  • ooh, right on the lower cheekbone, from behind, going down! You will fel like laying down when hit on that spot. And the fact that it was a man like Ali isn't really helping when hit there! O, man, i can feel his cheekjoint swelling up with water!

  • Did Ali make a gesture, before he had beaten liston ko?

  • Comment removed

  • eh, I could take him.

  • "Or you won't see it man!" More than a legend.

  • @atomicflash500, @ceaaa22, @quidtucenam, @thezimmione, @garethac81,...

It sure doesn't look like that punch would take down Liston, but what would Liston's motive be to take a dive? If 'for the money' why not make the 'dive' more realistic? Might it have been to both collect on the 'dive money' AND to make clear that he Liston hadn't actually been beaten?

  • @ProNorden I think this punch actually was hard enough to knock down Sonny Liston. If you watch the fight you can see that Ali gave him a few combinations, making him already more vulnerable for a knockdown punch. Ali hits down, while Liston walk forward, straight into the punch, hence the name ''anchor punch''. I think, Liston did not want to get up anymore. He knew Ali would emberass him, if he got up. Maybe he wanted the controversy,so people might tink that Liston could take him.

  • he is so full of shit...fixed fight..if it was real he would have went to his corner and not acted the fool ..to much money on this to give Liston a chance to get up...but fixed..he can joke around all day.

  • @Atomicflash500 shut the fuck up fuckhead!

  • Legends measure themselves to this man,

  • It's nice when a person like me can let their guard down and appreciate personality.

    Muhammad Ali, who knew.

  • Damn, Jersey Joe Walcott was the referee? Never knew that.

  • A fighter like him only comes once in a millennium

  • Will Smith makes a good Ali in the film Ali...Speaks like him, acts like him....etc..!!

  • That punch came from Ray Robinson, but I see that Floyd Mayweather used it in his career which came in handy.

  • he is hella funny i wish i new him and he is probably the closest thing to be fast as lighting

  • Only if boxing was like this.

  • ..Awesome !!

  • 1 person is gay.

  • boxing isnt dead, everyone is just waiting for someone to come along who is half the fighter and a quarter of the showman that Ali was

  • liston didnt see the punch it was a reaction punch liston was lunging in with a jab got hit when he was off balance,he could have carried on but he knew he was gonna lose again, and ali was stood over him telling him to get back up he knew he was beat...liston says so himself in a qoute in alis autobiography by ted hauser..

  • Anyone who thinks Sonny Liston couldn't possibly get dropped froma punch as not powerful as that . . . Watch Anderson Silva vs Forrest Griffin.

If the guy is exhausted, an hurt beforehand, it doesn need to be that hard.

  • @CaptainArn

"Exhausted"? "Hurt beforehand"? It was the FIRST ROUND, and Liston didn't take a single flush shot in the fight...including the light scuffing punch that he took before diving.

Ali immediately knew Liston had dived, which is why he got so angry and demanded that Liston to get up...if he had landed a hard, potentially fight ending punch, Ali would have been off celebrating. Ali's reaction proves Liston dived as much as Liston's obviously fake "stumble" when he tried to get up.

  • @garethac81 Maybe I'm wrong, I've never seen the fight man

  • mannnn lol gotta love this guy

  • i person did'nt see it

  • the punch was out of the blue and sonny never expected it plus it hit him on the temple my source angelo dundee is that enough oh what about the light tap ali gave frazier in manilla second or first round near rope it was super fast watch it the ali in manilla was the most scariest m.ali ever got to killingsome1 1louis 2ali 3foreman 4frazier
  • @imamfollower actually he hit liston head

  • i think this is the first time i've seen him at his normal self, instead of the eccentric stage persona he meticulously maintained

  • Comment removed

  • @comedy577 You can actually see Liston's head react to the punch. Not a phantom punch at all. But was it hard enough to make a champ quit? That is another matter.

  • the moment i hit sonny listen all those people blinked... haha priceless :D

  • HAHAHA

  • I love this man!

  • @CassiusAli67 I agree, if you watch Ali vs Lyle (i think it was Ron Lyle if i remember right, anyways it was after the foreman fight,) Ali lays on the ropes for a couple rounds, and Lyle won some rounds because he just relaxed and roughed em up a bit instead of trying to knock him out. If Foreman wasn't so pissed off maybe the fight would've ended differently lol

  • @ysgvssfdh wasnt lyle ahead aswell

  • @lee1990lee Looked that way to me, didn't quite see the whole fight though.

