I tend to cut and wrap it. So tight it hurts my hands. I know what you mean though, I have that on a very short staff. I doubt it would be as stable over 3 or 4 feet of grip, so it rules it out for longer and thinner staffs. Have a look at my later videos and you'll see the length and thiness of my later staffs.
Do you cut the tubing into strips and wrap it or just slide it over the rod, because I just slide some 1 inch tubing over a broom handle and it fits perfectly.
They're available from most juggling shops. But don't buy them. I bought them, stripped them down, put extra weight on the ends (lead flashing) and rebuilt them.
All you need is a long piece of dowel, grip (inner tubes) and weight at the ends. Maybe a bit more inner tube around the ends for protection and sound deadening. Good luck.
Wow. I've been trying to learn contact twirling on and off for a while now. That routine was insane. Subtle too. Intricacies there that I think you have to twirl to even notice or appreciate. Well done.
Do those practice staffs hurt less than an aluminum fire staff? Because the pain of whacking myself with it is one of the main things holding me back.
No, these tend to hurt more, there's a band of lead under the innertubes that are wrapped round the ends. The only way to get over the pain is to do it more, until you give yourself such a clout that you're not gonna care about hitting yourself in minor ways any more.
You can of course bail out of a trick if it's getting out of control, no shame in that at all. Try to be as slower and smoother every time you practice. Less speed more control.
I like this. Its clean, smooth spinning. very cool. Great work.
