I disagree. Everyone has their own artistic expression. While I think I understand what you were thinking, I think the outcome was quite intriguing. I think the smudging added a certain depth of feel. Who's to say its water that the apple is sitting on? Couldn't it be Silk :P

here are some of the tools he used:Magic Wand extracts apple,Clouds+Ocean Ripple+Plastic Wrap Filters for water,Perspective and Free Transform,Hue-Saturation to change the color,duplicate the apple layer, add Motion Blur to the bottom copy of the apple,Free Transform the reflection,Ripple filter for the reflection,Opacity Change for the reflection,black background layer,soft brush eraser.

very easy, takes some practice