  • HAHAAAA!!!! Hold ya eyes or you won't see it MAAAN!!!

  • Liston said he could have gotten up but he was afraid because Ali was jumping around in front of him he thought Ali would hit him as he got up. Even if Liston had gotten up, he was so demoralized from the last fight, he would have been beaten even worse than the first fight.

  • muhammad ali had so much fun

  • Ali knew Liston took a dive. You can tell by the way he was taunting him to get up.

  • Ali fought weak-chinned Floyd Patterson twice, and Floyd finished on his feet both times. Against Norton, who had arguably an even weaker chin, Ali fought him three times without stopping or dropping him. Ali WAS NOT a one punch KO artist - his record proves that beyond a doubt. And yet he was mysteriously able to KO the iron-chinned Liston was one shot...with a punch that didn't even appear to land cleanly? Sorry, but that's just not credible.

  • @garethac81 Then how did he knock out foreman so bad you stupid fuck?

Wow just because he didnt KO Norton or Patterson?!

  • @Jayoh562

Have you even SEEN Ali-Foreman? Foreman punched himself out, and was exhausted by the 8th round. It was his exhaustion - not Ali's power - that decided the match. Idiots like you shouldn't go around accusing others of being stupid.

  • @garethac81 But if you watch the fight you can hear the punch land, and the slow motion footage clearly shows the punch landing. I agree, Ali was not known as a one punch KO artist, but on occasion he did manage to drop his opponent to the canvas in a very convincing manner. e.g. his comeback fight against Oscar Bonavena in the 15th round amongst others. No one expected it and "boom" Bonavena was suddenly on the canvas. Not Ali's usual pattern but he was able to do it on occasion.

  • @garethac81 You can say what u like about records and punching power etc, but the thing is, sometimes ppl jus get lucky. A punch doesn't need to be that powerful to ko someone if they dont see it comin. Maybe Sonny dropped his eyes.

  • @CaptainArn no way no such thing as a fucking lucky punch, Sonny Liston was a tank, his armor was so thick, even hitting him would hurt someone, but the combination of speed, and sonny's exhaustion and stress in sonny's life, is what felled him from the punch ali threw.

  • @garethac81 ali had really good power before the 3 year layoff. goggle aili fight list and you will see

  • @garethac81

The punch did land my friend. But the question is just whether its force KO'd Liston.

Knowing that f=mxa in physics its plausible that Ali back then who was the fastest

at the time from heavyweights- welterweights could've generated the speed with his

mass to knock out Liston or at least knock him down. Even if Liston took a dive, it's not

as if he wouldve won the fight anyway. If you study physics and anatomy it's not

hard to realise the punch knocked down Liston.

  • Liston was "exhausted" after the knockdown? It was the 1st round!!! Come on, that's a ridiculous suggestion. As for Folley, he was over-the-hill and had already been KO'd 3 times before facing Ali...which hardly compares to Liston, who was never dropped or stopped before Ali. Folley technically wasn't a one punch KO victim, either, since Ali landed 2 right hands in quick succession to end the fight...but either way, if that's your only evidence of Ali's one punch KO power - I'm not convinced.

  • @Aurelio226

Oh, I'm "an ignorant Ali hater"? That's strange, considering I rate him as the best heavyweight of all-time, and the 2nd greatest P4P fighter of all-time. I don't need to pretend that Ali's KO of Liston was legitimate in order to appreciate Ali's greatness.

  • @Aurelio226

Name another fight in which Ali scored a one punch KO. Liston was "finished"? You need to watch the fight again...when Walcott stepped in, he was showing no signs of being hurt AT ALL. And after the knockdown, he only "collapsed" after watching Walcott for several seconds and realising that Walcott needed more time to count him out! His legs didn't even give way...he just pitched forward, as though he'd just fainted. A most UNconvincing simulation.

  • @thekingvietnam its ok.. im not into boxing ..but he is the greatest i just watched his speaches and his fights..i wish to shake his hand one day..but probobly it will never happen :(

  • @9robke123 i'm glad to see sum1's not an ignorant dick

  • What a fucking legend :)

  • are his friend hippies or something??

  • This was from the 1960's bro.

  • real qick real quick

  • amazing

  • this is classic, this is great, he is the greatest.

  • this is precious stuff

  • Beautiful lovely funny brilliant man,a gift to us all..

