HAHA... oh wow... First off, I didn't know that Bob Dylan song existed back then. Secondly, knowing that John called Yoko "mother" puts this song into context. And thirdly, it's no fun being an atheist. Like John, I can't bring myself to believe ridiculous things. But there is wisdom in religion, as in Dylan's song. Sometimes, serving others is serving yourself.
@drrobertoboogie97 This song was written by John in response to Dylan's Serve Somebody which appeared on his 1979 album Slow Train Running and he received a grammy for it in 1980.
Clean lyrics? If you consider the other version bad, this is even worse in some ways. I also prefer the other version musically. No, it's not as polished or melodic, but I think the lyric works better presented cut-loose rant. I like some of the added lyrics here, but the whole vibe is just clearer and more gripping on the other. Slowing it down particularly saps out the energy and vitality. I know know the other version wasn't very melodic, but I think 'freeform' works better in this case.
Fantastic version, great quality! He's obviously finally settled on a melody on this version. I love the way he stick's it to The (religulous) Man (christened Dylan): Believe whatever you want, but don't use it to justify any of your actions.. The Responsibility is Entirely Your Own. I dig Dylan's interest for gospel as a genre though, 'cause it can be secular as well: just check out Tender by Blur. Pax.
@ nudnek - that's exactly the point of the Dylan song - "it may be the devil, it may be the lord but you're gonna serve somebody" i.e. ALL of your actions are either for good or bad, there is no middle ground. John was fresh out of material so he did what he did best since the end of the Beatles, mock somebody who wasn't lol
like the acoustic guitar version better

@Yoshi5020 How is being atheist no fun? I'm an atheist myself and I'm having a thousand times more fun than I ever had.
