  • He just doesn't shut up

  • Ugh. Air travel has become such a horrible experience. Well done to the captain though for those great updates and being able to add a little humour to it.

  • OMG... sounds like Brian from Family Guy!

  • this is an example of how communication can help in a bad situation

  • yeah I live in Milwaukee. I hate the snow though...

  • what a chatty-cathy!

  • He is such a lovey man! :)

  • nice that he is actually explaining what the problem is, and how he is trying to fix it. he seems really nice

  • why can't all captains care like this?

  • Very nice video. The Captain, he's based at JFK now flying for Delta since the merge.

  • No,thats too much blah blah blah..overkill.Captains dont need to do all this. The FA can sing it all in rap.

  • No,thats too much blah blah blah..overkill.Captains dont need to do all this.

  • So your one of the suckers that stayed on the plane?

  • OMG If I was on that flight? I get off then rent a hotel room for the night then come back in the morning and still see all of you sitting there, But the pilot was cool.

  • 1:54 did he say "gayboy"???

  • @Don123q GAMEBOY NOT GAYBOY

  • @TheWebFix lol ya I know it was just a joke

  • Why would anyone be in a hurry to get to Milwaukee? Just kidding.

  • 757?

  • one in a million....one in a million.

  • What an awesome captain!

  • gameboys?? haha oldschool

  • gameboy?? is this in the 80's

  • "You're the reason we're here, not the reverse." This guy has had some customer service training. Excellent.

  • wat airline

  • NWA.

  • gameboys haha!!

  • Good customer service.

  • what airline were you on

  • I think sometimes you can talk to the passengers /too/ much...

  • why was the flight cancclled

  • Big snow storm at MKE.

  • blast off lol

  • i like this pilot

  • @1955porsche this guy is the best.

  • im going to attend embry riddle in daytona to be a pilot i just want to develop a good sense of humor

  • good luck, wish I could afford that

  • that sucks, that u had to be there all day, get excited to leave, then in the end flight was cancelled ):

  • brilliantttt

  • I was once on a AA flight from St. Louis to San Fran in a massive storm only to be told by the captain to hold as he was putting his foot down! Classic love American pilots! Oh and I as flying in from London

  • he's very professional. very nice!

  • "Blast off" is an accurate term on any jetliner, especially a 757-200! Whoo!

  • im Going on Etihad on Christmas day..

    Flying from manchester..

Not much hope for Departuring on time because of the bloody snow ! :(

But oh well we'l have too see what will happen :)

  • I am a pilot for FedEx, thank god I do not have to keep people calm ! Great job to those pilots.

  • is it tru most mail pilots fly vampire hours?

  • @rcacad Depends on what type of plane you are certified to fly. If you fly a large jumbo jet then yeah you will see more early morning flights. Most smaller planes fly through out the day.

  • @tierren thats really cool

im 14 and training to be a pilot

  • @tierren lol ahh hell you guys can just make the flight funner like your fending off allein ships haha cuz you dont have passengers. lol jk But in all serouiness i wanna be an airline pilot. Or I would love to fly for Fed Ex preferably for an Airline such as delta. IM 17 btw :)

  • LOL

  • Haha! I like the down to earth approach used by American pilots.

  • Captain: I have a Wolfgang Puck salad, if you'd like some you're more than welcome to share it with me LOL

  • Lol.......

  • hahaha u guys got owned

  • And proud to say, that is Northwest Airlines. They will be missed!!

  • thats a captain , thats a service !

  • I hate when people get pissed of when their flight gets cancelled and the they blame the airline like there is anything anyone can do about it. Would they rather fly in unsafe conditions?

  • i bet theyd also blame the airline if they didnt cancell the flight and it took off in poor conditions and ended up in 30 million little pieces on the side of a mountain becuase the pilot couldnt see shit

  • He could have summed that all up with "We are stuck because the airport is closed... Stay situated until 6p when they open the airport and we will leave, good day"

  • But that is boring D:

  • now that's how a captain should do his job. I also noticed that the person in front of you had a drink cup. good job to the captain and crew keeping the passengers first and pulling Continental and pretty much ignoring the passengers.

  • lmao gameboy last time I saw someone use a gameboy was like 5 years ago.

  • what airline?

  • For a 46 minute flight you might as well spend a few hours on the road and get there faster and cheaper.

  • lol........

  • i think were a little late in the ages 4 game boys, but that captain is awsum ur rite

  • what's a podium manager?!

  • The lady at the gate that makes the boarding announcements and scans your ticket.

  • who still got a gameboy

  • And now the spanish vertion please

  • no just learn english

  • Haha, nice!

  • Can you say GREYHOUND!!!

  • Screw the dogpound.

