked the CTFxC footage better lol

  • i'm confused is there going to be n more space travel whats going to happen to the international space station

  • @shaboopie12 Not the last, the ISS is international so other countries will still go there. It seems like NASA is dissipating which makes me sad, they have been losing funding I think and in this economy it is hard to do. I hope that they do get their funding because this is one of the most important research things we can do.

  • @aForkandaSpoon yeah i love watching space shuttle launches

  • Proud day, yet sad day, I've watched the shuttles all my life. Exciting thought to see what NASA launches next.

  • @VonAlb, as someone who should have been a part of this closing operation, i am sad to see this day, but hopeful for what yet might be

  • @VonAlb i dont think theyll be launching anytime soon anymore because obama wants to shut down the space program

  • @motocrossman93 they are building that humanoid which is cool, but yea stupid Obama wants to shut it down

  • @VonAlb the X-1 I believe its called. not 100 percent sure

  • finished arming space with all types of new weapons,...

  • @witecracker2 Conspiracy theorists are amusing.

  • @witecracker2 way to be an idiot. this was done long ago

  • Can't believe this was all yesterday. It's like a dream

  • Makes me proud and I'm not even American

  • Maybe now the US can focus on feeding people instead of shooting the elite into space. Improving the human condition with science should come before space exploration.

  • @jademinion You do realize that a lot of medical breakthroughs have come about by the experimentation in the weightless environment in space don't you? Why can't the two things come hand in hand? Not to mention the fact that due to space travel we are able to more accurately predict storms which can help save lives. Try not to be so close minded.

  • @nodnod Name one NASA medical breakthrough that has caused a significant improvement in the quality of American life as a whole due to manned space flight. We are able to predict the weather more accurately because we send satellites into space NOT because we send people there. NASA spent more than 10 billion dollars on manned spaceflight in 2010. Imagine what that money could do for people losing their homes to foreclosure and those starving on unemployment. I'm realistic, not close minded.

  • @jademinion If you don't like it ok, but throw away your TV, phone, internet, and any knowledge of the stars, sun, moon ect. O so throw out your calender because it is based on space, throw away all knowledge of days, years, months. Without looking up you are looking down and missing the whole thing. I am just fine with paying NASA

  • @aForkandaSpoon None of those things you listed rely in any way on MANNED space exploration. Which is what I was commenting on. Plus if you know anything about physics you know that TV, Phone, and Internet have very little to do with space exploration and a LOT to do with math and subatomic theory. The concept of time has been well understood before man even knew the earth was round. It's nice you have a hard on for NASA but please at least read a comment before loosing the verbal diarrhea.

  • @jademinion If you were really as great of a scientist as you make yourself out to be you wouldn't be against NASA. I could use google to make it look like I had a doctorate if I wanted.

  • @aForkandaSpoon So your response to me is "your not that smart because you don't like NASA"? I never claimed to be a scientist or have a doctorate but I do know how to find information and make my own conclusions based on facts. Which is a part of science. All those things I wrote about, I read about, and have a serious interest in. Quantum physics is the reason for many of the luxuries we have today. I was trying to inform you, not make you feel inferior. If I'm wrong, I'm open to new ideas.

  • @jademinion You probably had no idea what "math and subatomic theory" where before you needed them to make me look bad. Even though it really has little to do with the "subatomic theory" which is just the theory that there are sub-atomic particles (protons, neutrons, electrons). There plane existence has little to do with sending information. I read a book explaining Quantum physics plainly and it seems like it has very little to do with your point. It is basically just how we perceive atoms

  • @aForkandaSpoon Then you should read more on the subject if you are interested. Modern computing like smartphones and laptops would not exist without understanding the laws of electrons in a system. You don't have to believe me, but at least read more than one book about quantum physics before you make assumptions. Again, I have no reason to make you look bad as I don't know you, or care how you look. The book "How to teach Physics to your dog" is a good start if you really care to learn.

  • Awesome! Wish I was there!

  • Supersonic!

  • what broke off and when?

  • whew dude i was afraid it would be like the challenger

    *salutes*

  • Can someone tell me what all the flashing lights around the shuttle are at the 3.50 (ish) mark? There also appear to be shockwaves (in space? what?) before and after. Whats going on? Is this to do with separation of the tank or the sideways engines on the tail that are burning?

    Much appreciated :)

  • @HeadlessJedi That is a Sonic Boom. When the the craft reaches the speed of sound, it sends out a loud BOOM and you can see the distortion in the air pattern.

  • @6Ott7 Well, no it isnt. At this point, the orbiter is already in space, and is probably travelling at more than 20,000 miles per hour already . There is no air in which a shockwave to form. The shuttle breaks the sound barrier at around 0.50 I believe. Also, visible shockwaves dont always form whenever something exceeds mach 1- only if the air is humid. You can find other videos showing a shock around the shuttle

Im an aeronautical engineering student :)

Anyone else got any whats going on?

  • 7 million lbs of thrust. 0_0
