You can't compare Sister Gays to Jeff Loomis. Jeff Loomis knows that the chromatic scale isn't the only scale in existence. And that chromatic-scale runs played in triplets boringly over and over, with some tasteless chromatic sweeps thrown in a guitar solo does not make. What's with these talentless mallcore bands coming out these days? Get the memo. Chromatic is not the only guitar scale. Just the most obvious, easiest to rip on, and the most boring/tasteless.

@xparty Actually, Chris Broderick wasn't the one who auditioned 20 years ago and got rejected. It was actually Jeff. Jeff got rejected cuz Dave told him that he was too young and eventually Marty got the gig. Broderick joined Nevermore for live gigs only and later joined Megadeth replacing Glen Drover after Dave took interest in his youtube videos. This concludes our lecture on Metal History 101 for idiots.

Wikipedia isn't reliable, go look up interviews on youtube yourself. LOL

A lot of people talk about Becker as the ultimate of shred guitarists, but I've never found his music as interesting as guys like Loomis, John Petrucci, or Paul Gilbert. Though at the end of the day I suppose it's a matter of personal taste. Credit for really starting off the whole "insane, technical guitar playing," however, goes to Al Di Meola. He was doing stuff this fast in the mid 70's. Granted it was more jazz fusion...
