As i understand it, the central engine is cut off shortly after the maximum dynamic pressure point. Leaving all of them running would damage to rocket since the acceleration would get too high due to the lowering air pressure.
I love to watch the Apollo launches and listen to the interviews of the astronauts. These are American heroes that risked their lives to explore for us. Congrats to all those folks who worked to make that program happen, including the German scientists headed by Werner Von Braun who brought their expertise to America after the war. A great moment for America!
"In the Shadow of the Moon" is a great movie which captures this moment well.

I am always amazed why some do not believe that people explored the moon. There is a vacuum between the earth and moon, and that would seem to be ideal for fast travel there, as opposed to air or water between the two. they cite radiation as the reason preventing space travel, but science understands radiation and its effects and it is not a barrier. True believers are insane. Visiting the moon is not so difficult with the right equipment, but it sure is expensive and indeed risky
Yes, there is nothing fundamentally difficult in a trip to the moon, the only real issue is *mass*. With chemical propulsion, the useful mass fraction brought to the moon is abysmally low. It took a 3000 ton Saturn V just to land 2 men in a feeble lunar module on the surface of the moon. Mass equals cost in rocketry. If it weren't so mass inefficient, it wouldn't even be that risky - just add safety features - the same goes for airplane travel, though it has it easy compared to this.
I've seen lunatics claiming even the Saturn V's power was faked and that it had flame throwers (!) to make the engines look more powerful. The million or so people who got to see and FEEL a Saturn V launch sure would think different.
I don't know what it is about folks claiming hoaxes or fakes, maybe it makes them feel smarter than everyone else who are "dumb" enough to accept facts when presented with them.
I will have none of that crap and will delete and block everything that appears here.
Yep, he really knew how to build up the tension and excitement leading to launch. The other guy taking over from Houston after tower clear is a real anticlimax to hear.

Hi Ugowar,

I believe it's Jack King, a.k.a. the "Voice of Launch Control".

The voice you hear is Jack King.He and
Chuck Hollingshead shared the PAO duties in launch control for the Apollo moon landings.
Jack did the countdowns for Apollo 11,12,14,15
Chuck did the countdowns for Apollo 13,16,17
I was 7 years old in 1969 and watched the Apollo 11 launch on live TV
