  • Wow, you've really been at this awhile. Cool to look back over your progress from spark to mastery!

  • Keep the videos coming. Thanks again for them!

  • I have a great appreciation to be able to watch someone who has truly mastered something. Its amazing! I live in oxford which is close to senatobia where you taught.

  • 2:09 two workouts at once

  • That's awesome I hope to continue 30+ years later also.. But I think the bag was suppose to be a little higher? Like 2 inches higher.. Not too sure though.. Nice vid!

  • its like music

  • if the bag wasnt there it would look like hes in the middle of a circle jerk

    but nice work

  • Hmm how come ur hair is getting darker and darker :)

  • Fascination, never seen anyone that good

  • You are a god on the bag!!!! I'm getting my practice on just because of you.

  • Is it possible to injure the right knee because When I am learning the speed bag, I am only pivoting only on the right leg? What can i do to correct my pivoting problem?

  • @8235919 I guess it's possible but I have never heard of it as you describe. I can't really say how to "correct" it without seeing your stance, swing and movement while punching, with a wide enough shot to see your feet and the pivot move you describe. Perhaps you can post a video for review? good luck.

  • @8235919 I've heard that if you wear shoes that are hard to pivot in it can eventually be hard on your knees. IOW, the better the traction of your shoes the more torque on your knee when you pivot.

  • sooo inspirational. im going to start.

  • 2:09 multi-tasking at its finest

  • OMG!!!

Superman play with speed bag =))

  • Awesome to see you keep training for so many years! How many speed bags have you gone through!?

  • Alan, I still have the speed bag bible and personalized tape you sent me back in '93 or '94 (I think). My name is Joe and I was working a security detail at the Mirage in Vegas. I'd taken martial arts before but never worked out on a speed bag. The stuff you showed me that day was AWESOME and i incorporated speed bag into my workout because of you. Thanks for taking the time to share!

  • One day ill be that good

  • almost as fast as devildrivers drummers double bass haha ;)

  • one of my favorite videos to inspire me before i go hitt the bag. thank you.

  • good song

  • FUCK U LOOK LIKE U HAVE FUN

It always looks fun but to me its a bore

  • Hey ur my idol...

    D best

  • that charles bronson's brother is the number one on speed bag!

  • BRO YOU ARE MY IDOL

  • was u stoned through most training? i do, helps me learn faster.

  • This is Sick Bro

  • Respect

  • damn, this was awesome! thanks for sharing this with us, you've got crazy skills man!

  • that was AMAZING. keep beating Alan!!!

    thumbs up from Spain

  • Keep it up Alan

  • I didn't realize a punching bag was actually a percussion instrument! This looks like fun.

  • Did you eve compete in Boxing or combat sports?

  • nice!

  • Would be funny if you had edited and reversed the order of the video!

  • @Psypherion. Ah yes, If I could reverse the order of this to end at the beginning I would be in a lot better shape, weight at least 40lbs less and enjoy life without pain. Getting old sucks and is highly overrated. My advice is exercise in moderation and stop before you ground your joints to dust. And don't fall for the TV networks hooha that 60 is the new 40. Trust me, 60 is 60, especially if you kept acted like you were 20 when you were 40. Regardless, Keep Punching!

  • @speedbag1

You're really good. I just started and want to get good like you.

  • would love to see this in super-slow motion

  • No I haven't. First of all, there is no easy place to attach a face to the swivel and heads don't rebound well of the board. Second, up to this point I have only had to punch bags, not people.

  • Of course! The speed bag is a unique "Punch Drum", played with the fists of a drummer. The beat can used used to any song, just like any other drum.

  • Actually at 3:09 - 3:14 I was sending a telepathic message to the viewer. If you don't get it then you're not telepathic. Just relax and feel the beat. Soon, it will come.

  • You know at 3:09 he was thinking, Ya I still got it.

    This is amazing!

  • 3:10 -- 'sup ladies?

  • ok I quit

  • @harryforeman

Because I had a video camera and I can.

  • @speedbag1 is so gay

  • Have you ever done this on someones face?

  • somebody get this guy on that show warped!

  • this guy must be amazing when he's jacking off

  • how does it work ?!

  • 2:08 kindve sounded like kieth moons drumm solo (:

  • Shopped.

  • Inspirational, superb video !

  • I can't believe it's the same guy!

  • @Solowizard HA! Wait till you see what age and arthritis due to you.

  • @speedbag1 - That's why I eat plenty of tropical friuts and vegetables, lean meat (no pork), whole wheat bread (no more white bread), take a muti-vitamin a day (Centrum Silver), drink plenty of water, try to sleep at least 6 - 8 hrs a day, jog 6 miles a week, and exercise (once a week) until I'm dripping soak and wet with sweat.

  • very nice :D

  • Just getting into speed bags for exercise. I honestly thought I was getting the hang of it...then I watched this video.

  • @Kreggett All it takes is knowledge of how it works and practice. I'm not doing anything that you can't do. Thousands have learned and you can too. Don't give up! The journey of learning is just as much fun as the destination.

  • DAMN,,! Brandon. That sucks cus at 47 I was considering becoming a boxer. Oh well. Se la vi,, lol. Jk.

