Yeah i really dont think the Velvet Underground influenced The Fall all that much- I reckon The Fall are a way more dynamic and prolific band for starts- and way better value for money - i mean VU didnt come out with a whole load of material really- I reckon MES would say they were a bunch of lazy bastards!!- HE HE !!!
This song is the audio equivalent of walking into HMV and mowing down all the dicks buying Tinie Tempah, Lady Gaga or Jessie J singles with a fuck-off machine gun.
Proof that the VU influence did not escape the Fall either (witness Mark E's album with Ed Blaney on which they do a very 'special' version of WAITING FOR THE MAN).
im 21 and i love the fall more than any other band ever. its funny, because i didn't discover them until i was about 19 but when i did there was a moment like "ah, this was what i was looking for all along" and it was as if the fall were the original source material for everything else i had been listening to, the fall up to about 85 made much of what i'd heard since then seem derivative and dated. i get so disappointed that seemingly noone of my generation wants to make music like this.
I bloody love this song. I think its adapted from a HP Lovecraft short story called 'The Hound' if anyones interested. its well worth a read anyway
