"In the second match, the Kenpo representative believes he can still succeed, if he is only a little bit faster and more aggressive." LOL! This striker is seconds, way too slow to thwart off the grappler. He is not fast, he is not powerful in his delivery, nor is he pinpoint accurate and lacks "timing / distance dynamics." He is not a real striker, but only says that he is. Put a "Bruce Lee" type of striker in the ring, and the grappler will have a much harder time, trying to win.
@touretul That instructor representing Kempo, is way too slow, WAAAAY TOOO SLOWWWWW. That is one of many reasons why he is a very poor representative of his sport. Other reasons: His strikes are not explosive , his aim is poor, and he lacks timing / distance dynamics. Sometimes I wonder if the Gracies pit themselves against the worst of strikers, to make themselves look good. You know, BIG FISH in a small pond.
i know that the gracie family isnt the best BUT, they make people look real bad:) lol, they inspired me to do bjj actually or gjj I could say, thanks gracie family much respect.
@kaindrg yes Sakuraba , i like him he is a good fighter but i dont think he ever fought the UFC he is a good fighter but saying he is excellent because he beated the old Royce , beating that Ryan ( he was just a dumb animal ) , or beating Renzo ( he sucks , the only thing he has good is the name Gracie ) So he is a Gracie hunter but will never defeat the best Gracies ( they are not many ) most Gracies are not so good
@Ieatbabyseals I wasnt talking about any Gracies i was talking about Sakuraba , and i dont think Sakuraba ever fought the UFC he is a good fighter but saying he is excellent because he beated the old Royce , beating that Ryan ( he was just a dumb animal ) , or beating Renzo ( he sucks , the only thing he has good is the name Gracie ) So he is a Gracie hunter but will never defeat the best Gracies ( they are not many ) most Gracies are not so good
@VirtuousRebel Not all the Gracies are talented some of them have a good level of dedication , but we all know that their name will not fight for themselves , in every family there is one member diferent from the other , you cant expect all the Gracies to be perfect or undefeated , to be a champion you need to have the potential and to dedicate , not all of them have even the same respect for their legacy or their adversaries
@inearthceo and theodorusable it's how da Gracies market their Art. They' re are not stupid. They' re r not gonna bring in a good Catch wrestler or an Elite Judoka. How the hell they gonna explain how they got neutralized? Not bad on da part of Gracies. However even Bjj can be defeated.
@inEarthCEO really? on the judo episode of human weapon some asian judo master was pretty much trashing bjj saying judo is superior, judo came after bjj, they are 2 different things, etc. and the hosts themselves also said the same thing, not saying ur wrong just saying thats what other people said
@bobbygoo9 Well I don't know why that is... I have a wrestling background and I did a bit of BJJ and beat my buddy who has done 6 years of only judo... On the flip side, I rolled with someone who had done a year of BJJ and a year of judo, and he completely demolished me. I don't think you can just train one art... I really admire judo for its throws and takedowns, it is much more superior to BJJ in that aspect (BJJ takedowns aren't very good at all)... but not in submissions.
@inEarthCEO yeah, those are good points, it just confused me cuz on the episode they had 1 of their guys who used to be a pro mma fighter and good in bjj take on 1 of the judo black belt guys and the judo guy kicked his ass with throws and stuff and the mma guy tried a couple submissions like trinagle and stuff but couldnt even come close to locking em in, it seems to me like bjj is good to use against bigger opponents who try n use their size advantage to dominate
@bobbygoo9 No, I've seen that show too, he's a good MMA fighter, but he lacked BJJ skills... Also, regarding TKD, I've done that as well and after switching to Muay Thai, I realize flawed TKD is.
@inEarthCEO yeah thats true, i mean some of it is cool and useful but a lot of it seems more for showy purposes than actual fighting purposes, like all the jumping and flying and spinning kicks are cool and look sweet and against a real amateur might work but against some1 who knows what theyre doing those kinds of moves would be useless
@inEarthCEO some ppl teach it good tho like 1 guy who was teaching me taught me actual old school moves like knife hand, spear hand, bear hand, tiger hand, etc. vs the guy who was teaching me originally, the original guy was teaching me more like sport stuff and made it more kickboxing than actual tkd
@inEarthCEO but not good against smaller guys who just guys who actually know what their doing, but to each their own i guess, me personally i do taekwondo but against a form of karate like aikido or kenpo or even judo id prolly get demolished
@bobbygoo9 not if you adapt TKD techniques to their weaknesses... try to study all those styles and you'll see how with even TKD or even sport version of karate you may beat them in any fight. Fighting needs studing your opponent, their weaknesses, your weaknesses, advantages and disadvantages... not just showing off the belt of branded martial art. No martial art is ultimate, there can only be ultimate fighter, and thats the one who knows everything, but still that one doesn't exist.
@bobbygoo9 Basically, if you know judo and BJJ, you will probably destroy most bjj opponents... Judo + BJJ is a deadly combo... but just Judo alone?.. no, I'm not convinced...
@bobbygoo9 actually bjj pretty much came from judo/jiujitsu, the dude that came over to brazil and thought the gracies was a judoka, he pretty much just thought them judo and they later made it their own.
@omgstoptakingnames oh, that sounds logical, i wasn't doubting that judo and bjj are related or anything, i was just saying like thats what the people from the tv show were saying but thanks 4 clearing that up
@LopezAlehandro too true why get involved with all the choking and ass riding just punch the apple hit the nuts follow through with an elbow back of the head, job done.
@SuperOwni Since you're slow on the uptake, I'll explain it for you. The reason he didn't defend himself is because he didn't have the opportunity, he was controlled the entire time. Just like most singular martial arts styles that do not put emphasize on developing grappling as part of it's defense.
@samoanpunch since you are stupid let me tell you please master : the gay kempo guy false black belt didn't even put his guard and move. GAME OVER. He is a fake black belt , probably a true jjb black belt friend of the other jjb fighter to provome jjb BUT ...JJB IS NOT TODAY WHAT HE WAS.Now, keep dreaming !
@SuperOwni Wrong! Kenpo is utter BS & impractical, go get any Kenpo guy in a REAL fight and see how much of his BS flashy stuff he can actually use! Look at Kenpo guys sparring all that BS goes out the window and they just look like basic kickboxers. I drop my underpants & fart fiercely in your general direction, your ignorance is apalling poopy pants!
carlsongracieteam: How about you shut up, you dont have to read what we type below, that is your choice, so what we type below does not effect nor does it obstruct the view of this video, so get over your self and learn to respect other peoples opinions even if you do not agree, and just focus on the the video if you do not want to participate you little whining baby.
@theodorusable Yeah, and especial Royce Gracie really got fucked up where they threw in the towel, he got punched and kicked all over the place not to mention dragged around too which was funny.
@theodorusable I don't really know why you're making this point about gracie's, the video was about kenpo vs bjj... Sakuraba trained in wrestling as well as submission wrestling... So he was quite adept at the ground game.
@inEarthCEO oh come on man. it's not really about kenpo vs bjj, it's about...hmm what did they call? oh yea, legendary "Gracie challenge". legendary my ass, even Helio got fucked up by Kimura
@blahblahfuckinblable Your missing my point i put it that way because you said mma and bjj are superior and with the """" superior style that you say that is all you need to win, my point was there are a lot to think about just because you train in styles that you feel are superior, there are lots of factors that contribute to victory, to me as ive said there is no superior style but a superior person makes the style work.
because for me i did not like kung fu, but i went to a really good school and some of those guys where awesome and effective at what they did, so i found my fit, all im saying with hard work and the love of what your doing and dedication, whether it is bjj - boxing karate mma what have you, any of those and others can save your butt one day and any of those may not depending on the dedication.
