  • Wow, remember back when Idlewild used to be awesome? Before they turned into a crap REM and released songs like 'love steals us from loneliness'?

  • @davidfgranger Idlewild have always been a fucking amazing band. They never produced one bad album. One of the most underrated bands from the UK.

  • is it me or does the video version sound different to the one on the album?

  • @NeglectedField I think the mix is different, more guitar and more compression maybe?

  • I laugh at your conversational skills..... or lack of........... talking, smoking, smoking, talking

  • wow i can't wait to see them on sunday!

  • brilliant

  • Music tech? Haha. When it comes to music, you either have it or you don't im afraid kids. You can't learn talent.

  • @eXPerienceyeah Get off your high horse bro, nobody likes a cocky prick... I doubt you are as "talented" as you think you are.

  • @eXPerienceyeah All a talent is is something that someone enjoys doing to the extent where they spend an excess amount of time training that skill, primarily at a young age.

If you take a piano master, make a clone of him or her and don't introduce the clone to a piano until 20 years later, they're not going to be any good at it. Talent is learnt.

  • @eXPerienceyeah I feel the need to reply to floyd mayweather jnr here. Ooooh wait. No i dont. Peace kiddo

  • @eXPerienceyeah

Mate, are you feeling alright? Music Tech is all about the technological side of Music ie. recording, effects, waves etc.

You don't talent to work with that shit...

    SO UP YOURS DUMBASS! :D:D:D

  • This is in exams? Count yourselves lucky kids! Top album in its day. Still is. Glad people are haring it that probably wouldnt. I was your age or younger when this came out.

  • @lemonofjustice When I saw it I cried with joy :').

  • LOL at everyone talking about their music tech exam xD. ill be honest... thats the reason i know the song too...

  • Even though the music tech had epicley great songs such as Yes's Roundabout and bowie's Space Oddity this was still pretty cool

  • Am i the only person who has a great music tech teacher.

  • @coneheadification No! My music tech teach is an absolute LEGEND :P Did you get lucky too?

  • LOl everyone in the tech exam has come here lol.

  • Spent the last half an hour of my music exam with this song on repeat! good times..

  • I love how everyone's like 'I found this band because of the Music Tech exam' when you where supposed to look them up before the exam. :P

    Great song and band though.

  • @istillfuckingseeyou We didn't even get coursebook! Along with the fact the computers we TRIED to do our coursework on broke half the time :(

  • music tech exam i actually really liked this song and the bowie one ^^ it's pretty cool that you get to like a song from an exam :D

  • Exams? ._. I only came on here because I heard this song in my dads car and liked it.... Turns out he knew the bassist :D

  • okay, so the first thing i did when my music tech exam finish was go home and learn this on guitar, and probably use it for my A2 recording!

  • Wait, everyone failed because of that 6 mark question?

  • anyone else loved that the pixies came up?!

  • I was listening to this for ages, without realiseing everyone else had started the exam! Had a little panic but finished with 40 minutes left to spare... Which turns into 40 minutes to listen to this <3

  • 2:35 = Shiny Mudkipz

  • was sat in the exam room ROCKING THE FUCK OUT to this!

  • I didnt even do the exam, i just kept playing this track instead

  • I pretty much had this song on repeat for the last half an hour of that exam, was heaven!

  • @ttc01234 Haha same here :D!

  • failed that exam, i revised everything that didnt come up.... on the last question i just wrote about morrissey cos of the suede bit.. lol SUCKS.... I should have revised more...

  • this was a fucking good question - loved having to relate to the smiths!

  • my computer decided to turn off half way through the exam- :( i had to remember this song though- pure class <3

  • I fucked up on the last question, I didn't revise over the styles of the artists. :(

However, I kept listening to this song at the end, the examiners probably thought I was crazy.

  • @djsam909 i revised factory records, rough trade and pulp. i bluffed the last question

  • lmao the exam was piss easy and i dont listen to any indie / soul...?

