Wow, so that's how it looks in the arcade! Looks really good, but I've only played the SMS port of this.
You know, maybe it's just me, but it looks like it could have been made with Sega Genesis or probably the 32X. Great look and game anyway, Imma try that soon.
Genesis was probably just a little too weak to port Rastan perfectly, but the 32X and Saturn would have done it. Other games from Rastan's era like Space Harrier, OutRun, After Burner were all emulated near arcade perfect on the Saturn. The 32x had After Burner and Space Harrier, and like the Saturn ports, were pretty much identicle tot he arcade.
Yeah I've noticed. Space Harrier and After Burner were my classic favorites, but they were made on the Genesis and the SMS as well. My Hero was another one from the arcade. I haven't played it but I have it on SMS, although some changes were made to the port.
Was there an arcade game that was just like Space Harrier, but with 2 players? I think it might have been called something else....
Unfortunately, the old aracde games do look much better on the old arcade monitors. This is due to arcade monitors having lower resolution compared to computer monitors.
The old game's graphics are hard and pixelized looking on computer monitors.
They are the originals... same roms, same graphics, same sounds, same (emulated) hardware. You're probably remembering that these games looked better than they actually did.
I fear you're probably right. I've come to think it's a matter of the arcade machines' lower resolution that softened it up a bit, making it look less pixelated. How well does play-control translate? I know when I've played some rereleased games for newer gen systems, the control can seem very, mmm... disconnected?
I haven't seen this game for ages, let alone thought about it. When we would go to the mall, I would always beg my mom to let me stay in the arcade and I would play this game.
Never got past the first level though. It's crazy that I still remember the music like I was in the arcade yesterday.
Man! Its been like 20 years since I saw this game. I remember playing this game once in the arcades with my brother back then. Though I never got to play it as much as he did. The music in the first stage is still pretty cool even now. And that howiling-like sound affect in the music gives it that horror feel to it. I can imagine a game like this but with Conan.

Man I remember I used to get all Kabuki'ed out when that heart started going crazy :(
Man seeing this makes me want to go on a marathon of these kind of games. Many a quarter were spent on this, Black Tiger and Rygar.
Thanks for the upload.

You're also watching a youtube video, so naturally the video quality takes a hit.
The controls are fine in MAME. helps if you buy a controller.
Try downloading it. Look for a MAME torrent on google.
