The best thing about the Die Hard movies are scenes like this, where they include details like needing to use blasting caps to detonate the explosives, but then immediately contradict the realism by having that one block of explosives destroy an entire level of the building in a massive fireball. Brilliant.

Guessing on the explosion;McLane pushes in detonators into the C4 and onto a monitor and chair.Detonators may be of shock wave type on a shock wave.A fall from that height would have crushed the monitor transferring an impact shock to the detonator which initiated the C4 Sort of like the primer cap behind on a bullet which set of on an impact of the firing pin. One other thing,the rocket launcher appears to be the French Mistral which is actually an anti-aircraft missile.

I was just arguing with someone about the feasibility of some of the stuff in this movie and this scene failed me. Everything else could probably happen but can anyone explain what happened here? What did the monitor and chair do? Did he just set a fuse for 1 second? I got into this argument because I prefer old action movies like Die Hard where things are left to your imagination but I failed to come up with anything on this one. Anyone got any ideas?

@toomanynamesful wen tht pc lands after a fall and just been switched on previously, it wud at least spark big enuff to set the c4 off. It reacts to heat if i'm not mistaken. the chair (with the pc plug wrapped round it and the pc monitor) was obviously to keep it altogether. and those metal pins he stuck into the c4 may been some sort of detonator.

@PBL187 C-4 does not explode with only heat. In fact, it was common practice during the Vietnam War for soldiers to ignite a small amount of C-4 on fire and use it to cook with. It needs to be detonated with a primary explosive. You can shoot C-4 with a gun, and it won't detonate.