  • @JackR2r Yeah exactly.

  • Yeah, failed the exam.

  • Music Tech exam was a bitch eh?

  • for the people who did the music tech exam... did anyone know who the fuck Suede and Pixies were?

  • @DJSam909 You ignorant boy. 1) You should just know that, and 2) They were part of the specified genre studies.

Also this track is fucking shit. The worst example of indie music.

  • @MikeWoolridge94 I'm not ignorant! I revised, Happy Mondays, The Smiths and Joy Division for Indie Rock. Those two never came up in my notes

  • @DJSam909 No. fucking. idea.

  • @DJSam909 HOW CAN YOU NOT KNOW PIXIES OR SUEDE?!? but that was a bitch of a question :P

  • @StevoWithHisMusic i had no clue on that one. put some random stuff. thereagain, i didnt revise the styles lol. My fault.

  • @DJSam909 I had no idea! I just guessed! Fingers crossed that a miracle happens and I get it right! XD

  • @DJSam909 I had no idea either haha, we had a shite teacher who decided that she didn't want to teach us or tell us what to go over xD

I found the exam fine though, last question was a bitch though haha

  • AS Music Tech Brought Me Here.

  • Comment removed

  • music tech exam was awful but i had this on repeat after having 20 minutes to spare at the end, so good

  • Thumbs up if you're going to fail music tech. But at least you found this song.

  • @qwaz13 this the first one and the soul one were great the rest were kak

  • when i argue i see shit, when u argue u eat shit

  • This song was pure tank on the Music tech exam, I love how there is only one dislike

  • @shamonehehehe I spent too long revising soul music and not enough time on indie :(

  • @MrJackrocks That Indie question was really hard. The coursebook mentioned nothing about those bands. Atleast the soul question was easy. That shit was straight from the book :L

  • Best song on the AS Music Tech exam. Finished with an hour left and just listened to the CD over and over. Great songs. :D

  • @FlamingFuryX

    SAME!!!

  • Year 12 music tech exam!

  • @Mp5Drummer was soo happy when this came up!

  • @Mp5Drummer WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • @Mp5Drummer haha yesssss! "How is this song similar to the smiths" ;)

  • @Mp5Drummer i have been watching this since i got home from the exam. awesome song. Im doing the resit btw, im A2.

  • @Mp5Drummer wow i wish i was a year older :L

  • Joe buns is a bender

  • Sadly, Idlewild seem to have become a sad folk ensemble.

  • Roddy Woomble - Liverpool Kazimier, Sunday 6th February

Lau - Liverpool Kazimier, Friday 11th March

Doug Stanhope - Liverpool St George's Hall, Wednesday 6th April

Turin Brakes - Liverpool Kazimier, Saturday 9th April

  • i recently found a tape with a live version of this on that i made from the days when used to record the evening session off radio one. that was basically 10 years ago! makes me feel 13 again. so much nostalgia. those were the days eh!?

  • I miss the days when this song came out. So many memories. Sigh.

  • No'1 for Xmas - saw them once at Dingwalls - great stuff

  • Idlewild are frae somewhere Hielan.

  • Syd barret makes me laugh

  • hmmmm...would be better if bob was in the video since he was originally on the track....but apparently they enjoy screwing him outta his royalities!

  • this is, simply fucking good music

  • This song is soo fucking good!

It proper reminds me of being a teenager and going to local gigs on the weekend and getting stoned with my mates.

  • Holy shit!! I forgot about this tune.

OMG I love it too much. I am almost in tears!!!!

  • Their best song by far in my opinion :)

  • saw these once at Dingwalls - they were excellent -

  • My band were recording at Chem19 in Blantyre, probably back in March and Idlewild were there putting the finishing touches to their new album. It sounded VERY folk driven. I said to Roddy that I liked the old stuff. He looked like he wanted to kill me! I miss old Idlewild.