blahblahfuckinblable it just works for me, and for myself i need to try first before i make an Opinion about it, i liked the bjj school i went to, but i enjoy striking, at the end of the day if you can not truly enjoy it, then why do it, and also i still like to practice the other styles i love kick boxing and just love boxing in general, but again, at of all the ma schools ive been to and there is a lot because half of them was crap so i moved i ve learned that the person makes the style
blahblahfuckinblable for me i had some "street" fights ive done kickboxing to kung fu to tae kwon do aikido and to much to list and many styles of karate currently i been doing isshinryu for the past 8 years, and have done some bjj, which i liked all of them, they all taught me something, with all styles i keep what works for my body style etc.. and throw away what dont work for me, for you maybe mma or just plain bjj works for you, which is great, again I DONT THINK KARATE IS THE BEST
blahblahfuckinblable wrestlers and grapplers are great martial artist, TIMING IS NOT A KARATE THING, its a wrestler thing and a grapplers thing aswell, lets say you have two grapplers the one that times the other better will be able to take him to the ground or submit him, i have respect of all arts, i just get tired of others saying one thing is great and everything else sucks and without having experienced alot.
blahblahfuckinblable All i see in the video is, the better fighter won, not the better style won, im no expert in street fights, but i did have my share 4 i did not
make up any street fight scenario and never said bjj or mma is not good for street, all i am simply saying is its the person that wins fight and styles are just tools. ps i dont like to try to find your post so it is faster this way to reply.
do that in a SPORT, when you compete in sports it should be fun and because you enjoy it, some of guys in mma are just out for blood period and have anger issues, but there are some that dont, so some tma guys dont compete in that sport because they dont want to pound someones face on the mat for other peoples enjoyment.
you dont have to be that crazy, you dont have to do that to stop a fight you hit em to the ground and walk away you dont have to jump on top of them and hit them some more, although some people out of angry would do that no problem, i dont feel you need to be taught to do that or use it in a SPORT because in the street fight there is a place for those phycos... JAIL, you should want to stop your attacker not dismember there face, i would not do that on the street so why would i want to
To blahblahfuckinblabl: "we'd see alot more TMA guys in mma" One more thing with this commit, not everyone likes to sit on someones groin and punch them in the face, because in the Sport of mma that is what you have to do, and just because some TMA guys dont do it, its because they feel martial arts is for self defence and dont want to compete in such a blood sport, for me there is no honor in pounding someone to the ground and not everyone has the stomach for that, even in a real fight
im a fan of ALL martial arts including mma, i just happen to choose karate although i have tried LOTSSSS, karate was the best choice for ME, also with that said the SCHOOL you go to makes a HUGE difference because with my experience a crappy school will produce a crappy student, and unfortunately there are alot of them from karate to mma to bjj.
To blahblahfuckinblabl: put it like this, take a track star all around athlete and give him a year of karate, and take a passive nerd that never works out and is a complete book worm and give him a year of mma, the track star would win cause at the end of the day fighting has alot to do with athletics, speed power especial TIMING its the drive the commitment of a person that wins fights and confidence.
To blahblahfuckinblabl: and dont think karate is better than mma and the same with bjj, i feel that the fighter makes the style work and a person should choose a style that they really like and with hard work and dedication they will make it work for them if they make the style their own and let it adapt to there body.
To blahblahfuckinblabl: good on the ground to compete with them because they are very proficient at it, what i learned with all of my fighting experience is TIMING IS EVERYTHING, if you can time someone you cant take them down and the same with striking, so with all that said to compete in the sport of mma you need to be proficient on the ground because some of the people you are fight are and been doing that there whole life, so, i dont thing mma is better than karate and dont think karate ....
To blahblahfuckinblabl: again i will say ANY STYLE WILL WORK ON STREET INCLUDING MMA DEPENDING ON THE PERSON, and not seeing a whole lot of TMA guys in mma proves nothing cause most of mma is a wrestling / BJJ match, and a complete stand up fighter will have to learn some ground to compete with wrestlers... most of the wrestlers in mma are the best of the best did it growing up and in college etc, i think if your going to compete with great wrestlers and bjj guys you need to be good on the groun
To blahblahfuckinblabl: First of all anderson silva Boxing record was 1 win 1 loss, he is a best a Amateur boxer, but your missing my point, and i never said mma wont work on street, again i said its not the style, the fighter makes the style plain street guys that know nothing dont fight like they do in mma, and they also dont fight like karate guys either so you can not compare to reality, i believe you get what you give, and if you give alittle to any style you will get alittle back,
Tma may seem outdated to many but until the other "New Styles" can create a martial art system that doesnt look or have its roots from a TMA Style of Karate or Kung fu please chill out with all the who i better than who, BJJ is father and mother but our so called ineffective martial art.
I have seen it on the other end with striker friends of mine working as bouncer and unless they understood the gift of gab, dudes was giving out 1,2 with biscuits and gravy on the side. Guys leaving the clubs lumped up coimng back in the morning with there friends for payback. Had i given this reply a year ago i would had totally been ranking on you BJJ But i have been training BJJ and teaching them striking Bjj has a lot to offer but it still needs more develop in certain area.
then you maybe be still scrabble with the attacker hopefully in a submission or lock, you better hop his friends arent around because you getting hit up side your hit with a blunt object, now i have worked as a bouncer and i have seen BJJ work beautifully in the club envirnoment non leathal techniques where demostrated and nobody was hurt and the situation was resolved.
Bjj are the new kids on the block and be quiet and wait your turn before you sell yourself like cheap whore like many of my karate kai instructor did in the name of a dollar. As far as it working on the street any sytle, they all have there flaws, Honestly speaking BJJ is better suited to the ring cage environment, Karare is not even doe it can be gear towards the ring. Bjj is not the best on the street, you spending too much time trying to get that single leg or double leg takedown.
Man i hate these video because of these gracie brother promoting there style as the best, yes it is good to be a well rounded martial in all aspect of self defense. What i see here is BBJ guys who were Traditionalist now they learn the Bunkai of the technique took that and made it more adaptable to there enivroment of brazil. Could i be wrong it wouldnt be the first time but where is the stories of written history of BJJ guys whipping ass some hundred years again.
They are always "Look at us we are so good bjj is soo good all of you suck and have wasted ur life doign something else". So arrogant. They have maintained nothing of the original Samurai JJ mentality and spirituality. So primitive.
@blahblahfuckinblable your not getting what im saying im simple saying mma is a sport stick a mma guy in a boxing ring and they WILL BE FUCKING USELESS in that sport scenario
@blahblahfuckinblable bjj it means nothing maybe they have gone to bjj class for years and only go 1 - 2 times a week and do nothing else they will loose, ill say it again....
@blahblahfuckinblable for the average guy, it is not easy to take a person to the ground if you know nothing especially if the other can strike well, even if the train in jui
@blahblahfuckinblable its not hypothetical for me i used karate in a real fight and worked for me, but i train hard, enough with this sport roll on the ground gay crap
@blahblahfuckinblable the style does not make the fighter the fighter makes the style, no style is better than the other and they all have pros and cons Karate has work for me
@blahblahfuckinblable the style does not make the fighter the fighter makes the style, no style is better than the other and they all have pros and cons Karate has work for me
all i can say, karate has saved my butt lots of time with just simple moves, to each there own, some guys like to roll on the floor with other guys, there is a word for that....G??
