  • Great piano playing at the end of the song. Makes me think of Mick Ronson in Lou Reed's Perfect Day.

  • Best version of this terrific song I've ever heard is by one of the greatest vocal groups in the history of rock 'n roll: The Association. Amazing harmonies (as always with them). A complete joke that they're not in the phony Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

  • Is the Snow Queen NYC? It seems to fit.

  • wow, this is great

  • *****

  • Great song by one of the GREATS!

  • Been a fan of Carole King since 1972 but only heard this track a few years ago. Anyone know if I can a cd of this?

  • Forgot to add earlier.

    The photos are superb, too!

  • Wonderful song!

  • Hey Lory - What a great visual experience you put together to enhance this song! It totally captures the sleepless days and nights wandering around the city after a heart breaking encounter with a Snow Queen. Been there done that too many times! Even though the rooms aren't smoke filled anymore - at least here in New York - the icy stare will always be there. Thanks again for putting together such a great visual that expresses the inexpressible!

  • Carole, I love you, from 1968!

  • I didn't discover this album until 1985 at a friend's house. Played it a lot that summer then forgot about it until Alison Krauss came out with a cover of The Foundation's Baby, Now That I've Found You in 1995.

Back to The City : I do Alison's version of BNTIFY on guitar . The progression is the same as the chorus on a song from that album, Paradise Alley, so I sometimes add it just for fun.

  • Never get tired of hearing this! This is thee best version of "Snow Queen" by anyone. Blood, Sweat & Tears did it, and so did the Association. Too often, the others got the lyrics wrong.

  • I agree. I love hearing this song again and again and yet I never heard Carole's version before this post! It's so jazzy. I heard BS&T's version near 40 years ago and that's also hard to find.

The Association had some great songs but I never heard their version. I hope someone posts it.

  • Blood, Sweat & Tears did a version of this?? Wow!!! But I agree with you, this is the definitive version...the only music I have heard of BS&T is the soundtrack to The Owl & the Pussycat...

  • This IS a fantastic song! I was aware Carole King had a band called the City and cut one album before she went solo, but I never got around to checking out. Thank goodness for this YouTube post. It shows that Carole could write great songs in a more jazzy/progressive mold as well as in the Brill Building pop and mellow '70s pop that we all know and love her for.

  • A somewhat different version than the one on "Pearls." I cannot get enough of it......them!

  • FANTASTIC IMAGES!!!!

  • Wow my favorite high schhol song. Still love it. Had to special order it last year. Thanks

  • Beautiful song and love the montage - nicely done!! Any of you Carole King fans - I recommend you read newish book "Girls LIke Us" - - bio of Carole, Jone Mitchell and Carly Simon - great read with tons of music/rock history as well as nice perspective on those changing times

  • that was such a great book! thanks for mentioning it

  • Wow. I saw a vinyl copy of this yesterday. I must go back for it.

  • Can't stop listening to this great song.

  • One of my faves - a jazz waltz with Carole King's genious.

  • This comes from Carole's band (ostensibly) from the late 60's called The City and the recording "Now That Everything's Been Said"....it blows the DOORS off of Tapestry. Her greatest release ever, brilliant and it shows she could hang with Laura-

  • N e 1 kno if her live @ CARNEGIE HALL performance of this is available?

  • This is my favorite C.K. song. I love so many, but this one has a special something that distinguishes it from the rest. The Carnegie Hall version is absolutely amazing!! I have it, and I believe it is available to buy. I recommend it highly. The whole CD is flawless in her brilliance. J.T. sits in too. As far as I know, there is no video of the Carnegie Hall show, but I sure would love to see footage from that time. This image montage is awesome!! Where did you get the pics?

    5 Stars from me.

  • Snow Queen is my XBOX.

  • as well known and respected as she is, Carole King may still be the most underrated songwriter of pop music. her variety of songs and their adaptability in many forms is unparalleled.

  • @maida1982a No, that would be Todd Rundgren.

  • i do hope it remains obscure for eternity. i would feel really disappointed if this songs falls in the hands of a smartass advertising dude who thinks it might suit the next sainsbury's commercial.

  • THIS is the classic, full-arrangement version.

One of Carole King's greatest songs, although it is not well known.

    What a melody.

    And those soaring harmonies.

    Wow.

    And wow again.

Thank you so much for posting this.

  • I remember this song playing in the mid-sixties. It's stayed with me all this time, and I just now found out who performed it. Haunting.

  • in the 70's blood sweat and tears did of version of it in 4/4. anybody post it?

  • this song is so addictive

  • CK gets so much well deserved credit for her songwriting, it's easy to forget what a great pianist she is. BTW, she recorded another version of this on her Pearls CD. I can't decide which I like better but a great great song. Thanks!

  • Greatest hits compilations always leave out these beautiful gems that go unfortunately unheard.

  • I've been trying to find out what song this was for 42 years. Very obscure. I didn't know Carol King wrote it. I only heard the Small Circle of Friends version. Good song, good lyrics. Kind of odd and different, but good!

  • Great song, great job on the video Lory73. I enjoyed it.

  • Man, it's a shame this album didn't get enough praise or radio play when it was released, I mean this is amazing.

  • Lou Adler was selling or moving Ode Records, the label, and decided to let the album sink rather than promote it. I love Carole's piano work on this album...a little more jazzy than Tapestry's. The album is a must for Carole King fans.

  • The photographs of New York in the 1960s are a brilliant visual enhancement to the song. I really enjoyed this. It's hard to stop playing.

  • The accompaniment of photos from 1960s New York is tremendous. The music and visuals enhancement each other nicely. Extremely good.

  • One of Carole's greatest songs...anyone has a live video of this song? I remember this song also performed by Blood Sweat and Tears in the Philippines long time ago...great rendition too...thanks for the post.

  • Your welcome!:)

I'm sorry I do not have a live version of "The Snow Queen".

    Thanx for watching
