  • she reminds me of Anne Boleyn with her quick and smart remarks

  • LMAO!! omg...did u see how holbien looked at him? like stop lying...

  • Best character in the series. Pity she didn't have her own show.

  • Comment removed

  • you can see at the end (very quickly) that Holbein is thinking something like "what a woman!" or "wow, she has guts!".

  • You Go Girl! I would so say that to her, if I was standing next to her! :)

  • Ugh! This show is SOOOO historically inaccurate! She was the ward of Queen Mary of Hungry at the time Henry tried to marry her, and it was Queen Mary who ultimately stopped Henry's plans... even though neither one of them liked the guy.

And even though she did say the "if I had two heads" line, the show missed the BEST PART of this historical moment. When Holbein showed up to paint her portrait, which would have been shown to Henry, she dressed herself and her apartment entirely in black! :D

  • I LOVE THIS SCENE. "....Alas, I only have one head...". Smart Duchess, for NOT fixing "her heart that way".

  • The place where she lives looks so nice. Loads better than Henry's.

  • I love her answer. :D She's witty and straightforward with her views -- a true blood relative of Catherine of Aragon.

  • What nerve! To ask Marie to marry him, and she was the great niece Catherine of Aragon who was so sorely treated by Henry.

  • jajajaja pos tenia razon en tener miedo a ser esposa de enrique

  • I always preferred what Marie of Guise said ""I may be a big woman, but I have very little neck" (her little tribute to Anne Boleyn), but she always seems to get over looked.

  • HELL YEAH!

  • I am reading a book for school called "Christine" and it is about her life. SO good :D And I am proud of being from her country which is Denmark ^.^

  • BAMF.

  • So beautiful and smart, she was wise not to accept Henry's offer of marriage.

  • Smart lady. I love the way she responds...with a sort of detached sarcasm - "how happy you should be if you marry Henry"..."Shall I?"

  • love the duchess

  • @seahorseofvenice no that wasnt her mom....

  • @kaybeekat4 her mom was Leonor of Austria , she was grandaughter of the Queen Juana I of castille, Katherine of Aragon`s sister...smart and strong like all the women of her family

  • Christine was born a princess of Denmark as a daughter of King Christian II of Deanmark and Queen Isabella (born a princess of Habsburg - sister of Emperor Charles V). Only 13 years old she married the old Duke Franz II Sforza of Milan and after his death she re-married Duke Francois of Bar (later Lorraine). The painting Holbein is preparing in the above clip is today in the National Gallery London. In this portrait she wears a different costume - a long black frock and a plain black hut.

  • I love how angry she is about Katherine of Aragon's death! Especially when she reminds him that Katherine was her Great Aunt!

  • What's with the Mary De Guise???

  • You go Christina!

  • Smart lady!! So great to see a woman with some common sense! LOVED how she held her ground!!

  • Yeah, it's not weird he wanted to marry his first wife's great neice at all. :P

  • @LostYesterday I know. But he had problem with dating his wives family members. And he dare accuse people of incest. His fifth wife was Anne Boleyn's cousin. But then again, royals like to keep stuff in the family back then, pretty gross.

  • You go girl! Tell it how it is!

  • WHOA...I love her...lmao. "Sorry...ummm...I only have one head and King Henry has a serious reputation of chopping off people's heads--so, I'm going to have to say NO. lol

  • Well she had Henry pegged. He wasn' t such a catch after the way he treated Katherine and then had Anne killed.

  • I agree with that & to take it a step further she more of a scouting report on Henry that anyone could have ever though of. Another way of putting was she told Henry to "TAKE HIS KINGDOM & SHOVE IT." Hey forgive me I threw a little bit of Johnny Paycheck in there what more do you want. FYI. The Johnny Paycheck bit was a country song he did 32 years ago & it was title "TAKE THIS JOB & SHOVE IT."

  • @deloufu Well some would argue that she had more power than him anyway, even if she wasn't a queen, so it's not like his offer was all that special. England, at that time, was kind of a "backwoods" country only just emerging as a global player.

  • GO,GO Duchess of Milan!

I'm glad someone back then had the guts to stand up to Henry! =)

  • Smart woman ,please tell me their is a scene were Henry is told of these lovely words lol .

  • So she was princess Mary cousin too man that girl had a powerful royal bloodline.

  • Mom laughed at that XD

  • Ninguna tonta la duquesa!

  • lmfao!!!!! I adiore her!!!!!

  • The English ambassador was arranging for Henry VIII to see the Duchess's likeness in connection with plans to marry her. Christina made no secret of her opposition to marrying the English king, who by this time had a reputation around Europe for his mistreatment of his wives. She told the English ambassador that "If I had two heads, one should be at the King of England's disposal." Christina was also the grand-niece of Catherine of Aragon and the Queen Joanna I of Spain

  • Christina of Denmark (1522 1590), was firstly Duchess-consort of Milan and then Duchess-consort of Lorraine. She was claimant to the thrones of Norway, Denmark and Sweden. She was the younger surviving daughter of Christian II of Denmark and Isabella of Austria, sister of Holy Roman Emperor Charles V. Christina was born in Nyborg in central Denmark in 1522. In 1533 she married by proxy Francesco II Sforza, Duke of Milan, who died in 1535

  • Interestig facts there, I wondering what she was on about when she said "unless the emperor commands it".