  • hey alan nice work what did u do professionally in boxing if anything?

  • @donnav786 NO to professional - or amateur boxing. Just a frustrated drummer trying to get a workout. Boxing has very little or nothing to do with it. They just use it in a limited way.

  • @speedbag1 thank you.

  • great video man wouldnt like to fight you

  • This is pretty awesome! Lots of cool tricks, but just so everyone knows, becoming good at the speed bag won't make you a good boxer. The best speed bagers in the world are actually not boxers. The best boxers in the world couldn't do half the stuff this guy is doing. If you want to be a good "speed bager", spend all your time on the speed bag learning new tricks. If you want to become a good boxer, you can't spend all your training time dicking around with the speed bag.

  • @BrandonPumel I agree with you. IMO, hitting the speed bag like I do has very little to do with boxing. Most people associate the speed bag with boxing because that is where it is usually seen, and boxing is the only sport that has embraced the speed bag as a "standard training activity", which is too bad for the eye-hand coordination and repetitive and rhythmic movements learned can benefit activities far beyond boxing.

  • @thedeathmetalartist Not in the sense of making you look like your on steriods..it really works your shoulder muscles though, your shoulders will be sore the next day if you get in a good speed bag workout. But it's more for hand eye coordination.

  • HOLY SHIT! WOW!

  • Crazy fast dude

  • haha ate the beginning its like the bag is making music, then it sounds like a chopper

  • Amazing. You've given me something to shoot for.

  • i just started speed baging any tips?

  • Dude your the man

  • u rock!

  • Dude!!!! That's awesome. I move into a place n the previous tenants left a bag here I just started 3 days ago. What an inspiration!!!

  • Amazing. I just started messing around with the speed bag again. What's the song in 2002?

  • @DaraJean When the text say "2002" at 2m55sec, the song is "Mysterious" by 2unlimited. Most of their music is awesome for the speed bag, and several of my favorites are "Get ready for this", "Twilight Zone", "Tribal Dance" ,"Mysterious" and "Contrast". I love them all.

  • 83 yr old speed bagger must be your grandpa seriously your are the king of speed bag.

  • his taste in music sure changed lol good vid

  • wowowow

  • This is kinda sad seeing his whole life pass by in minutes....

  • what would happen if he fought someone? would their face ever be the same?

  • Blew my mind

  • art

  • Whoa !!! do you have your own religion too???? I wanna join

  • Fantastic job!

  • 0:54 looks like it kinda scimmed your face abit

  • You are amazing. About you buy your book. Cant wait.

  • Author of Speed Bag Bible....no wonder why he's a speed bag GOD!

  • you are a beast! i have to practice even more now to try and give you a run for your money

  • Awsome sauce !!!

  • Amazing. Great job..

  • Alan -that was some bad ass shit, very cool sequence. The skills and the hair line stayed in tact -nice.

  • @BEATCOP22:

Yeah, I'm glad my hairline stayed in tact. I wish my waistline had done the same.... :-(

  • @speedbag1 - Much easier to trim the waist than control the hair.

  • hey alan...this is jumpcannon from the forums....excellent video! you make it look effortless!

  • ♫ Music to my ears ♫

  • Yes. Cool!!!!!!

  • Your an inspiration to all boxers and martial artist.

can I ask if your hands ever hurt from working the speedbag? I never wear wraps and I was told to, I just don't like the feel of wraps.

Also have you ever used the forearm, palm, wrist in striking the bag?

  • just search firefighter vs speedbag

  • up close and personal, just the way you gotta treat the bag... you inspired me to learn... check out a short video of me speed bagging.

  • i love your videos man, hope to find your book somewhere in mx soon...

if you can, please explain... if the speedbag is too low on the pressure, can it be a reason why it's bouncing slowly (besides the obvious mispunching and the strength applied)? i didn't inflate it (the supplier did), and i destroyed a new one because of overpressure. what is the right pressure at the feeling of the hand? don't have an adapter to measure my speedbag's pressure!

    -R

  • Awesome, I just started speedbag at my gym 4 days ago. I started pawing at it but now I can keep it fairly straight and bit quicker. They also put up a new speed bag last night!!! I was thinking about buying my own cause it was looking cruddy but they must have seen me hitting it every night. It is hidden, I didn't even know we had one in the gym for 3 months. No heavy bags... =(

  • Great video!!

    Thumbs upp!!!

  • Great video! I'm impressed because not too many people have the same skills they did in their prime. But what I'm most impressed with is... who the heck owned a camcorder back in 79'!

  • @SlumberPM

Television Stations used 1/2 inch Beta Max for news locations. This footage was shot for a Public Service Announcement for the Muscular Dystrophy Association by WRBL in Columbus Ga.

  • @SlumberPM

    Lol bro

  • I haven't been boxing for that long so correct me if I'm wrong but does the speed bag really apply to boxing?

because when you punch in boxing your punches are more longer and drawn out plus your not hit your opponent with the side of your fist.

weather it applies to boxing or not though you still got amazing talent.

  • oh...my...god...

  • wow man ur my hero

  • bagging on an exercise bike looks awesome! gotta try it!

