I used this product once on my natural hair, and that was the last time. It was caked on and I felt like I needed to wash it out. I used the "Curly Pudding" "Sniffer Sensitive. No Nonsense Formula" I also purchased the lavender, "Curly Pudding" and I will find someone to give that one too.
The curly pudding is crap! The smell is really strong and NEVER goes away. The hair silkner is a little better but I use a little product and follow it up with some oil it helps my curls better. The best products I use come from hair veda! That's my staple along with store products.
@Kazpersmami It's $58 where I live!! I'll stick to $2 sample packs and maybe the 2oz for $9 BUT only if I'm feeling generous cuz that's a lil expensive for only 2 oz, lol!!
Whoever doesn't want the rest of their products, I'd be happy to use them :-)
and take them off of your hands.
I am using Curly Pudding and Quick Curls and a mixture of Kinky Curl Gel, they have a good line of natural hair products too ladies and is less expensive than Miss Jessie's sometimes I switch up. Kinky Curl is natural and leaves no flakes! It's great for an extra shine and adds moisture to your curls!
i know his vid is super old but okay i just got some free samples of the curly meringue and the butter cream, and wow i hatedddd the smell, it smells like something minty but super fake, it is lemony too the way u describe it. and full of mineral oil, parafinum and petroleum. but again, the smell is def hate it or like it and i hated it

