I love how the different versions of this tune play throughout the movie and coming closer to the conclusion. The different versions very much coherse with the romanticized fragments of memories that the various veterans are having.
But at the ending, when everything is clear and the memory is cold and present, this tune returns after a long black screen as a clear and sharp violin solo. Brilliantly removing all the dreams and made up stories that hid the truth about the massacre.
My first time watching this was in a cinema. It was full but no one said a word and EVERYONE was sitting silently until the end credits were finished. Powerful!
These two minutes transport so much emotion, so much pain, so much irritation, strength and weakness simultaneously....pure power and definitely the perfect soundtrack for this masterpiece
According to Robert Fisk in his book "The Great War for Civilisation: The Conquest of the Middle East", pp.484,488–489, Israeli defence minister at that time Ariel Sharon and Chief of Staff Rafael Eitan met with the Lebanese Phalangist militia units, inviting them to enter the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps and telling them the PLO fighters were responsible for the assassination of their leader Bashir Gemayel. This is the core information that was neglected/distorted in this movie.