in a reg fight know its quick real quick like a blink of the eye and its over and maybe just me i dont want to wrap some guy in my crotch and hope im stronger than him to make him pass out.
the fights you see on tv or in a audience is completely sport, in the street it is a lot faster and dont have time to hump a guy on the ground for 10 minutes, those of us that been in a reg fight
the fights you see on tv or in a audience is completely sport, in the street it is a lot faster and dont have time to hump a guy on the ground for 10 minutes, those of us that been in a reg fight
person, the training and hard work and dedication is what counts, and if you keep an open mind and realize that all styles have something good to offer and take what you like and make your own.
a football field, it wont work out for the basketball player same exact thing loose so seeing time and time again TMA loose in mma sport arena means nothing, the style is just a tool and its up to
with boxing rules he would get his head knocked off, not because boxing is better, it is because it is a different sport that the mma guys was not use too, its like a basket ball player going into..
mma is a sport, if a sport karate guy note not traditional karate tries out the sport of mma and looses, it means nothing, lets have a mma guy go in a pro boxing ring with boxing rules......
All i was saying was, its the fighter, not the style, the fighter makes the style superior by hard work and Discipline, dont care what anyone says, mma is just as much of a sport as boxing, and they all have pros and cons just like every style, in the street the average person is not going to drop to his back on purpose and try to put you in a triangle, so they way they fight in mma is not how they fight in the street any style of martial art ANY is effective depending on the person training....
....the best martial art in the world, nothing is better, they are they most effective and blah blah blah out of the 10-15 different martial art schools ive been to with all that is mentioned is different styles the bjj was the only one that was bad mouthing every other style, like i guess if they said it enough they wanted us to believe it, i feel all styles should respect others and realize its not the system that makes the system work its the person and there hard work and discipline.
also, like i said i have been to lots and lots of different martial art school maybe tried like 10 from kung fu to kick boxing although my most experience now is in Isshin Ryu i finally found something that works for me... anyways i went to a gracie bjj school because i feel all systems are great and i like to learn all martial arts...... but with this school and it is one of the best in my area, because i am picky where i train, all i heard from them was they have the best martial art in the
.....LOTS OF MONEY, its all about money the could not care on what works and what does not, the dont care about tradition at all because they take alittle of BJJ and a little of muay thai and a little of boxing and try to make it there own to make lots of money and all is lost when they take tradition out because all you have is a bunch of angry punks looking for blood, all they want to do is hit some one and that is not with martial arts is about.
UFC is just trying to make a franchise and name for them self a brand its just like a mc donalds, the goal is to trash every other system and to make mma seem like a God so that way all people that dont know better will go to a mma school, the obvious goal is to make lots of money and other systems mma are just competitors, like Mc D's vs burger king, so with there good advertising they push there new system like its a God for the people that know nothing and choose what is popular to make....
continued.... are strikes to throat, groin, eyes and knees which you cant use in the sport of mma, when there are weight classes and time to train prior and lots of rules it is just a sport just as much as boxing, most of traditional karate can not be used in mma because of their sport rules, people tend to just want to compare sport karate vs sport mma, but true karate is traditional and was not intended for sport but to simply defend your self.
continued...... to get them to ground by throws and sweeps and a good karate ka has really good balance, all styles has pros and cons, like for me i have taken lots of things and some bjj, and in just plain bjj they dont focus on any strikes and their are lots of rules on how to grab the person, so a bjj guy alone needs a striking system to be effective in sport mma, keep in mind i said sport because that is what it is, street is completely diff. and keep in mind most tradi strikes in karate.
Machida would just fine with just karate because for starters that is what he mainly uses, he uses his distance loves to use the sport karate blitz and loves his front sweeps and karate knees, also most people on dont try to put you in a triangle and dont know what they are doing, so with that said what makes the average person better on the ground then a karate ka, they are not and the stand up things you learn in karate still can apply on the ground especially joint locks and to get them to
They BJJ guy was really good, and the kempo guy really sucked, notice i am talking about the man the the style, the man or should say person makes the style good and effective not the other way around, the bjj guy obviously have more discipline to his art and that is why he beat the kempo guy with ease, he was the better fighter all styles are equal the person makes it effective by hard work and discipline.
@afreiden Wrong..This was not a "fight", nor was this "black belt" representative of a high level martial artist. The Kenpo guy is poor, and the BJJ was elite in his art. You have a mismatch to begin with, not to mention the fact that this encounter no doubt had rules about what was permitted and not permitted.
@rockstarr469 Did this permitted blows to the head while standing up? I think Gracie JiuJitsu is effective but on this Gracie challenges videos i've had the doubt about what the strikers are allowed to do and what not to do.
@MrCanzara do not be so critical of someone's abilities... i found your comment hilarious, but he obviously has more fighting experience than you to just judge his ability off of his professions... he may be a black belt for all you know
@darkerforest a gun is a tool used when you feel threatened by another individual with a weapon... now anyone who brings a gun to a street fight is a coward... if a man is whooping your ass and u whip out the gun, you better kill him, and accept your 25-life sentence... plus its not hard to disarm a man close to you with a pistol... most of them are to affraid to notice that you took his gun and jammed it up his ass
@hawkblade09 then Wanderlei Silva never lost a match? the best way to be an ultimate warrior is to not limit yourself to MMA, most do use the rules in UFC (Pride is better anyways) but to learn what systems adapt to you and how you can execute the strengths of it, and minimize the weaknesses of it...
@MrCanzara To be honest, Bouncer 9 times out of 10 only needs the big mouth, the big gun ho bouncers are being phased out or end up getting charged and lose their job/license. Every now and then a bouncer needs to get physical, but it is always better to be able to talk someone down. As for military guys, depends what branch of the military, but most are just regular people and it is a job to them, nothing special.
I get so sick and tired of these ego maniacs trying to put down traditional systems it`s funny because if people see karate in mma and it works well they well then say o yeah karate it`s so good if they see a good kung fu guy in mma guy they then well say kung fu is good. People can be quite dull the success of each fighter is due to his training and how he fights. If your good at a system you make it work not the system.
@MrCanzara Oh its a sport, no questioning that. And its got stricter on the rules. The rule changing was part of its transition to mainstream entertainment. The original events were deemed barbaric and banned in alot of US states. But it was about abiltiy for the Gracies. They set up the tournament to prove that their style is the dominant martial art, and t was then. But no longer, thigns have changed dramatically.
@MrCanzara i'd allow that rule, Matt hughes could have finished his fights easier when he grounded and pounded both gracie and pereira. Name one good fighter in the UFC today that stuides BJJ only?
@MrCanzara the first 4 UFCs had the lowest quality of fighter of UFC history. The majority of the people had never even fought before. The standard of fighting is obviously so much higher now, anyone can see that. Matt Hughes in his prime in the early UFCs would have killed all.
Not saying Gracie isn't good because he is a BEAST at what he does BUT that other guy seemed like he had no idea what he was doing with his stance for the stand up... It look like he tried to play it cool and not position himself in any way other than standing straight up.