  • The Greatest of ALL Time

  • I agree that Sonny Liston may have thrown the fight, still it was a great punch. It wasn't the most powerful, but the angle he hit him at and the fact that it was an unexpected counter also factor in. Ali's right hand was vicious. The fact remains that Ali won and would probably have won in later rounds if it had gone that far. Besides, Ali v. Liston II wasn't the fight that defined his career, the Joe Louis series did.

  • @delwoodworks "the Joe Louis series"? You meant to say Joe Frazier series, right? I'd agree with that if you tack on Ali's defeat of George Foreman. . .that win has to go down as one of the most incredible of all time.

  • he is like the most boastful but respectable guy ever hes brags about himself but at the same time is modest

  • lol no one steps to ali .. this man hurts

  • lol haha Muhammad Ali is a joksta...but still the GREATEST

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah, go fuck yourself.

  • Douchebag

  • Ali hit Liston with many much harder punches in their first fight. He had Sonny in trouble once or twice in that match, but Liston was never close to going down. This is why, when Liston went down the rematch, Ali screamed at him to get up - Ali's reaction betrayed the fact that he was instantly suspicious of Liston going down so easily, and he expected Liston to get straight back up again.

  • agree with GARETHAC81.. ali was roaring at him 2 get up.

  • dont be a cunt

    ali knoced him.

  • If you don't think Liston dived, let's see you back that up with an intelligent argument...

...and that goes for all the other douchebags who thumbed down my original post without having the guts (or the knowledge) to write a rebuttal.

  • the minute he hit liston everyone blinked

  • Just out of curiousity, are you too stupid to have an intelligent debate, or do you just know fuck all about boxing...or both?

  • Riiiight...so having an intelligent conversation is "a waste of time", but wandering the Net giving people a "thumbs down" is a rewarding way to fill your day? *lol*

You're pathetic. AND you know nothing about boxing. And guess what? I'm not wasting any more of MY time talking to a stupid pissant like you. Happy "thumbing", moron.

  • The greatest!!!!!!

  • LOL

  • whuhuahuahua :D

    ALI!!!

  • Love it!

  • haha i laughed when he said tht being the toughest its great how he was so modest and funny.

  • he da world greatest

  • Great vid...gotta love Ali =]

  • LOL. Ali is classic!!!!

  • his wife at the time

  • lol

  • My mum

  • Ali is hilarious here. I laughed pretty hard. But seriously lots of people thought Liston dumped here but he did not. In certain positions and hitting someone in certain areas it doesnt take as much to knock someone out. Today you would have seen 3 camera angles and the one behind Ali would have shown that he hit Liston right in the temple. Although Ali wasnt known as a knockoput artist but he had plenty of power plus he had a great jaw. Tons of heart. As a kid we all idolized him.

  • ALi is theee badest mother....

  • Great vid Russian

  • ali is 2 much! ya Allah give this man a long life isa.ameen.

  • @moey78612 hehe he also gave him parkinson lololol

  • @johnny4463435 u think u gonna live forever then mate? dumb cunt lol

  • To ajdog15: Boxing isn't just about 'who punches harder.' If it was, you'd never have heard of Sugar Ray, Ali, Pernell Whitaker, and hundreds of other greats... Boxing is a science, you buffoon; and is not usually determined by power. Tyson punches harder than most anyone, but is certainly not considered alongside the list of greats mentioned above. He was a bully, and a front-runner who folded each and every time he faced someone who wasn't afraid of him.

  • Where was sonny punching??? ali's shoulder?

  • nah kinglouie89 , if you look hard you can see liston was jabbin for the chin but ali weaved back quick so it looks like listons punch was low. Also this happened so much faster really, this clip is slowed down.

  • the greatest of all time MUHAMMAD ALI.

  • Ali greatest boxer :)

  • Mentioning Kimbo in a conversation about any old school legendary fighter (including mike tyson) is a disgrace. Kimbo should not be mentioned when you speak about Legends such as Ali, frazier, foreman, liston, tyson, louis, marciano, norton, shavers, sugar ray leonard, sugar ray robinson, holyfield, lewis and many more. Kimbo ain't that great...got dropped in 14secs by a guy who was 60pounds lighter and who proved to be the better fighter.

  • ali da the greatest boxer of all tyms lol

    billythekidshah

  • damn not even kimbo could beat him

  • he is the greatest....nuf said

  • love Ali- he knew he was the best.

