  • didnt like the background noise of a tv or radio.

  • Are you sure your female canary is simply being a chatter box like all other females

  • heres one way of telling a female from a male.put thread through the needle.,hold the canary upsidedown so the needle is dangling over his belly/breast area.if the needle swings side to side its a male,if the needle goes in a circular motion then its a female,or have i got it the wrong way round....gonna check mine at some stage again and will get back on here, try it out somone and msg me if it works.if the needle doesnt move, ask someone else in your house to try it(something to do with static)

  • its true ... i use it with my canaries

  • my female canaries can sing

  • Guys help! how can I distinguish a female canary from a male, without to touch the bird?

  • i didnt think females could sing

  • females never sing like males just few short sounds thats all

  • my female canaries sing i have 3 female canaries and 2 males

  • can 2 males be kept in a small cage? I have a male and an other bird i thought was male. The male feeds trys the other bird and sings to it. A male canary would not do that to another male canary would it?

  • No! No birds should be kept in a small cage. All birds should have big cages, but never put two male canaries in the same cage. Good luck!

  • yes you can keep them together if they get along even if they are both males. I have a bourke parakeet male that is friends with my male canary, and they feed each other sometimes.

However for breeding it is best to keep males separately. They need to establish their own personal 'territory' and build testosterone. The presence of another male will likely cause problems with that.

  • Oh, and by the way, yes, you should give them a flight cage when not breeding so they can get some exercise. Some canaries are even hand tame so can be let out, as well. You may even be able to get a "bird diaper" (google them) for them to keep them from pooping all over. They really do work and come in sizes as small as american budgie/parrotlet, which will probably work for a canary. It takes a bit of doing to learn how to put it on correctly though.

  • i have a female (i found out by the eggs she was laying on one day), and she sings her little heart out. she sings more than my male. she especially likes to sing along with the guitar.

  • thats bullshit females newer sing like males only short sounds thats all I`v been breeding canaries all my life, who r u kitting?

  • all your life,eh? how old are you exactly? going by your spelling,id say 4 1/2!

  • I just bought a male Canary and I couldn't get him to sing - as soon as I play this video he sings like crazy. Thanks for posting this!
