I am sorry to say that I was not aware of Oscar Petersen before today; however, I am amazed at his command of the keyboard; he is truly pleased to sit down at the piano; the expression on his face says it all.
According to a review of jazz in Melbourne Australia, published in the Mebourne Age Newspaper yesterday, one of the " forward thinking " jazz pianists is Jason Moran, so I Youtubed him playing Body and Soul. I have no idea whay he was playing, but it didn't have the faintest connection with B and S. Bravo Oscar one of all time jazz heroes yet to be equalled by any other jazz pianist of this era.
It's not often you see a true master of anything, even among the best pianists. Oscar Peterson seems to exemplify every dimension of mastery and then some.
To all those youg people who love jazz, I am now 68 and was a teen during the age of rock and roll which I absolutely hated; I was in love with jazz, but little was available on the radio. How fortunate are we today to enjoy all we want on YOUTUBE. ENJOY!!!!
I had tickets to see Oscar in Ann Arbor before his stroke. The concert was cancelled and rescheduled. The then rescheduled concert was again cancelled and refunds given. One cancellation was due to illness, the other was due to a train derailment nearby Oscar's home. Anyway, I never did see him live, but am happy just to be a fan.

@sigmayacht Well, don't pay attention to the "crap" and make more music! As Luis Alberto Spinetta said once: "A más merda, más música!" ("If there is more crap, more music then!")
@mugen1237 Haha I was just joking I don't like them either. In fact I think their music is garbage. You don't even need talent today. People will buy anything these days even if it's garbage. It sells so they keep making more garbage.
@860125mwj UGH! They're commercial, not CLASSIC!,Their music is just a FAD that passes like the wind...This music is ETERNAL! It causes goose bumps all over!..This goes to your soul..the other music hits your ears and SCREECHES!...Peace via Music VIVA MARIA!
@golfr7k1 When I was a 20 year old college dropout, Oscar gave me hope in the vitality of his music. Now I am 48 I still think he is the best. There is no chance of any kind of midlife crisis right now(!) , this is timeless and I will still love it when I am 68 !
@golfr7k1 21 now, playing since I was 7. Oscar is my idle, the reason I study Jazz. Won one of his records in a pub raffle and from then on always been Mr. Peterson. Your amazing Oscar, thanks so much for your music. Whenever I feel shitty, always make it better.
And also, you swing like a motherfucker ;) RIP hero.
Unquestionably the best technical command of the instrument by anyone, ever! And this allows him to throw off outrageously complicated passages like others play "chopsticks", and lets him explore ALL the emotions of a song. He could play this ten thousand different ways, and evoke every emotion in an instant. He just looks so happy doing it!

I'm 72..working jazz sax player. Found Peterson in 1960.
Still have trouble keeping my jaw from dropping when I hear him playing.
Hope you continue to enjoy, my friends.