  • lol the greatest!!

  • 4 100s on a second got damn fast

  • vrrrrrrrrrrtttt

  • Looking at the film of the punch, there's no doubt Ali clocked him with a solid punch while Liston was unbalanced. Considering the speed of the punch, I doubt Liston had time to deliberately take a dive here. Whether or not Liston stayed down on purpose to avoid further beatings is a different argument, but this looks like a legitimate knockdown. I think Sonny just realized he wasn't going to do any better this fight than in the last one, and decided to stay down.

  • NAW! --Liston stayed down because he was seein bats playin saxophones after he got his dome popped!!!!

  • I agree liston definitely got hit did look at the way his skin folds up all of a sudden and his hands are nowhere near his body and he has not even able to lay a finger on the canvas yet.

  • There is nothing ridiculous about Liston's fall. You take that fast and hard of a blow to your temple and see what happens. You will become dizzy, you will stumble and you will fall. Physically tough has nothing to do with it. There is no muscle that can magically guard your temple and he simply couldn't get regain his balance. Liston may have decided to give up but he hated Ali way too much to have been paid off.

  • those are valid points but sonny felt that either the mafia, his old "freinds" or the black muslims ali's new friends would be very unhappy about a liston victory. ithink sonny decided to stow his hate so he could make some money and keep himself alive

  • Yeah see that sounds like the stuff from really bad made for TV movies. Why would the Nation of Islam threaten Liston? Ali beat him fair and square once before, and Ali had never lost a fight at that point. Liston wasn't much of a threat no matter how tough he was or had been at one point during his career. The point is Liston received a hard fast blow to the temple. There is no need to make up weird tales about the mafia or the NOI to explain the knockout. He lost, end of story.

  • itsgud2bdking you are full of shit, the faster the punch the more power it generates and at that speed it is no different from one of Tyson's hardest punches. Liston or not you are going down if you are hit cleanly with that and he hit him in the temple one of the worst places to be his of course he was going to stay down.

  • fast punching does not generate more power. Do you honestly think suga ray leonard was a knockout puncher? Ali admitted to tyson punching harder then him but that "phantom" puch would not knock sunny down because he got hit with a more solid shot a earlier in the round and it didn`t phase him

Ali is not a knockout puncher and never was. He told him to stand back up because he knew he took a dive.

  • Looks normal speed in slo-mo. That's how you know speed. It's obvious why bruce lee studied him.

  • "At the moment I hit Sunny, everyone blinked" Hahaha.

  • Hahaha..."oh, it's fixed....oh, that punch wouldn't do it". Yeah. I don't see anybody here volunteering to let Ali, as crippled as he is today, stick that right hand into their face the way Ali did to Liston there. The dude got stuck. Sorry about your luck, Sonny. This was two asswhippings. At least he wasn't stupid enough to try for three.

  • I'm not sure if I see it or not.

Is it the punch he throws with his right hand after taking that jab to the chest?

  • GENIUS..there will never be another.

  • What charisma, no fighter today or ever again will have such great character, intelligence and be such a showman.

  • Still The Greatest. And does anyone remember they fought 15 rounds during his day???

  • Foreign substances? You mean imported? From France, maybe?

  • fucken retard....doesnt anyone know that this fight was fixed?u think a lil bitch punch from ali could knockout a guy like sonny liston? the mafia paid him money to throw that fight...ehh stupid medagons

  • im also sure they paid Sonny Liston to put foreign substances on his gloves to blind Ali during the fight. ..Ali wins the fight hands down. Sonny Liston is a cheater.

  • nice to see someone actually has some brains...did you know the fight was fixed between the east coast mafia, (liston) and the muslims (Ali) i think Ali was about 7 to 1 against, a tempting target for any fix. Even Ali is taking the piss in this video, saying it with a pinch of salt

  • Absolutely adore this man.

  • True that. Ali only threw TWO punches in that whole two minute fight and knocked Liston out - if you know top-level boxing that is simply not possible. But that was Ali.

  • Yeah, that...When people said he had no power!

OMFG, people are stupid, speed is power...MxV people...

Mass=Hard Punches...Velocity=Fast Punches. They total to equal fast and hard equals power...Ali was fastest, greatest boxer...amen.

  • I love Muhammad Ali...

  • The greatest entertainer who was born to be champ; with hands or mouth.