  • Idlewild have been going for over ten years and Woomble and jones are either in there late twentys or early thirties. Like everyone else at this age, they mature and grow, and with that so will there music. I love the old Idlewild too but do you expect them to play songs like this when they are in their 30s or 40s even? I dont think so. And they dont really want to either i think. They have matured and so should their fans along side them. Their new album is great, legends

  • @Noeladishi What you say is true, but sure 100 Broken Windows was enough of a mature sound to carry into their 30s? The newer stuff is just boring, even when compared to The Remote Part.

  • @Quinnpie Lol too funny!! XO

  • amazing love idlewild, most underated.

  • Lament the day Idlewild started writing their new material. What a band they were.

  • amen to that man! what happened?

  • I like this song

  • It's easy these days to forget what a great band Idlewild once were and this song is a classic. Very '90s video too.

  • Idlewild is slightly better than biffy. Mostly because of strong lyrical side. But both are extremely awesome.

hope is important is my number 1 album and blackened sky is my number 4 album of all time so I love them both.

  • 100 broken windows and infinity land are both in my top 10 :)

  • one of my favs.. luv singing along to the end of this song

  • I really like Idlewild, but better than Biffy? Easy there tiger

  • I think they definitely are. Their new album is great.

  • Hahaha i've just read a review from the Hope is Important show at King Tuts:

"These were Idlewild's early days, remember, when they were like a library assistant version of Biffy Clyro."

Haha brilliant. Much better than Biffy however.

  • Comment removed

  • @floozysuzie20 no offence but what the fuck is a biffi clyro

  • @otanalin101 its a band that is ever so slightly more famous than idlewild in the current climate.

  • @floozysuzie20 i loved idlewild when they first came out, however, i love biffy more lol the sounds good with both but biffy has the ooooooooh factor when you listen to it xxx

  • in my opinion the english version is so much better, it sounds too cluttered and messy with the piano in the verse; and its like 40 seconds longer than this. love idlewild anyway =]

  • I actually find it slightly disappointing listening to the album version cos I think the piano in the verse totally enhances the song, in my opinion obviously.

  • I was very surprised to hear the acoustic version of the song and how it changed. But Roddy is still great! I love his voice.

  • they were so good when they started

    so very good

  • im with you there, same with snow patrol

  • Love, love, love this song.

  • fucking brilliant song....and the best band from Scotland and probably the UK. Shame they are so underated

  • Have to agree sergeanfan. as an English man I totally agree. So so good.

  • If you ever travel from Glasgow to Edinburgh on a Bus? then this Video always makes sense to Me!!!!

  • i prefer the acoustic version

  • that doesnt sound like roddy woomble.wtf?

  • well it is, all the old stuff sounds like this

  • This ROCKS!!

I've loved this 4 a long time, i love how they sing when i argue i see shapes at 2 different speeds

  • i would have loved to have had youtube ten years ago when this came out.. i adored this song and never saw the video till recently.

I'm on a right nostalgia kick with idlewild

  • great tune, great band, nuff said

  • awesome tune! what are those things in the water at 2.34?

  • Fuckin tune!

  • Pero de donde sonal final?porque dicen estos monos que son sudamericanos?

  • Why don't English people understand that most Scottish people only refer to themselves as Scottish and don't like to be classed as British!!!

  • why cant we all just get along.. i live in northumberland and i liev to be classed as human. fuck boundaries

  • Good luck with that, mate. There are only sheep in Northumberland.

  • not true. there's rain and stuff

  • I'm Scottish and proud!!!

    You're a wanker!!!

  • El band Boliviano clandestino ;)

Best song they ever did, but disappointint live. Good record though, thanks for posting!

  • A young qatari band that shows great promise

  • the singer look like emir kusturika serbian also

  • I love this amazing serbian band!

  • serbian? erm

  • A band that Venezuela can be proud of!

  • LOL why do people think Idlewild are from Serbia/venezuela LOL?

    they're from Scotland you idiots...lol

  • Wow, you guys all need to chill a little. Ok, agreed. Idlewild are Scottish. They are also British. They are also European. They are also human.