girl i got the whole product line for my birthday 3 yrs ago and i still have 99 percent of all the styling products....i cant give them away because nobody wants them....they suck..except for quick curls :-)
I've never heard of these products until yesterday. After seeing your video & reading everyones comments, I'm not interested. Thank you for the video.
i actually like the products! i have the curly meringue, creme de la curl, deep conditioning mask, and stretch silkening creme... I thought they were great hold for my twist outs, but i just can't afford it! i'm DEFINITELY looking for less expensive options, but so far, they've honestly given me the best hold, i didn't have to use a lot of product, and my hair was NOT hard and crunchy!
After paying 25.00 for this product I was highly upset as well - it definitely felt like a bunch of crap piled on my hair as well- I washed it off immediately and put it in the closet to neeeeeeever be used again - such a disappointment :( - thanks for your opinion- glad to know it wasn't just me
It's all about trial and error. I have tried everything under the sun from suave to miss jessies, to mixed chicks and none of it works. I use my cousins natural products and they work. A few organics olive oil products, cantu Shea butter. I get jealous when those products work for other people haha X) but hey that's the beauty of our hair =0)
People always say there are better products for cheaper, but most "natural" products cost just as much and are completely inconsistent, high shipping costs, and ever-changing formulas. Miss Jessie's products work great for me *shrug*. Not directed at Taren, but I think ppl complain because people are unhappy with their hair and products in general, hence so much pjism. Mineral oil has gotten such a bad rap, but our mothers used it faithfully and their hair grew long 'n strong....
here is my thing i just brought the curly puddingand it good but dont know if im doing it right. becuz i feel like the pudding. Like i dont get the curls i want do like the back is like a big puff and dry and i condition all the time do u hv advice. BTW do i need that nozzle for the blow dry
love the meringue, miss jessie your so pretty, you almost look like tisha campbell but more prettier...:)) thank you for your curly hair products, cannot wait to try the rest.
I agree with you! I have an entire jar of that expensive cream in my closet. I loved it when I had my hair done in the Miss Jessies in D.C but that was a one time treat. But I will stick with Shea Moisture products.
If you could give more specifics as to what you liked or didn't like about the products succinctly/quickly that would be fantastic!! (You have so many videos, probably can't wait 'til 10 minutes in to find out the bottom line) that would be great! This one got a little sleepy, but thanks so much for all the fabulous info!! :)
I bought the sample pack and I only like the curly buttercreme and the quick curls. I haven't tried curly meringue. After your "opinion", I don't think I want to.
The curly pudding left my hair dry and matted. The worst product ever. I tried this product several different ways to make sure I wasn't doing anything wrong. Hated it!!!
Have you ever heard of Synergi Salon Products. They are natural hair care products from a salon based in Columbus,OH. They also have a natural hair care article every Monday on ColumbusBlack. You should check them out. I've been using their products for over one year. Very good line.
I actually thought I was the only one. I was so excited to buy Ms. Jessie's, I tried it and my hair was limp. I thought maybe I used to much, or something. I cowash with their Shampoo, Super Slip (which I love) and again my hair felt hard, crunchy and really dry. So sad, that it didn't work, but so glad I didn't buy the $50 jar. What other cream do you use?
Hi I actually talked with you at the Miss Jessie salon opening in SOHO yesterday and I was wondering how your experience was with the application of the stretch silkening creme by Miko? I'm the one you were talking to about the straight ends...
You know the thing that annoys me most about miss jessie's more than their constant need to put mineral oil in all of their products, are their PRICES...
they use SUCH cheap ingredientts, including mainly mineral oil, and then sell for ridiculously high prices... why???
I really think your hair looks great with the Meringue product in. But each person and their hair is different. I don't understand the curly pudding myself, not for my hair. So I can truly see how you feel with this product.
Gosh Taren, I bought the full size of that, the stretch cream,AND the baby butter cream, i blew over 200 bucks on that crap...well im reconsiering the curly meringue because it think it worked but i used too much as i tend to be heavy handed with applying products. the baby butter cream, you might as well but thick chicken grease in your hair,it was awful.
I always say when I first started using MIss Jessie's about 5 yrs ago it was the BOMB!!!. Then I think maybe 2 yrs ago they changed the formula. Now one of the main ingredients is mineral oil. That right there kinda upset me. How in the world are they charging $60 for a jar of baby oil?!?!
The stuff left my hair hard and crunch. It felt like ramen noodles. I was heart broken.
Booooo! I am just playin' lol. I love the Curly Meringue. It's may fav right now. I like to use an oil underneath the MJ products. If it doesn't work, then it just doesn't work. the stretch silkening creme has an even lighter hold. I was hoping you would fall in love with MJ the way I did, but to each her own. lol. It is interesting to see how different curlies feel about the products. WTF? I say that acronym about Kinky Curly.
I bet Miko and Titi are cringing at this review. LOL they may come and put it on your hair to change your mind personally after this! lol! You reach so many viewers that I wouldnt doubt it lol. I first purchased curly merignue when I was transitioning because on Naturallycurly it said it was good for transitioners....NO! Now that I am 100% natural I busted it out again and I liked it....