  • Mary's mother was Mary of Guise.

This scene is just superb! Truth hurts...

  • so is this mary queen of scots mother?

  • Smart woman! This is one of my favorite moments. I could have three heads and still not marry him!!!!??

  • If I had two heads, then one would be at his majesty's service. Alas, I have only one.

*(and I intend to keep it attached to my shoulders)*

Huzzah for the Duchess of Milan. :-P

  • This one of my fav scenes from season three.....very smart woman the Duchess of Milan, who in their right mind would want to be that man's wife!

  • Shazam! She told him! I'm glad someone had half a brain back then. Why any woman would've wanted to be that man's wife is beyond me. No amount of stature or money is worth having Henry for a husband!

  • If you ask me she's didn't have half a brain she had a whole brain & also the GUTS to tell Henry where to get off. Would you agree that's a fair statement?

  • Word...

  • IN YO FACE, HENRY !!!!

  • Go girl!! Lol

  • VERY smart woman

  • LOL!!! Henry just got owned!

  • ssssssssssnnnnaaaaaaaaap!!!!!! that was amazing....

  • haha she is like thanks but no thanks.

  • this is one of my fave scenes of S03! she rocks!!!

  • She's smart.

  • Yay!!!! The Duchess of Milan is Awesome:D Didn't know she was KOA great niece though:D Love the 2 heads thing.

  • That meant Henry was her great (or grand) uncle through marriage. blech.

  • yes the second was innocently put to death poor anne

  • haha i love the expression on the painters face 0:46-47 is priceless

  • She's a genius!!!!!

  • Agreed! I so wish the Duchess of Milan's role was expanded.

  • Lol. I like the Duchess of Milan. A girl who stayed level headed and kept her head on her shoulders. That was a nice way of saying hell no im not marrying that fat dude!

  • she said it right the second innocently put to death

  • She is very well spoken. I loved it when I heard that on the show. I was like, "finally a woman thats not a coward" lol (:

  • I would have loved to have seen her face off against ol' Henry-in person. Say on neutral ground somewhere where he couldn't touch her. I would have sooo told him off had I been Christina!

  • It is said that Mary de Guise said "I may be a big woman, but I have very little neck." and that the Duchess of Milan said If I had two heads, one should be at the King of Englands disposal. Regardless of who really said what, I love this scene....and the accent.

  • Exactly said. All the bios on Henry VIII that mention Marie de Guise and the Christina, the Duchess of Milan make mention of their famous one-liners lol. I just hope against hope that fat old rotting Henry heard of both remarks and was seriously ticked off lol! His ego needed a serious adjustment-HE Was no prize.

  • I wish Marie de Guise had been featured in "The Tudors" as well-it would have been great seeng two ladies of great Royal Houses dissing Old Henry and his smelly leg lol.

  • totally agree with u on that

  • Okay, okay, Y'all. I changed the title to the Duchess of Milan

  • Cristina of Denmark was a daugther of the king Christian of Denmark and Leonor of Austria ( daughter of the spanish queen Joan I ) she was niece of Catherine of Aragon..she is not Marie de Guise ...

  • Christina of Milan :)

  • I know, I know. The words are Marie de Guise's though and later in the episode when Henry and Cromwell are talking in the carriage, Cromwell informs Henry that the Duchess of Milan married the Sottish King. Marie married the Scottish King not Milan in truth. Little blooper I found.

  • Naw, Henry was asking about Madam de Longueville, which was Marie de Guise's first married name. They mentioned the Duchess of Milan a bit later.

  • The words were the Duchess of Milan's. Marie de Guise's famous line was the "I may be a big woman, but I have a little neck" bit-it was in response to Henry VIII"s claim that he needed a big woman.

  • yea, it was the duchess who said that if she had 2 heads, then she'd marry h8

  • I concur it is Christina of Denmark. Love her smart ass comments :)

  • Sophie Kennedy is outstanding in her all-too brief scene as the Duchess of Milan. Spot on, just brilliant and I would have LOVED it if they had had her meet Henry and deliver her famous line to his face. That would have been priceless.

  • It's not Marie de Guise!! It's Christina of Denmark, duchess of Milan!

It's true Henry was interrested in Marie de Guise too but that's not her! ;)

Plus listen to her accent, it's possibly italian, but not french!

  • The accent almost seemed Spanish to me.

  • Comment removed

  • Actually the Hapsburgs first ruled Austria, they married into the Spanish royal family when Philip, Duke of Burgandy married Juana of Castile in 1496. They never originated from Spain.

  • Well, her mother was Spanish, so maybe that is why. She is Christina of Denmark and her great Aunt is Katherine of Aragon. Some weird coincidence is that the man she ends up marrying was once betrothed to Anne of Cleves, whom Henry VIII married after Christina turned Henry down....

  • Actually her mother was born in Brussels, her mother's mother was Spanish (Juana of Castile).

  • Yeah I don't get it either. The woman was born in Denmark, then when she married the first time she moved to Italy, and she winds up with a Spanish accent? Wierd.

  • at that time Spain and Italy were sort of conjoined so a lot of them were spanish and italian, and they both probably spoke both fluently. They are just similar cultures and I am sure she was italian as well as spanish seeing as she states that Catherine of Aragon is her great aunt