    Where does it end?

I'm from Southend-on-Sea. In Essex. In England. In Britain. In Europe. Etc...

    Really...

  • this band rule

  • I don't understand how anything else good can come out of Carnoustie besides myself.

  • Saw this band at a club paid $7 , my friend in santa rosa california paid $150 a ticket the week before. Met the band and the bit, awesome guys. Completely blew the roof of of this club.

  • my god what a tune!!!! such an under-rated band!!! go on idlewild!!!

  • wondeful to hear this again, was searching for all my old favourites and found this. Forgotten how good it was, thanks for posting

  • Idlewild... something Britain can be truly proud of.

  • Scotland is british. Idlewild contain an english band member. No1 in england/scotland is scottish or english REALLY..if you look into it..

  • Yeah quite right man! There no such thing as Britain as a nation just a state with three and a quater nations in it! Class band Scotland can be proud of them!!!

  • I think you'll find that technically there is no such thing as Scotland as a nation, merely a principality. You don't have a Scottish passport do you? No, because Scotland is not an internationally recognised state, nor england, nor Wales, nor Northern Ireland outside of of sport. whether you like it or not, you are British, just like me. And also, I think you'll find that at least one of Idlewilds members over the years was / is in fact ENGLISH!!! Stuff that in your haggis and eat it.

  • So now you're bringing steriotypes into it?

    How big.

Idlewild are primarily a Scottish band. Who cares if Scotland is a constituent country?

You English seem to take great delight in our inability to qualify for football competitions, but when it's something like music, or film, then you claim rights to it as well?

Biffy Clyro are the same. Scottish.

    Croatia FTW

  • I was just mirroring the hostility aimed towards my innocently placed "British" comment, and it's true. Idlewild are still British. calm down for christ sake. I'm not trying to "claim" idlewild either for the English, was actually just trying to emphasise how great Idlewild are, compared to a lot of the dross (Razorlight, Doves, et al) that's out there. that ok?!!

  • I'm sure if you check their passports it says "British" on it. But whatever, at the end of the day they are just an amazing band, "Scottish" or "British". What's the big deal? Running out out of "Scottish" things to feel proud of? Sounds like all the anti-British Scots out their have some kind of inferiority complex to me. Celtic fans perchance? Racists.

  • its only a word tho isnt it? plenty scottish things that i am so proud of. no not a celtic fan either, if u knew n e thing u wd no that celtic consider themselves irish not scottish.

  • I know plenty about Celtic FC thankyou very much and in my experience Celtic fans are Scottish people who wish they were irish. controversial... but true.

  • Yeah we're running out of Scottish things to be proud of.

After all, we've only invented TV, antibiotics, antiseptics, anaesthetics, the steam engine, the telephone, radar, artificial diamonds, adhesive postage stamps, golf, whisky amongst other things. We also founded the Bank of England. The English only invented "making a dick of yourself whilst holidaying abroad".

  • "artificial diamonds, adhesive postage stamps"

well done, well done... life changing!

how about The Kranky's and The Proclaimers? Thank you Scotland for so much... thank you.

  • Artificial diamonds are one of the most promising fields of research at the moment as due to their inert properties allow implantation in the body without the natural immune system causing rejection to foreign matter. So whilst that might not sounds like much to you, cock bag, it's actually pretty important.

As for the Krankys and The Proclaimers. Yer Maw's a Kranky! The Proclaimers could afford to buy and sell your sorry arse so last laugh's on them.

  • damn man. Scotlands got nothing!

    [/sarcasm]

  • @leicsbred Ah yes, just like anything good from Scotland is "British". When Andy Murray wins he is "British" and when he loses he is Scottish. Idlewild are by far the best SCOTTISH band ever in my opinion.

  • @Doffaldinho Nice chip on your shoulder there I see.

  • Ya era hora de que alguien subiera este video.

    Enormes como siempre