Thank you for this "opinion" video...lol. I was just in Target and saw that Miss Jessie's products are now being sold there. I was tempted to purchase them. They only had the large sizes, and the prices ranged from $22 - $58....a little steep for my single-mom pockets. But I don't think I'm going to try them anymore. It looks like our hair texture is very similar, so I imagine the product would work the same on me. Thanks for the heads up!!! Keep the videos coming!!! Take care.
She also said while its drying don't touch! Lol...she actually told me about 5 times...don't touch let it dry without manipulation.
Hope this helps...if you still have a sample of the Curly Pudding you may want to try it alone with a small amount applied to each section of you hair. Take care!
@ColdDiva Thank you so much for that tid bit! I will try it that way when I do try the Curly Pudding.. I wish I was able to be there.. I will definitely be there next year :-)
old them in complete honesty I didn't care for the results in my hair of the Curly Buttercreme. She had me wet my hair and instructed me that first F.Y.I tighter the coil the more the product should be applied the looser the curl the lesser. After she demo'ed in my hair it turned out great! And she used the Curly Pudding only in my hair nothing else. She combed out each section with a thin toothed comb and put it in.
Hey Taren!...Love your Channel! Very inspirational! Okay about Miss Jessies...if you had asked me just a few days ago I would have completely agreed with you! A friend gave me the Curly Buttercreme and it totally did nada for my curls! Fast forward to April 10th where I went to a Natural Hair Show in ATL and had the pleasure of meeting Miko and Titi the owners of Miss Jessies who were there doing consultations. I
Yeah, can't really comment on any of the products except the Quick Curls and Stretch Silkining Creme... I love them both but I haven't used them together. I was on the fence for awhile about whether or not I wanted to try any Miss Jessie's products, but finally broke down tried SSC and the QC. I think that I have all the products I need to get the job done... unless some new miracle styler comes along...
What would you recommend. i have been transitioning for a year and am about to do the big chop on May 1st and I want to take my curly product to the salon with me. Any recommendations so I can start trying them now to see what will work?
@UntamedTomi Congrats on your upcoming BC! Hmmm.. That would be a little difficult not knowing or having an idea of what you texture is... Describe it for me
Hi, I love your vids! I had the same reaction when I first used the curly buttercream. After I used it on my hair with nothing else and with the quick curls it was good. It too over priced for the results though.
Taren, you said they stated they what was worst and best, and Ms Jessie's was the worst. would you mind sharing what they said was the best and what hair types they were cause I am noticing it seems certain hair textures like certain hair products, like kinky curly seems to have consistent results in kinkier hair types based on the youtube videos.
Sorry the Miss Jessies didn't work out for you.. but at least you didn't spend an arm and a leg on the product. Frankly, I don't get the whole deal with Miss Jessies. I think the products are way over priced (even at Target!) which is ironic considering they do use mineral oil and petroleum as cheap as they are.... I rarely use stylers in my hair so even if I thought MJ's was a good product line.. I wouldn't be using it anyway. BLEH!
The sample packet initally came with 6 jars, it didnt come with the new products; the sweet back, quick curls & curl cleansing. 2 years ago when I brought it, believe it or not, it was only $24 !! And now it's $40 higher. That shows how greed has come to play with the company. :(
I did go and see that they did lower the shipping price a little, but whose gonna pay 12.32 for shipping when your initial purchase is for $9 ?
Hi Taren, I just watched your latest videos and you said you thought about an haircut. I don't think you need it, maybe you should use really light products for your hair not to be flat? Your layers are pretty good!
Maybe you'll have to accept, if you want to keep your length, that your hair won't be THAT big anymore in a few months.
I had the same reaction with the pudding!! omg I was so disappointed because I really heard good things about Miss Jessie's products. It just wasn't good to my hair, it felt as you described on application and while after it dried it looked defined, it was hard and left my hair brittle. :(
i totally agree with the smell part i hated it! i dont think i could ever buy it again due to smell and the way my hair turned out...im excited to see how the pudding works for you!
I think the only one I liked was the baby buttercreme. But since greed set in with this company by increasing their prices from 38 to 58 and the shipping cost of 15, I'd rather find another product that works better and less expensive.
@taren916, I noticed the price changes when I initially online last year and told you about the products, I was totally shocked ! You'd think with the economy and recession that some companies would get a clue rather than raise their prices out of greed ! Yeah, the $15 is a flat shipping fee at least for CA unless they changed it.
@hourglas39 I agree..I only liked the buttercreme too, it made my hair really soft, but not enough to pay 60 bucks for it ever again...shea butter for me!
@Naptural85, Diva you got that right on not paying that kind of money for it again! Just not worth it. Hey where can I purchase the Shea Butter ? I did like the softness that I feel with my hair for sure, but Miss Jessies just aint worth giving my unemployment money too for sure ! hahahah
I have to agree with you Taren i JUST USE the curly buttercreme i love the way it tingle on my scalp but the peppermint smell gets to me so ur right about the smell thing and i just bought a jar yesterday of the butter creme it was 63 dollars crazy!!!!!!
when i fist went natural i was so excited to see that they had a sale with all 7 products from miss jessie's line. i tried the curly meringue and it was awful. my hair turned out dry frizzy lookin and crunchy. i called their 1800# and spoke to a gentleman who advised that i should try it on dripping whet hair...same results. i also realized that all their products has mineral oil, which my skin hates! im going to stick to kccc, eco and cant wait to try donna maries curling gelly

