How much of the peas, lemon, tahini, cumin, water and garlic do you use? I like your tip about the gas going into the water after cooking it but then you put the gassy water back in? How much is considered a serving? Can it be used for anything other than a dip? I saw some vids with humus as a dressing.. what do you think of wraps with whole grain wrap bread? thanks for all your hard work! I'm a meat eater overweight unhealthy person wanting to change my ways.. thanks for your help!
@jtotten1313 if you head to the link under the video, you'll get all of the amounts for the ingredients :) I use fresh water, not the stuff I drained off the chickpeas. I love to use hummus for lots of different things - spoonfuls on top of a salad, or thinned out to a dressing, as a base for pizza, in a wrap or sandwich... lots of ways to enjoy it :) I hope you have fun trying healthy recipes - they make healthy eating easy when they're delicious!
@running90away ooo, good tip! next time I'm stuck with a can I'll try that :) And yeah, I find any more than 1 Tbsp of tahini and hummus gets really sticky and heavy... have fun with it!
HELP! I am a meat eater that is switching to go meatless but am so in need of protein otherwise I get angry. Not kidding, around here my kids have learned that when my usually nice attitude changes to short temper, they ask if I have eaten yet and the answer is always no. @kuhntpunt - Choo Moose is what we do up here in Alaska. Enjoyed the vid.
Thank you, I agree vegetables are a nicer idea. I find pita chips too much so I will give the vegs a try instead. I love hummus and have been making it on a continuous basis since I discovered it this past spring. Yeah! I love it. Thanks for the video.
@deedevinebrake thanks for watching! hummus is the greatest thing to have around the house for afternoon snacks when you don't know what else to eat - so healthy and so delicious! it also makes a great spread in a sandwich.
@Annikichan great, I hope you have fun with it! It is a very easy thing to make if you use canned chickpeas, and is a great snack to have around for those afternoons when you need something and can't think of what... enjoy!

I tried this recipe last night and it was easy and good :-)
Do you have a brand of tahini that you recommend? I live in a small town with a small selection and the one brand we have, separates and is very hard to stir back together. I will possibly try ordering a better brand.
For tahini, I don't really have any particular brand that I'm loyal to, but anything that lists only sesame seeds on the ingredients is what I go for. This will inherently separate, since it's the additives that would make it stay homogeneous and not need stirring. Another thing you could do is make your own tahini by grinding some sesame seeds in a food processor or blender. Takes a bit of time, but you can have freshly ground ready to use!
@mommaplath Any time you have a nut or nut product, the best way to store it is in the fridge. The shelf life is pretty long, and I would go by smell and texture. If it starts to get harder and smell off, it's probably been around for too long. I would guess that after 3-4 months it will be getting on the old side. Go for a small jar, and one that lists only sesame seeds in the ingredients. An alternative would be to grind some sesame seeds yourself in a coffee grinder!
making it at home with canned peas is still much healthier & cheaper than buying in a store! It's so easy to whip up as well, so I do make it with canned peas sometimes too.
finally someone else who uses cooked beans!!! whenever i try it tho i never get it as creamy as i like, should i cook the beans longer on a lower temp? im using a vitamix.
If you cook the beans with salt, that would be the first thing I would try. If you add salt when cooking them, they won't fully soften. The next thing I would look at is the soaking & cooking time. You can soak them overnight, then cook. When they are fully cooked, they will smush fairly easily against the side of the pot. Yes, that is a technical term. The last thing to look at is the amount of liquid in your hummus. Add a bit more water and keep blending. Let me know how it goes!!
No cumin??????

@BlueColdDog that's interesting - is it just protein that you need, or have you tried adding healthy fats or just more nutrient-dense foods?