Kempo master's mistake: he tried to resist the force of the take down with his own force, he should have just rolled Royler onto his back and locked in his own choke hold.
A proper choke doesn't target the airway, it targets the carotid arteries. If you are just cutting off someones air supply you could be in for a good 2-3 minute struggle where as if you are cutting off the blood supply to the brain they will be out in 5 seconds or less.
@MisterBoswell Machida has a black belt in BJJ. Without it, he would have been just another Gracie victim. Karate, without a ground game to back it up, is not very effective.
Nope. Wrong. Machida would have never even had to have employed any BJJ. A ground game, without a way to catch the guy and get him to the ground, it not very effective.
ahhh, the good old days when standups believed they were infallible, did the same thing to a lot of them but now they have learned their lesson and learn grappling of some form, its much more difficult today -should we thank the gracies for teaching them or condemn them for taking away our advantage
I hate these videos. They don't do BJJ, The Gracies, or Martial Arts any favors. I mean how do we even know this man is a Kenpo teacher, what his name, rank, etc? To me he looks just like my gardener. :) Do all Gracie challenges have to be on a padded mat? I love Kenpo and BJJ but this video proves nothing other than somebody can post a grainy video on youtube with very little information.
@Tarc5150 what people don't also consider is that the Gracies and Machados live, breath, eat, shit, jujitsu. Is the average person able to put in that much time and dedication? Then again, that may be a false equivalency.
Yes, UFC was sponsored by the Gracies to market themselves. Even today, the Gracie name is considered a mark of distinction. Regardless, it isn't the be-all.
Well said. I'm not hating on the Gracie's or Jiu-Jitsu or anything, the art is good to supplement your training. My issue if any is it's not battle proven, only in sports. For example, Aiki-jitsu or Aikido was used in warfare for 100's of years against men trying to kill each other. Same thing with Kali/Escrima/Arnis. To date Brazil has never been in a war since they created BJJ, yet they keep posting these videos that prove nothing. Best of luck in your training.
@Tarc5150 Thanks, I appreciate it. Ground fighting has its place. As a primary strategy? No, As a mean of ESCAPING to get back on your feet? Sure. Aiki-jitsu was used in warfare. Budo in general was. The problem is presenting the techniques in a way that they can be used. I would learn karate in a blink of someone taught real budo and not empty pantomime. What BJJ has going for it is you are able to go full force on force. And FMA are great. I'd love to live there to train. Wife is fil
I hear you. I've taught two forms of Kempo/Kenpo for over ten years now but I don't do it for a living anymore. I've been mostly focused on FMA/Wing Chun lately since I'm trying become a certified JKD instructor under Dan Inosanto/Daniel Sullivan and I train at OC Aikikai in Santa Ana, CA. I kind of fell in love with Aikido and this school many years ago but I always cross-train. Best of luck.
@Tarc5150 you may find that aiki-jitsu and aikido are not the same thing, true the founder of aikido was trained in aiki-jitsu but it was used for 100's of years in battle as O Sensei did fight against the chinese and did provide advice to the japanese army during 2nd world war that is all. Aiki-jitsu was though no doubt tested in many many decades of war in feudal times.
I agree I just threw in Aiki-jitsu because most people have never heard of it. Everybody knows about Aikido. Both arts weren't that much different. Aiki-jitsu had lots of strikes and more locks/submissions but both are essentially the same. O-Sensei just took out some of extreme violence of the art to be more harmonious with his religious beliefs but it sounds like you know that. Best of luck in your training.
like bruce lee once said being limited to one fighting style is stupid and arrogant. be like water. be able to fight in any situation and condition. but never underestimate a fight that has practiced the same move a 1000 times as royler proved here. it clearly shows that he perfected that take down. be more afraid of the guy that practices the same technique a 1000 times not the fighter that practices 1000 different techniques.
What makes me laugh about this video is that Royler Gracie took this fight very seriously. What makes it even more funnier is that Royler Gracie actually thinks he's doing good. This just proves what level of a fighter he is.
Royler Gracie is fighting a weak bum how can he claim himself any good. Your skill does not show unless its being pushed to the limit. If he tried this with a man with some physical strength Royler Gracie would look like a rag doll. Anyone can do what Royler Gracie did on this video. All you need is a bum that has no fight experience.
bjj seems to be highly effective as long as you are fighting one, unarmed person who has agreed not to tear your eyes out or hit you in the back of the head or in the kidneys. so ... what good is it outside of a sporting context
@ljjvl Depends on the person applying it as with every art. I've met a person who knows bjj and got jumped in the club and wasn't able to apply it. I know another person who got into a fight with 3 people and pretty much snapped each of their limbs instantaneously as soon as he got a hold of them cause he didn't give a fuck. He also trained mma but mainly uses his bjj in a fight.
"bjj seems to be highly effective as long as you are fighting one, unarmed person who has agreed not to tear your eyes out or hit you in the back of the head or in the kidneys"
When would said person have the opportunity to hit a bjj practitioner in the back of the head, aside from weak elbows during the takedown?
As for eye gouging, this guy tried it:
watch?v=mlleDPgmDVM
Lucky for him, the bjj practitioner only broke his arm instead of retaliating with his own eye gouges..
What exactly is your point besides stating the obvious? Of course a gang of thugs or armed person can defeat a BJJ practitioner... And any other fighting discipline in the world. How exactly does that discredit a highly effective martial arts?
@megalon84 BJJ doesn't teach how to fight without rules where there are weapons and groups. Other martial arts would be a lot more effective in these situations because they don't tell you to roll around with 1 person while there's the rest of the world around you coming in for the kill. Standing up with well placed strikes and manipulations would be most effective.
NO art teaches you to be a superman who defeats armed thugs. Most MAs instill false confidence & will get you killed since a real knife attack or fist fight is nothing like the slow choreographed drills they teach. You're defensive, intent on singling out only BJJ as "inferior." Muay thai and BJJ are so popular/effective in MMA because practioners are realistic about what it can do & you learn with live, full-contact sparring and conditioning (not unrealistic drills).
It's also fact most fights go to the ground. Not saying BJJ is THE answer to all, but that only relying on ineffective stand-up is stupid. This ideal situation you envision about how fights go down, prevailing with "well-placed strikes and manipulations"... it never happens. Fights end fast, winner being the guy who lands a strong hook or whoever gets ground control & ground-and-pounds. BJJ isn't real-life brawling, but still far more real and reliable than most arts.
@megalon84 ya fights do go to ground. Whether they're knocked out becuz of well placed strikes or not is the q. I work in a bar and i've been in faarrr more fights where everybody is standing till somebody gets knocked out or till they're manipulated/thrown to ground rather then being tied up. I'm in a MA where they teach strikes, manipulations, throws and i've used it with some proficiency. I've also seen idiots run at people i train with and they just get pommeled becuz they tried to grab him.
@megalon84 ideal situations never happen in real world fights. i haven't had 1 fight where everything was right. In these MA you're taught slowly at first. then you speed it up and become more proficient. It's the way every MA works. Every MA instills false confidence in students. once a guy learns an MA they become cocky and try to use moves when they aren't ready. If somebody came at u in the streets with a knife and u had nowhere to run i'm sure u wud've wanted to learn knife techs then BJJ
@Brock1812 Also mixed martial arts is a sport. You have a padded stage with some give to it and there are sooo many rules to it that you aren't allowed to use a lot of strikes, and manipulations becuz they've been deemed too dangerous to peoples health. That's why BJJ has found a home in MMA. Because it's more safe to use then strikes, pressure points, and some manipulations.
Fight has been won, cue the men in speedos.

