Ugh. Air travel has become such a horrible experience. Well done to the captain though for those great updates and being able to add a little humour to it.
OMG If I was on that flight? I get off then rent a hotel room for the night then come back in the morning and still see all of you sitting there, But the pilot was cool.
I was once on a AA flight from St. Louis to San Fran in a massive storm only to be told by the captain to hold as he was putting his foot down! Classic love American pilots! Oh and I as flying in from London
@rcacad Depends on what type of plane you are certified to fly. If you fly a large jumbo jet then yeah you will see more early morning flights. Most smaller planes fly through out the day.
@tierren lol ahh hell you guys can just make the flight funner like your fending off allein ships haha cuz you dont have passengers. lol jk But in all serouiness i wanna be an airline pilot. Or I would love to fly for Fed Ex preferably for an Airline such as delta. IM 17 btw :)
I hate when people get pissed of when their flight gets cancelled and the they blame the airline like there is anything anyone can do about it. Would they rather fly in unsafe conditions?
i bet theyd also blame the airline if they didnt cancell the flight and it took off in poor conditions and ended up in 30 million little pieces on the side of a mountain becuase the pilot couldnt see shit
He could have summed that all up with "We are stuck because the airport is closed... Stay situated until 6p when they open the airport and we will leave, good day"
now that's how a captain should do his job. I also noticed that the person in front of you had a drink cup. good job to the captain and crew keeping the passengers first and pulling Continental and pretty much ignoring the passengers.
Actually the APU isn't just a ground power generator. It's spooled up anytime the plane loses main electrical power. There is a turbine that deploys from the belly of the plane that produces enough electrical power for basic instrument power and lighting.
hey, i recognize the flight attendants, its a san francisco crew, this is a 757, the pilots are prob based in minneapolis, its so nice when the pilots make the announcements like this. its so nice to see a flight deck crew that enjoys their job and show concern for the passengers. keep in mind, that the crew is not being paid till the plane leaves the gate. so its nice that they even show their faces during a ground holding.
Well at least they did not keep you on the taxiway for this delay. I would rather eat something quickly in the airport and go back to the gate. Did they bring pizza or catering after the cancelattion?
was this on March 21st 2008, because I was flying out to florida for spring break, and i was scheduled to fly out of milwaukee, but they airport was closed cuz of the 15 inches of snow, so i got a flight out of O'Hare on United, then O'Hare closed, so i ended up in Midway on Southwest Airlines.
lol... i sortof had to do this, on CO62 on a boeing 752 kiah-kewr because at KEWR our assigned gate was delayed because of a mechanical issues, and we had to wait about an hour or 2 on the tarmac wating for that aircraft to disembark
APU is used when the engines are off. Helps keep the lights on and the AC running. Plus other stuff of course but real pilots would have to give us the details.
Does pretty much everything you've mentioned. Also provides power to the starter motors for the engines and can power hydraulic pumps when the main engines are off...shit like that...
The APU is the Auxillary Power Unit. It is used primarily to provide pnumatic power to start the engines. Pnumatic power is air power, and the engines, in order to start and combust, need to be turning to compress and ignite the fuel and sustain the jet combustion. So the APU essentially blows lots of air into the engines. Now because the APU is an engine itself, they have thrown generators on it and it can function as a backup power supply as well, providing power when engines arent turning
The flight attendant is conscientious. But He's a little long winded. I don't think the pax really care about when to push back and when to taxi and stuff. Just tell them when they can get underway should be enough.
thanks to the APU (Auxiliary Power Unit), all those functions can function without the engines running (it's basically a little engine at the back of the airplane that provides electrical and pneumatic power to run the heating, cooling, and ventilation systems prior to starting the main engines.
Captain wants to "blastoff"? wow I guess this guy is a wanna be Astronaut maybe he should have been talking to NASA mission control instead of the airline dispatcher
Airlines in the US seem to be a lot better at communicating situations like this. Have been on a number of airlines in Europe and the Pacific where the extent of their announcement is just "We apologise for the delay". It's always good to be kept informed, makes you less annoyed and anxious about the wait.
He just doesn't shut up