I have tried Miss Jessies products and really wished I like them because for the price- I was expecting miracles! I still have those products in my bin. Unfortunately, I will not be using them again. I have to give them away.
Hey Taren! I tried the Curly Meringue and it didn't work out too well for me.
In August of 2009, I decided not to 'blow-fry' my hair no more, trying products from Deva Curl (whose ingredients began to over dry my strands), Kinky Curly (which didn't seem to produce the same results I had the first week), and finally the Curly Meringue (which seemed to frizz my hair terribly. I want to use Mixed Chicks, but the ingredients aren't so natural. Why did you ever stop using it to begin with?
For me Ms. Jessie's pudding and meringue do not work with wash and goes. They only work with twist/braid outs. You can't use a lot because if you do it will be disasterous.
I use the baby buttercreme by miss jessie's and absolutely love it. There is a synthetic feel to the product so I know what u mean by it works. But it was $58 for 16 oz. So I wait for the annual BOGO sales
Hi Taren! I just started subscribing to your videos, and I love them! Keep up the good work! I agree with you on the Miss Jessie's Curly Meringue...I hated it! I can't wait for you to try the Curly Pudding! I have 3b/3c hair and it works very well for me! I haven't used it in a few months, simply because I've been trying other products, but I think you will like the Curly Pudding definitely! I'll be waiting to see your review on that!
Fuck Ricky's...I ordered a headband in the mail and didn't receive it and they won't give me my money back or send me a new one. Not to mention call me back nor show concern. DON'T ORDER FROM THEM!!
@gucci51080 OMG for real? Wow, they are such a well known chain beauty supply... I wouldn't think that mishap would happen... How crappy is that.. They run out of stock on it so quickly maybe it's backordered but they should still let you know that... Sorry that happened to you :-/
@gucci51080 That's really surprising to me. I ordered KCCC from theyr'e store and there was a glitch with my bank during the ordering process. When I called the number on the website, the lady was very polite, understanding and accomodating...she even helped me set-up a three-way call with my bank to get everything straightened out! I'm sorry to hear about your bad experience, but mine was the exact opposite...weird...
I'm so jealous of your hair. I have done everything to try to get it this, but it ends up just turning wavy then straight when it reaches a certain hair length. :,(
I'm not a fan MJ. I just don't like the way my hair feels.
"Something in your hair that shouldnt be there" Is Mineral Oil lol and some other weird names. I brought so much of the Curly Pudding when I first styled natural. Did good for me but I switched over to Kinky Curly NOW :) I LOVE IT more def. and shine none drying and my 1st try I didnt like but gave it another and LOVE IT! :)
I have never tried Ms. Jessies and was going to buy the sample size of the baby buttercreme..I've heard nothing but good things about it and it's actually the only product I've heard great things about...i'm trying the afroveda line now and it's cheaper and I think it works pretty good so far
@30Hickss Yeah my favorite out of Miss Jessie's is the Curly Buttercreme... The Quick Curls is decent too but I'll pass on the rest of the stuff...Lol
I was planning to give the product a try once i learned that Target started carrying them. They were sold out though. I only really wanted to try the sample size anyway. But now I just don't know!
I'm also not a fan of miss jessie's products. They go in my hair so heavy and greasy.... and when it dries = * ( .
One of my pals swears, that if I shellacked much more of it into my hair, then smoother + twirled each individual curl, then sat under a dryer that I'd have different results....but bleh I don't see the point of having using a high maintenance and inconsistent product on my shelf, when so many other products give better results with so much less fuss involved.
Taren u are not the only one. I have 16 oz Jars of all these stuff thinking its just as amazing as the Kinky Curly WRONG.....it made my hair really frizzy and dry and just looked horrible...I honestly thought i was the only one..
I tried their products and my hair didn't do well with it. I even followed their methods using the instructions they provided on their website. I suppose its not for everyone...
gurl all their products shud feel that way their first or second ingredient in every product they have is PETERULUM *yuck*. When u ask them why they use this formula which most of us kno is an oil that just sits on the hair shaft w/out moisturizing or allowing moisture in they say their products are not going to change. u know if u wanna try something new i luv blended beauty styling butter and darcy botanicals deep penterating mask. ( jus an option)
The Curly Meringue is my favorite product. I would think that it would be too heavy for your hair type. The stretch silkening creme may be a better fit for you. The MJ products must be applied to hair that is wet. I apply and them spray hair again with water. Takes a while to dry, but perfect hair on 4a/3c hair.
@MsKinkydiva I tried the Stretch Silkening and I didn't like it either... It was actually worse... Lol.. And of course I applied the product on my wet hair...
Have you tried any of the DivaCurls product? I have tryied the No-poo for washing the hair and One-conditioner for conditioning. Both leave my hair very soft and manageable. I am willing to bet that any of their curly style product are just as good. Check out bluebeez web site for all kinds of hair products including dominican products at a reasonable price.
Do you think this product could possibly work better on thin hair or short curly hair? I'm ready to experiment with some natural brands and have read in comments below that some of the Miss Jessie's is sold at Target. I REALLY want to try Kinky Kurly, but have heard mixed reviews on that brand. But I will say that in the past when I didn't listen to reviews about a product and I tried it....BIG mistake lol so I will probably take heed of this one
@lyrical1ne hey I heard u say that u wanna try natural brands and i kno u wanted taren to respond but i jus wanted 2 say miss jessie does not use natural ingredients. so if ur intention is to try somethin natural u may wanna try sumthing else
@lyrical1ne All in all, there are sooooo many other products out there that can do a way better job and in addition actually nourish your hair at the same time.. MJ doesn't do anything for our hair but coat is with crap...Lol.... The ingredients are horrible and I don't think are good for long term use... I say go for the KInky Curly...At least her stuff is natural..
You're absolutely right. I drank the Kool-Aid for awhile on my daughter's hair and then realized that the stuff wasn't working. It sits on top of the hair and works against it instead of working with your hair or penetrating your hair. Yet, it's on top AND now being offered in select Target stores.
Ive been going to Curve Salon for some time now and I swore by Miss Jessies products, I do see what you mean about the application but I think after going to the salon they teach you how to use the products to get the optimal results. With all that being said, I have decided to try the KKC and see how that works. Thanks for always giving your honest feedback and being so informative. I love the Tresemme Naturals conditioner, it is the bomb!!!!!
I agree with you about Miss Jessie's, never gave me great results, and we have similar hair. And if you read the ingredients they aren't "special" or even expensive your probably paying for profit and packaging of the product rather than the ingredients. I tried out all of the products, and would never buy any of them again. The Baby Buttercreme has mineral oil, a very cheap additive which isn't good for your hair because it prevents moisture into the hair shaft, so beware.