Put a "Bruce Lee" type of striker in the ring, and the grappler will have a much harder time, trying to win.

touretul 1 week ago
@touretul That instructor representing Kempo, is way too slow, WAAAAY TOOO SLOWWWWW. That is one of many reasons why he is a very poor representative of his sport. Other reasons: His strikes are not explosive , his aim is poor, and he lacks timing / distance dynamics. Sometimes I wonder if the Gracies pit themselves against the worst of strikers, to make themselves look good. You know, BIG FISH in a small pond.

@inEarthCEO wb by judo? wasnt judo created with the purpose of countering jj?
bobbygoo9 1 week ago
@bobbygoo9 No, Judo only complements JJ... I know several BJJ practitioners that do Judo as well...
inEarthCEO 1 week ago
@inEarthCEO really? on the judo episode of human weapon some asian judo master was pretty much trashing bjj saying judo is superior, judo came after bjj, they are 2 different things, etc. and the hosts themselves also said the same thing, not saying ur wrong just saying thats what other people said
bobbygoo9 1 week ago
@bobbygoo9 Well I don't know why that is... I have a wrestling background and I did a bit of BJJ and beat my buddy who has done 6 years of only judo... On the flip side, I rolled with someone who had done a year of BJJ and a year of judo, and he completely demolished me. I don't think you can just train one art... I really admire judo for its throws and takedowns, it is much more superior to BJJ in that aspect (BJJ takedowns aren't very good at all)... but not in submissions.
inEarthCEO 1 week ago
@inEarthCEO yeah, those are good points, it just confused me cuz on the episode they had 1 of their guys who used to be a pro mma fighter and good in bjj take on 1 of the judo black belt guys and the judo guy kicked his ass with throws and stuff and the mma guy tried a couple submissions like trinagle and stuff but couldnt even come close to locking em in, it seems to me like bjj is good to use against bigger opponents who try n use their size advantage to dominate
bobbygoo9 1 week ago
@bobbygoo9 No, I've seen that show too, he's a good MMA fighter, but he lacked BJJ skills... Also, regarding TKD, I've done that as well and after switching to Muay Thai, I realize flawed TKD is.
inEarthCEO 1 week ago
@inEarthCEO yeah thats true, i mean some of it is cool and useful but a lot of it seems more for showy purposes than actual fighting purposes, like all the jumping and flying and spinning kicks are cool and look sweet and against a real amateur might work but against some1 who knows what theyre doing those kinds of moves would be useless
bobbygoo9 1 week ago
@inEarthCEO some ppl teach it good tho like 1 guy who was teaching me taught me actual old school moves like knife hand, spear hand, bear hand, tiger hand, etc. vs the guy who was teaching me originally, the original guy was teaching me more like sport stuff and made it more kickboxing than actual tkd
bobbygoo9 1 week ago
@inEarthCEO but not good against smaller guys who just guys who actually know what their doing, but to each their own i guess, me personally i do taekwondo but against a form of karate like aikido or kenpo or even judo id prolly get demolished
bobbygoo9 1 week ago
@bobbygoo9 not if you adapt TKD techniques to their weaknesses... try to study all those styles and you'll see how with even TKD or even sport version of karate you may beat them in any fight. Fighting needs studing your opponent, their weaknesses, your weaknesses, advantages and disadvantages... not just showing off the belt of branded martial art. No martial art is ultimate, there can only be ultimate fighter, and thats the one who knows everything, but still that one doesn't exist.
eXtremeArtsStudio 1 week ago
@bobbygoo9 Basically, if you know judo and BJJ, you will probably destroy most bjj opponents... Judo + BJJ is a deadly combo... but just Judo alone?.. no, I'm not convinced...
inEarthCEO 1 week ago
@bobbygoo9 actually bjj pretty much came from judo/jiujitsu, the dude that came over to brazil and thought the gracies was a judoka, he pretty much just thought them judo and they later made it their own.