  • Actually the APU isn't just a ground power generator. It's spooled up anytime the plane loses main electrical power. There is a turbine that deploys from the belly of the plane that produces enough electrical power for basic instrument power and lighting.

  • game boys? lol

  • CAPT SNORTS COKE

  • hey, i recognize the flight attendants, its a san francisco crew, this is a 757, the pilots are prob based in minneapolis, its so nice when the pilots make the announcements like this. its so nice to see a flight deck crew that enjoys their job and show concern for the passengers. keep in mind, that the crew is not being paid till the plane leaves the gate. so its nice that they even show their faces during a ground holding.

  • NWA??

  • Well at least they did not keep you on the taxiway for this delay. I would rather eat something quickly in the airport and go back to the gate. Did they bring pizza or catering after the cancelattion?

  • was this on March 21st 2008, because I was flying out to florida for spring break, and i was scheduled to fly out of milwaukee, but they airport was closed cuz of the 15 inches of snow, so i got a flight out of O'Hare on United, then O'Hare closed, so i ended up in Midway on Southwest Airlines.

  • i live in milwaukee. =]

  • Geez....why not just whip out blackberrys and scheule this

  • lol... i sortof had to do this, on CO62 on a boeing 752 kiah-kewr because at KEWR our assigned gate was delayed because of a mechanical issues, and we had to wait about an hour or 2 on the tarmac wating for that aircraft to disembark

  • pfft..lol"blast off"

  • man this guy can dribble shit. its like watching letterman.

  • APU is used when the engines are off. Helps keep the lights on and the AC running. Plus other stuff of course but real pilots would have to give us the details.

  • Does pretty much everything you've mentioned. Also provides power to the starter motors for the engines and can power hydraulic pumps when the main engines are off...shit like that...

  • The APU is the Auxillary Power Unit. It is used primarily to provide pnumatic power to start the engines. Pnumatic power is air power, and the engines, in order to start and combust, need to be turning to compress and ignite the fuel and sustain the jet combustion. So the APU essentially blows lots of air into the engines. Now because the APU is an engine itself, they have thrown generators on it and it can function as a backup power supply as well, providing power when engines arent turning

  • :O OMG you know so mugc about planes! your a pilot?? im tranign to a be a pilot!!

  • impressive. Not that many knows how the APU is build up and how it works, except that it makes electricity.. :p

  • The flight attendant is conscientious. But He's a little long winded. I don't think the pax really care about when to push back and when to taxi and stuff. Just tell them when they can get underway should be enough.

  • Eventually. I got on a flight to Green Bay, then my dad picked me up from there.

  • wow that was really professional..

the last time i was on a flight that got cancelled i was in Washington Natl and it was NW..they pretty much just kicked us off no explanation

  • northwest sucks so much, i have like 989 horror stories

  • where were u going???

  • KMKE

  • are you guys in the air XD

  • Here's a pilot who really cares about his job. Nice of him to provide such detailed information when he doesn't get any material incentive to do so.

  • i never figured out how airplanes can stay with all lights lit and heat on for days and nothing happens?how dah fuck does this happen?

  • thanks to the APU (Auxiliary Power Unit), all those functions can function without the engines running (it's basically a little engine at the back of the airplane that provides electrical and pneumatic power to run the heating, cooling, and ventilation systems prior to starting the main engines.

  • ty=p!!

  • how bout GPU...

  • that should also help. i mean as long as its at the gate it should be providing additional power to the aircraft.

  • they run a small engine in the tail called an APU.. Auxillary Power Unit. tiny little thing,, but keep the lights lit and the temperature nice ::-0)

  • i thought APU was only used in case of propulsion failure?????

  • The engines are still running, I think they have some sort of turbine and this recharges the battery, Just like a car would =]

  • APU

  • da......

  • its called APU

    Auxiliary Power Unit.

its used to power up the aircraft on ground. when theres no ground power.

NO need to start engines like cars, in order to make this works.

  • Was this a Boeing 757?

  • I don't recall. Sorry.

  • Captain wants to "blastoff"? wow I guess this guy is a wanna be Astronaut maybe he should have been talking to NASA mission control instead of the airline dispatcher

  • i like nwa but delta merged but we get their double deckers

  • Airlines in the US seem to be a lot better at communicating situations like this. Have been on a number of airlines in Europe and the Pacific where the extent of their announcement is just "We apologise for the delay". It's always good to be kept informed, makes you less annoyed and anxious about the wait.

  • Get me a hotel a meal at a good restaurant and I'm happy. The room needs to have a jacuzzi tub lol.

  • wat airline???

  • NWA. Sorry, wasn't UAL.

  • Give some free food and booze
