  • I am sorry to say that I was not aware of Oscar Petersen before today; however, I am amazed at his command of the keyboard; he is truly pleased to sit down at the piano; the expression on his face says it all.

  • Well, I love jazz AND today's apparently modern "crap", which, after all, DID come from jazz. Oh well. -.-

  • real musicians

  • Must've learned those demisemi phrases battling with Sonny Stitt. Just to survive.

  • According to a review of jazz in Melbourne Australia, published in the Mebourne Age Newspaper yesterday, one of the " forward thinking " jazz pianists is Jason Moran, so I Youtubed him playing Body and Soul. I have no idea whay he was playing, but it didn't have the faintest connection with B and S. Bravo Oscar one of all time jazz heroes yet to be equalled by any other jazz pianist of this era.

  • tremendo, he made me fall in love with him.

  • wow, great music. where and when did they play this? please let me know if anyone knows about it. thank you

  • The 1 one unlike was just a probe whether the button works or not.

  • It's not often you see a true master of anything, even among the best pianists. Oscar Peterson seems to exemplify every dimension of mastery and then some.

  • To all those youg people who love jazz, I am now 68 and was a teen during the age of rock and roll which I absolutely hated; I was in love with jazz, but little was available on the radio. How fortunate are we today to enjoy all we want on YOUTUBE. ENJOY!!!!

  • the greatest.

  • MANNNNN!!!! How (at 1:47) do you wipe you head with your left and and do a right hand RUN.......... He was a BEAST!!!!

  • I am just awestruck every time I hear him improvise with both hands at once like that. Truly amazing.

  • waterfalls, mountain bird-songs, every kind of poetry, Communal dinners, all kinds of love in every oasis, right here.

  • I just love this!! Oscar is the dogs bullocks!!! God bless him!!

  • I had tickets to see Oscar in Ann Arbor before his stroke. The concert was cancelled and rescheduled. The then rescheduled concert was again cancelled and refunds given. One cancellation was due to illness, the other was due to a train derailment nearby Oscar's home. Anyway, I never did see him live, but am happy just to be a fan.

  • this guy has melt the piano into his heart...

  • absolutely love this trio. :)

  • Truly awesome. It takes me to an other, a different, wonderful world.

  • so nice and wonderful ~~~ i like ~

  • genius!

always so thrilling you get in touch with such a zenith of the humanity

  • this has always been my favorite kind of music. I'm sure there are a few other 20 year olds who are the same way

  • @golfr7k1 Well, in my case not 20 yet, but 19, I think it works too...

  • @OscarPetersonFan started when i was 5 :)

  • @golfr7k1 I'm one of those lucky few 20 yr olds as well, and I study Oscar 24/7!!

  • @golfr7k1 I was 12, then 13,14,15,16,17 and now I'm 18 almost 19 and have loved Jazz all the way through.

  • @sigmayacht Jazz is timeless!!

  • @OscarPetersonFan I sure hope so. Compared to the unoriginal crap today, well, you can't even compare them. Makes me sick what music has come to.

  • @sigmayacht Well, don't pay attention to the "crap" and make more music! As Luis Alberto Spinetta said once: "A más merda, más música!" ("If there is more crap, more music then!")

  • @OscarPetersonFan

Haha, nice said... I'm 20 right now and I love jazz!

  • @OscarPetersonFan Yes! Make music! We'll keep reaching for the beckoning sun!

  • @OscarPetersonFan I'm 17 and love classical jazz more than anything.

  • @mugen1237 Really? U not like Justin Bieber and Lady GAGA.

  • @860125mwj Nope.

  • @mugen1237 Haha I was just joking I don't like them either. In fact I think their music is garbage. You don't even need talent today. People will buy anything these days even if it's garbage. It sells so they keep making more garbage.

  • @860125mwj I agree. I don't like very many songs put out by "artists" today. I stick to the good old stuff. lol

  • @860125mwj UGH! They're commercial, not CLASSIC!,Their music is just a FAD that passes like the wind...This music is ETERNAL! It causes goose bumps all over!..This goes to your soul..the other music hits your ears and SCREECHES!...Peace via Music VIVA MARIA!

  • @sigmayacht So true. Jazz is perfect.

  • @sigmayacht Been the same for me (I'm 16 now)

  • I am six months old and I love jazz. I'm also playing contrabass :)

  • @golfr7k1 When I was a 20 year old college dropout, Oscar gave me hope in the vitality of his music. Now I am 48 I still think he is the best. There is no chance of any kind of midlife crisis right now(!) , this is timeless and I will still love it when I am 68 !

  • @golfr7k1 20 years old, baby! And I love this shit.

  • @golfr7k1 21 now, playing since I was 7. Oscar is my idle, the reason I study Jazz. Won one of his records in a pub raffle and from then on always been Mr. Peterson. Your amazing Oscar, thanks so much for your music. Whenever I feel shitty, always make it better.

And also, you swing like a motherfucker ;) RIP hero.

  • @golfr7k1 I'm 15 ! :)

  • @golfr7k1 i was so blessed to see him live, what a show, what a gentleman!

  • @golfr7k1

  • @golfr7k1 Utterly Fantastic to read such positive comments from young folks.

I'm 72..working jazz sax player. Found Peterson in 1960.

Still have trouble keeping my jaw from dropping when I hear him playing.

Hope you continue to enjoy, my friends.

  • absolutely beautiful. thanks for posting.

  • @mikki85 You're welcome!

  • Bloody hell! I'll remember that forever! Thank you xx

  • @Jim341046 You're welcome, Jim!

  • @JazzAce340 That's cause he really enjoys this, just like all of us!!

  • Unquestionably the best technical command of the instrument by anyone, ever! And this allows him to throw off outrageously complicated passages like others play "chopsticks", and lets him explore ALL the emotions of a song. He could play this ten thousand different ways, and evoke every emotion in an instant. He just looks so happy doing it!

  • @TomNiagraFalls I guess he looks so happy because hapiness is the emotion he feels when he plays, and when I listen to him too!!

  • @TomNiagraFalls

search up marian petrescu for the technical thing

search up oscar for the better (well, we don´t know..its my opinion) feeling

  • @TomNiagraFalls Art Tatum.

  • @TomNiagraFalls

    Marian Petrescu

    Art Tatum

  • Muchas gracias! Parece que tan loco no estoy!