IsshinTigerMatt 3 weeks ago
blahblahfuckinblable it just works for me, and for myself i need to try first before i make an Opinion about it, i liked the bjj school i went to, but i enjoy striking, at the end of the day if you can not truly enjoy it, then why do it, and also i still like to practice the other styles i love kick boxing and just love boxing in general, but again, at of all the ma schools ive been to and there is a lot because half of them was crap so i moved i ve learned that the person makes the style
IsshinTigerMatt 3 weeks ago
blahblahfuckinblable for me i had some "street" fights ive done kickboxing to kung fu to tae kwon do aikido and to much to list and many styles of karate currently i been doing isshinryu for the past 8 years, and have done some bjj, which i liked all of them, they all taught me something, with all styles i keep what works for my body style etc.. and throw away what dont work for me, for you maybe mma or just plain bjj works for you, which is great, again I DONT THINK KARATE IS THE BEST
IsshinTigerMatt 3 weeks ago
blahblahfuckinblable wrestlers and grapplers are great martial artist, TIMING IS NOT A KARATE THING, its a wrestler thing and a grapplers thing aswell, lets say you have two grapplers the one that times the other better will be able to take him to the ground or submit him, i have respect of all arts, i just get tired of others saying one thing is great and everything else sucks and without having experienced alot.
IsshinTigerMatt 3 weeks ago
blahblahfuckinblable All i see in the video is, the better fighter won, not the better style won, im no expert in street fights, but i did have my share 4 i did not
make up any street fight scenario and never said bjj or mma is not good for street, all i am simply saying is its the person that wins fight and styles are just tools. ps i dont like to try to find your post so it is faster this way to reply.
IsshinTigerMatt 3 weeks ago
blahblahfuckinblable my point was the style alone did not ensure victory.
IsshinTigerMatt 3 weeks ago
do that in a SPORT, when you compete in sports it should be fun and because you enjoy it, some of guys in mma are just out for blood period and have anger issues, but there are some that dont, so some tma guys dont compete in that sport because they dont want to pound someones face on the mat for other peoples enjoyment.
IsshinTigerMatt 3 weeks ago
you dont have to be that crazy, you dont have to do that to stop a fight you hit em to the ground and walk away you dont have to jump on top of them and hit them some more, although some people out of angry would do that no problem, i dont feel you need to be taught to do that or use it in a SPORT because in the street fight there is a place for those phycos... JAIL, you should want to stop your attacker not dismember there face, i would not do that on the street so why would i want to
IsshinTigerMatt 3 weeks ago
To blahblahfuckinblabl: "we'd see alot more TMA guys in mma" One more thing with this commit, not everyone likes to sit on someones groin and punch them in the face, because in the Sport of mma that is what you have to do, and just because some TMA guys dont do it, its because they feel martial arts is for self defence and dont want to compete in such a blood sport, for me there is no honor in pounding someone to the ground and not everyone has the stomach for that, even in a real fight
IsshinTigerMatt 3 weeks ago
im a fan of ALL martial arts including mma, i just happen to choose karate although i have tried LOTSSSS, karate was the best choice for ME, also with that said the SCHOOL you go to makes a HUGE difference because with my experience a crappy school will produce a crappy student, and unfortunately there are alot of them from karate to mma to bjj.
IsshinTigerMatt 3 weeks ago
To blahblahfuckinblabl: put it like this, take a track star all around athlete and give him a year of karate, and take a passive nerd that never works out and is a complete book worm and give him a year of mma, the track star would win cause at the end of the day fighting has alot to do with athletics, speed power especial TIMING its the drive the commitment of a person that wins fights and confidence.
IsshinTigerMatt 3 weeks ago
To blahblahfuckinblabl: and dont think karate is better than mma and the same with bjj, i feel that the fighter makes the style work and a person should choose a style that they really like and with hard work and dedication they will make it work for them if they make the style their own and let it adapt to there body.
IsshinTigerMatt 3 weeks ago
To blahblahfuckinblabl: good on the ground to compete with them because they are very proficient at it, what i learned with all of my fighting experience is TIMING IS EVERYTHING, if you can time someone you cant take them down and the same with striking, so with all that said to compete in the sport of mma you need to be proficient on the ground because some of the people you are fight are and been doing that there whole life, so, i dont thing mma is better than karate and dont think karate ....
IsshinTigerMatt 3 weeks ago
To blahblahfuckinblabl: again i will say ANY STYLE WILL WORK ON STREET INCLUDING MMA DEPENDING ON THE PERSON, and not seeing a whole lot of TMA guys in mma proves nothing cause most of mma is a wrestling / BJJ match, and a complete stand up fighter will have to learn some ground to compete with wrestlers... most of the wrestlers in mma are the best of the best did it growing up and in college etc, i think if your going to compete with great wrestlers and bjj guys you need to be good on the groun
IsshinTigerMatt 3 weeks ago
To blahblahfuckinblabl: First of all anderson silva Boxing record was 1 win 1 loss, he is a best a Amateur boxer, but your missing my point, and i never said mma wont work on street, again i said its not the style, the fighter makes the style plain street guys that know nothing dont fight like they do in mma, and they also dont fight like karate guys either so you can not compare to reality, i believe you get what you give, and if you give alittle to any style you will get alittle back,
IsshinTigerMatt 3 weeks ago
Tma may seem outdated to many but until the other "New Styles" can create a martial art system that doesnt look or have its roots from a TMA Style of Karate or Kung fu please chill out with all the who i better than who, BJJ is father and mother but our so called ineffective martial art.

