Actually, in a book I have, it's a record of most of the major battles that have occured, it said the Persian army numbered around 200,000, not a million, and that about 20,000 Persians died, yeah I messes up when I said that earlier, apologies on that.

On the other hand, if you consider the size of the armies during that time its quite a considerable number.

The thing with the Spartans is, they play down that they had thousands of allies with them, and that Spartans weren't better soldiers than the Persians, they were better Blacksmiths. Middle eastern armies were always under armoured when they invaded the ancient world.

It was a very impressive stand none the less. Showed a lot of inteligence in choosing the battlefield.

Yeah, but the book I have isn't focused on Spartans, its global, and it states there were around 7,000 Greeks in the battle, counting the Spartans. And the Spartans actually were better trained, the movie was actually very accurate in that part.

They were better conditioned. You have to remember they were the Kings bodyguard. If you look over all Spartan history they aren't that much more advanced than other powers, just more millitaristic in culture.

The Spartans are better conditioned and better disciplined, to have better discipline, you have to be better trained, otherwise the phalanx would never have worked. And yes, similar to Prussia, just more militarialistic. The fact is, Spartans truly were the best warriors on the planet, historians agree on that much but they are still human, that was the only thing, and the fact that they let pride get the better of them alot of times.
