So well done..I feel Ken and Lisa were captured living their life in a most respect way, bringing attention to such a horrible problem while still keeping the people relatable. I commend your effort and find myself thinking a lot about Lisa. I'm fortunate to never have experienced the hell that she has, but she is articulate, smart and I wish I could help her. I think if a YouTube documentary inspires people to help you've done a really, really good job.
@TheAnonredpill Part of our deal when he gave me the footage to make the film was that the raw footage would no longer live on YouTube and that he would not technically "own" the footage any longer. I don't know if he has a new channel and if he does it shouldn't have any of the raw footage from this film.
i feel so lucky that i'm from a peaceful and loving family so i have the chance to finish my post-secondary education and will never fell to some kind of life like this...
Maybe before you have more sex PIXIe, you might want to try some birth control first, Have some respect.I can bet that you have all children in care and all of them have different fathers!!! Disgusting on your part. get a grip women.
@sunset40ify First off: you know you're replying to a YouTube video that Pixie will most likely never see, right? Secondly: no one asks to be born, that would be physically impossible.
a HOLLYWOOD PRODUCER? oh god! give me a friggin break!! that dude is just as stoned as everyone else in this film! except Ken, of course! he is about the only one who seems to still have a head on his shoulders! that guy was NOT a hollywood producer or ANY kind of producer!! the only thing he produces is his own junked up imagination! anyways, i wish everyone in this video the best and hopefully Ken is able to turn his life around. he seems like a real smart guy who knows how to fend for himself
@zamboni5000 oh wow, thats too bad?! that would have been another question i had! well, hopefully he got away from all the bad stuff and maybe created a new life for himself because again, he seemed like a real smart guy. i would have loved to have met the man, but things can change in a heartbeat, i just hope his life changed for the better?!
@zamboni5000 well, thats too bad?! hopefully he has got himself together and straightened his life up?! you said you saw Lisa about a few months ago? did she say anything about Ken? if you do get any updates about these two, i would love to hear them! i just hope both of them were able to get off the streets and clean themselves up, but you never know! once youre in there, its hard to get out!!!
Danielle is so difficult to listen to without getting tense... she has such an attitude about her it makes her really harsh. im sure she is going through a lot im just sayin
What a fantastic piece of work!!! It's Jan. 2012 and have wondered what has become of those people? I've often thought about going down to East side, to experience it, but knowing myself I'd fall between the cracks and would not be found again. Your show inspires me to not do that!!! Thanks
As a welfare worker, you realize the only thing separating your world from theirs is a piece of furniture, your desk. Substance abuse and mental health services were my caseload for over a decade. Thank you for sharing your film. It's simply perfect Tio J.. Captivating and true. I loved it.
A really great look at life in the DTES. I always felt like I could have ended up there. I lived in the Westend, but found myself drawn to the area. It was the people and overall environment that pulled me in. The rawness of emotion that filled ever inch of the neighborhood was intoxicating to me.
Fantastic job, zamboni500 and K.R.T. You guys work well together despite having never really 'worked' together.
Thank you for the film and posting it here. It reminds me of where I could be and do not want to go to. I have so much empathy for them, I'm wondering if you've heard any word about how they're doing?
I knew the guy with Pixie, about 6 years ago. I'd love to meet these two and talk to them sometime. I have a few friends that used to live out there and their lives have totally changed for the better. Drugs do rob you of your life, just like how Lisa's poem described. Thanks again for the post
LOL, I know that' pretty boy', I wonder if he knows he's in this film.....I got good gossip for him if he doesn't! This was a really good little film, & point taken about the pre olympic hot dope. Word was out everywhere about it at the time, but it was all just coincidence, right? The flow of this film was great, will be recommending it to friends fo sho!
thankyou - I have been following your videos for a few years now and Ken and Lisa's story really struck me. Then you had a falling out with Ken I think then it all fell apart. Thanks for the movie - you are very talented.
@shelzo I'm not the person who originally shot this footage, he gave it all to me a few years ago and I made this film. Not sure what he's been doing but he's probably seen these comments.
@TheAnonUK I wrote and edited the film. I used to see Ken pretty often in 2010 after I finally got the courage to introduce myself and tell him I had the footage that was shot by K.R.T. Until recently. I pass his alley at least 2 times a week and I haven't seen him in several months. I saw Lisa once a few weeks back. I hope Ken is alright.
Perhaps he's joined the circque du soliel... I work in a drop-in centre for the homeless (although few of our visitors are truly homeless) here in the UK. I've met more interesting people in my years here than in any other job I've done!
This unscripted, non narrative visit with two urban dwellers is a rare gem. I was going to check out a few minutes of it, but I was too captivated by the characters, their concerns and conversations, and the dynamics of their relationship. Ken and Lisa make a natural comedian/straight-man team without intending to. KRT caught the topic of the daily struggle to support drug use, but never once used any sensationalized footage of the subjects actually using drugs. KRT: What's next on your plate?
@OsunThyruss Thanks for such a nice review of my film! K.R.T. is not a film maker and has nothing else he plans to film. In all honesty he shot this footage on a whim and had no intention of it ever being used for anything more than posting them on YouTube. He seriously gave me this footage and then asked me not to bother him any more. Last I spoke to him he was working on making an animated gif that would show naked women and Nazi imagery in quick succession.
Weird for me to put this here, but oh well. I was homeless for a while, and the people I met while I was, were about 100 times more interesting, real and honest, as anyone I've ever met. I made better friends while i was homeless than I ever had when I wasn't. It's a very interesting life. I would almost say that everyone should try it at least once in their lives. Sounds crazy, I know, but that's the truth. Just because they don't have anything, doesn't mean they don't have anything to give.
@Sigilstun I have to agree with you. While I was on the street there is a real sense of community and the people aren't held back by normal societal taboos etc. That I actually miss compared to the pretention of "regular" people. When they are upset they say it and if they disagree they"ll tell you. In a word they are much more "real." This makes for a very diverse and much more interesting life in a way but then you are struggling with some serious shit at the same time.
I watched this again recently. It is a biting social commentary and tender story about how people struggle to survive and have meaningful relationships in spite of hardship. Amazing. :) Nice job Zamboni.
A long while ago I saw the documentary "Streets of Plenty", one I assume you're already aware of since int too is about the homeless situation in Vancouver. What urked me about that film was the sheer failure in execution it had because the narrator was prancing around like a complete douchebag, missing his own point entirely. It's a film that makes you upset in all the unintended ways.
I've watched 12 minutes of your documentary so far, and I can tell you that you've nailed it.
@mark84j You've captured the REAL in the situation, and you didn't have to fabricate your own personal opinion in order to come off as an intrigued film maker. You truly care about these people, even without inserting yourself into the film. "Streets of Plenty" suffered greatly because the narrator made the movie about his own self, while at the same time you, sir, have made the film center around the true source.
Have any idea how Lisa is doing?