IsshinTigerMatt 3 weeks ago
continued.... are strikes to throat, groin, eyes and knees which you cant use in the sport of mma, when there are weight classes and time to train prior and lots of rules it is just a sport just as much as boxing, most of traditional karate can not be used in mma because of their sport rules, people tend to just want to compare sport karate vs sport mma, but true karate is traditional and was not intended for sport but to simply defend your self.
IsshinTigerMatt 3 weeks ago
continued...... to get them to ground by throws and sweeps and a good karate ka has really good balance, all styles has pros and cons, like for me i have taken lots of things and some bjj, and in just plain bjj they dont focus on any strikes and their are lots of rules on how to grab the person, so a bjj guy alone needs a striking system to be effective in sport mma, keep in mind i said sport because that is what it is, street is completely diff. and keep in mind most tradi strikes in karate.
IsshinTigerMatt 3 weeks ago

IsshinTigerMatt 3 weeks ago
so the kenpo instructor goes after him the same way twice. lol

Looks to me like he beat the kenpo guy in a fight...
afreiden 4 weeks ago
@afreiden Wrong..This was not a "fight", nor was this "black belt" representative of a high level martial artist. The Kenpo guy is poor, and the BJJ was elite in his art. You have a mismatch to begin with, not to mention the fact that this encounter no doubt had rules about what was permitted and not permitted.
rockstarr469 4 weeks ago
@rockstarr469 Did this permitted blows to the head while standing up? I think Gracie JiuJitsu is effective but on this Gracie challenges videos i've had the doubt about what the strikers are allowed to do and what not to do.

