Harry Reid talks about the African-American dialect yet he says nothing negative about Southern Congressmen and Senator's dialect. He's says nothing about George Bush Texan dialect. Some people may not like the way George Bush speaks but they're not going to come and lambaste him for his southern dialect. This "Negro" dialect shows me that Harry Reid likes black people that ape the mannerisms, tastes, and speech of whites. It appears you have to "act white" in order to succeed in this country.

Why do white people call their own children black when mixed children are 50% black and 50% white? I think it's an implicite form of rejection of their own blood when it is mixed with a color that they look down on as a dirt. So, when a white person calls Obama Black, for me it is just as much racist as it is when the use the "n" word. Black people on the other hand don't reject their seed and accept everybody as long as it is evident that a person has some percentage of "black blood".

@TheAutiger13 Yes, but the majority of white folks are not intimidated when they hear Eminem rap simply because he's white. This dude rapes about killing and burying his mother yet he sells tons of records and no one complains about it. However, when a black person raps about the guns and drugs that he's seen in his neighborhood, while growing up, he's labeled as a troublemaker and used as a scapegoat for the only reason why there's so much crime.

While I disagree with Reid's use of 'Negro', for Dyson to say he does not know what African American dialect (read: vernacular) is is outrageous. It various from region to region, of course, but there is such a thing as Black vernacular just like there is Appalachian vernacular.

If....IF you are a black person who's offended by the statement Rush Limbaugh made about Donovan McNabb, which like Harry Reid's statement was statement of fact, you can find reason I believe you could be offended around the 3:56 mark. Judge the statement based on whether it's factual.If it is, I tend to give the person the benefit of the doubt. It is racist by the strict definition & certainly by the standard to which those on the right are held. Sometimes the truth isn't politically correct

Can anyone tell me why Blacks should be offended by Reid's comments? Reid wasn't being offensive to Blacks he was actually saying whites are too racist to elect a dark skinned Black person who speaks ebonics. Actually most Blacks would actually agree with Reid. Another point....I am a Black man and I have no problem with the word Negro.

Negro is what We (I'm black too) were called after nigger was no longer PC. After negro we were colored. The closest to what we are that blacks go by is African American. Anything less than that is derogatory as what a people call themselves should link them to a land mass. There is no negroland, coloredland, or blackland. What he said was offensive when compared to history. Africans built and ran the worlds first Universities..

Greeks and Romans came to Africa to learn the foundation of what they would later call their own culture (read Herodotus, Hippocrates, Aristotle, Plato, Alexander the Great, Cheikh Anta Diop, Gerald Massey, etc) We were scholars long before colleges so in all honesty what we consider "talking like whites" would be a reflection of what our ancestors taught those who said Africans could not be educated.

Once again, if you look at the demographics of the US there are more whites living in poverty and on welfare than blacks. There are more uneducated whites than blacks in America. So if you want to get technical what Reid considers "negro dialect" would be "white dialect" given the above AND what many African Americans hold to in terms of reaction to situations stems from slavery which whites were the masters in.