  • Drum and base.............

  • it's the rhythm master I like that go with the song, and the peddling and hitting that was awesome enjoyed the video very much.

  • Alan your the man. I bought your book 8 years ago. I had no idea that when I got it I'd be embarking on a lifelong obcession. Can't thank you enough for writing the book.

    Speed Bag Mike.

  • Awesome, are you hitting to the music in these?

  • Yes, at the end are samples of what I call "Punch Drumming" to music, which is using the bag beat like a drum. It's the most creative way to use the speed bag, especially if you're a drummer.

  • That's an awesome video hope I can be half that great someday and I'll be happy

Also like the stash my father has one and he's the shit also

  • wow ive only seen one other guy that can come near your skills on the speed bag

  • Fair fucking play man ur a legend

  • AMAZING

  • incredible video. Given that I've only just returned to Speedbagging I have to ask, after all these years, has there been any longterm effects (like tennis elbow)?

  • I've had a few surgeries over the years - But I can't blame the speed bag for any one of them.

The most common longterm effect of my speed bag history has been meeting some of the greatest folks on the planet along the way - fellow speedbaggers!

  • I just hit a speed bag for the first time today and fell in love with it. Your the man.

  • THAT IS SO SICK.

  • Just AMAZING! Thanks for the help on all the different technique of hitting the speed bag.

  • I'm glad it has help you and keep punching!

  • this man's heart beats to a rythym..I love this.nothing like it.........2:09 on the bike is the BEST.he could probably hit you 14 times and you not know it

  • most impressive video ive seen of this kind

  • Actually, no. Ghenghis KHAN was the leader of the Mongrol hordes. KHAN was a title, not his actual name.

Alan KAHN shown here is a frustrated drummer just trying to get a workout.

  • Mongrol hordes?

You fucking moron. You don't even know how to spell Mongol and you're trying to criticize someone else?

    Idiot.

  • dude some of the scenes sound like you're playing a beat, great stuff

  • One of the coolest vids I've seen in a while. I do the same thing, do it as a workout, don't know if I will ever try getting in the ring or not.

  • It would be funny if he didn't actually box but just did the speed bag.

  • Than start laughing.... cause that happens to be true. I never boxed. I'm just a frustrated drummer trying to get a workout. Pretty funny, huh?

  • This is Crazy cool... I love hittin mine til i can't bearly pick my arms up anymore and then keep hittin it =)

  • Totally awesome!

  • damn

  • WTF THIS IS INCREDIBLE!

  • Brother you rule!

  • THE WHO!

but then total eclipse of the heart/ ouch

  • Like its a fricking musical instrument.

    Groove on master blaster.

  • this guy is fuckin legit

  • Amazing............................

  • holy sht

  • notice how he got fatter thru the years lol

  • thanks man. any advice from u is greatly appreciated.

  • Your an inspiration for myself and many more. Thank you Alan.

  • just wonderin what 8x5 bag u perfer?

  • lately I've been using the Title Boxing Yellow 8x5 or their "classic" Red 8x5.

  • Thats some might fine, crisp punching Alan. Major kudos to the biggest contributor of speedbag punching in US history! Keep pumpin brah! Showtime

  • whats his name?

  • nice!!!!! keep going, want to see you 80years old and at same speed:DD

  • You look like Paul Orndorff here.

  • I have been using a speed bag for 32 years and I have to say that I'm not real impressed with all the reverse punching he is doing on the bag.

Hitting with the thumb side of your fist is not a good habit to get into. In a real fight, instincts take over, and your hands will have a mind of their own after training with a speed bag. It would be too easy to throw a reverse punch and break your thumb after training like that for so long.

  • post a video of your skills if your better.

  • WanderleiSilva29:

"post a video of your skills if your better."

Read through my post again and point out the line where I said I was better or this guy wasn't any good.

I said that I'm not impressed with the reverse punching as that causes a bad habit which can carry over into a real fight - which is a fact.

I might be a little better than this guy or not & I don't care what you believe as I have no interest in posting videos of myself anywhere just because an asshole like you asks me to.

  • he has found a friend.

  • great timing and though awkward at moments is impressive. I box, pro, and i must say i find some of this useless as a boxer, his use of the bag is entertaining and has mastered a style to it, however for a real boxer i cant say very usefull. nice tho.

  • persistence and patience, that is the name of the game, excelllleeeeentt video, woooow.

  • I was starting to get a little bored of doing the usual basic stuff on my speed bag. I came on here, looked up some videos. This guy blows me away with all the stuff I've been missing. Now I can't get enough. Thanks a million. Best speed bagger I've ever seen.

  • badass!

  • WOW that was awesome i give u props sir. You have mad skills on the bag im gonna try some of those combos. you hit it better than modern day boxers

  • it even SOUNDS good.

  • madddd timing.

  • You're the best! absolutely amazing.

  • God Damn!!!! Dudes Got Skills And I Thought I Was Good. Dude Makes Me Look Like A Pee Wee

  • there is a god

  • Dang look how young he is there look like a buff version of chuck norris!

  • I HAVE BEEN INSPIRED