KUEENIE1947 1 year ago
Hi I actually talked with you at the Miss Jessie salon opening in SOHO yesterday and I was wondering how your experience was with the application of the stretch silkening creme by Miko? I'm the one you were talking to about the straight ends...

I love your hair.
I am trying to get my hair more curly like yours.
But its smaller curls.
It might be because my hair is shorter?
chantie2812 1 year ago

On the other hand their conditioners are GREAT!!

Take care!

old them in complete honesty I didn't care for the results in my hair of the Curly Buttercreme.

your results look like mine! It stretches my hair too much to where my hair doesnt curl! I think I'll go back to the curly buttercream.

Hi, I love your vids! I had the same reaction when I first used the curly buttercream. After I used it on my hair with nothing else and with the quick curls it was good. It too over priced for the results though.
anjelcake11 1 year ago
Taren, you said they stated they what was worst and best, and Ms Jessie's was the worst. would you mind sharing what they said was the best and what hair types they were cause I am noticing it seems certain hair textures like certain hair products, like kinky curly seems to have consistent results in kinkier hair types based on the youtube videos.
indesign18 1 year ago

I did go and see that they did lower the shipping price a little, but whose gonna pay 12.32 for shipping when your initial purchase is for $9 ?
hourglas39 1 year ago
Hi Taren, I just watched your latest videos and you said you thought about an haircut. I don't think you need it, maybe you should use really light products for your hair not to be flat? Your layers are pretty good!
Maybe you'll have to accept, if you want to keep your length, that your hair won't be THAT big anymore in a few months.

I had the same reaction with the pudding!! omg I was so disappointed because I really heard good things about Miss Jessie's products. It just wasn't good to my hair, it felt as you described on application and while after it dried it looked defined, it was hard and left my hair brittle. :(

I think the only one I liked was the baby buttercreme. But since greed set in with this company by increasing their prices from 38 to 58 and the shipping cost of 15, I'd rather find another product that works better and less expensive.
Thanks for your reivew.

@hourglas39 Get outta here! 38 to 58?? Wow! And $15 for shipping?! That's just plain insane...
taren916 1 year ago
@taren916, I noticed the price changes when I initially online last year and told you about the products, I was totally shocked ! You'd think with the economy and recession that some companies would get a clue rather than raise their prices out of greed ! Yeah, the $15 is a flat shipping fee at least for CA unless they changed it.

CCNYCA 1 year ago
For me Ms. Jessie's pudding and meringue do not work with wash and goes. They only work with twist/braid outs. You can't use a lot because if you do it will be disasterous.

@gucci51080 That's really surprising to me. I ordered KCCC from theyr'e store and there was a glitch with my bank during the ordering process. I'm also not a fan of miss jessie's products. They go in my hair so heavy and greasy.... and when it dries = * ( .
One of my pals swears, that if I shellacked much more of it into my hair, then smoother + twirled each individual curl, then sat under a dryer that I'd have different results....but bleh I don't see the point of having using a high maintenance and inconsistent product on my shelf, when so many other products give better results with so much less fuss involved.

gurl all their products shud feel that way their first or second ingredient in every product they have is PETERULUM *yuck*.

MsKinkydiva 1 year ago