@MrCanzara do not be so critical of someone's abilities... i found your comment hilarious, but he obviously has more fighting experience than you to just judge his ability off of his professions... he may be a black belt for all you know

Oh stop already with all the "what's better" crap-
You want to see what will work on the street EVERY TIME?
Look up what's illegal on UFC.
You want to see what will work even more times than that?
Bring a gun.
End of story.
darkerforest 1 month ago
@darkerforest a gun is a tool used when you feel threatened by another individual with a weapon... now anyone who brings a gun to a street fight is a coward... if a man is whooping your ass and u whip out the gun, you better kill him, and accept your 25-life sentence... plus its not hard to disarm a man close to you with a pistol... most of them are to affraid to notice that you took his gun and jammed it up his ass

Muay thai + BJJ = MMA Ultimate Fighter.
hawkblade09 1 month ago

But no longer, thigns have changed dramatically.
alfiejames8 1 month ago
@MrCanzara i'd allow that rule, Matt hughes could have finished his fights easier when he grounded and pounded both gracie and pereira. Name one good fighter in the UFC today that stuides BJJ only?
alfiejames8 1 month ago
@MrCanzara the first 4 UFCs had the lowest quality of fighter of UFC history. The majority of the people had never even fought before. The standard of fighting is obviously so much higher now, anyone can see that. Matt Hughes in his prime in the early UFCs would have killed all.
alfiejames8 1 month ago
Not saying Gracie isn't good because he is a BEAST at what he does BUT that other guy seemed like he had no idea what he was doing with his stance for the stand up... It look like he tried to play it cool and not position himself in any way other than standing straight up.
pussylicker24 1 month ago
Kempo master's mistake: he tried to resist the force of the take down with his own force, he should have just rolled Royler onto his back and locked in his own choke hold.
cheesemonkey1990 1 month ago
@cheesemonkey1990 The only he he was a master of was falling down and getting choked out.
HYBRIDCOMBATIVES 1 month ago
A proper choke doesn't target the airway, it targets the carotid arteries. If you are just cutting off someones air supply you could be in for a good 2-3 minute struggle where as if you are cutting off the blood supply to the brain they will be out in 5 seconds or less.

MisterBoswell 1 month ago 5
@MisterBoswell Machida has a black belt in BJJ. Without it, he would have been just another Gracie victim. Karate, without a ground game to back it up, is not very effective.
ZaikaZaikaZaika 3 weeks ago
@ZaikaZaikaZaika
Nope.

TheSilatiger 1 month ago
I hate these videos. They don't do BJJ, The Gracies, or Martial Arts any favors. I mean how do we even know this man is a Kenpo teacher, what his name, rank, etc? To me he looks just like my gardener. :) Do all Gracie challenges have to be on a padded mat? I love Kenpo and BJJ but this video proves nothing other than somebody can post a grainy video on youtube with very little information.
Tarc5150 1 month ago
@Tarc5150 what people don't also consider is that the Gracies and Machados live, breath, eat, shit, jujitsu. Is the average person able to put in that much time and dedication? Then again, that may be a false equivalency.
Yes, UFC was sponsored by the Gracies to market themselves. Even today, the Gracie name is considered a mark of distinction. Regardless, it isn't the be-all.

@TheLimivorous
Tarc5150 1 month ago
@Tarc5150 Thanks, I appreciate it. Ground fighting has its place. As a primary strategy? No, As a mean of ESCAPING to get back on your feet? Sure. Aiki-jitsu was used in warfare. Budo in general was. The problem is presenting the techniques in a way that they can be used. I would learn karate in a blink of someone taught real budo and not empty pantomime. What BJJ has going for it is you are able to go full force on force. And FMA are great. I'd love to live there to train. Wife is fil

@TheLimivorous
Tarc5150 1 month ago
@Tarc5150 you may find that aiki-jitsu and aikido are not the same thing, true the founder of aikido was trained in aiki-jitsu but it was used for 100's of years in battle as O Sensei did fight against the chinese and did provide advice to the japanese army during 2nd world war that is all. Aiki-jitsu was though no doubt tested in many many decades of war in feudal times.
ironbuddha1008 1 month ago
@ironbuddha1008
Tarc5150 1 month ago
like bruce lee once said being limited to one fighting style is stupid and arrogant. be like water. be able to fight in any situation and condition. but never underestimate a fight that has practiced the same move a 1000 times as royler proved here. it clearly shows that he perfected that take down. be more afraid of the guy that practices the same technique a 1000 times not the fighter that practices 1000 different techniques.
samjs721 1 month ago
What makes me laugh about this video is that Royler Gracie took this fight very seriously. What makes it even more funnier is that Royler Gracie actually thinks he's doing good. This just proves what level of a fighter he is.
Desert2Crow 1 month ago
Royler Gracie is fighting a weak bum how can he claim himself any good. Your skill does not show unless its being pushed to the limit. If he tried this with a man with some physical strength Royler Gracie would look like a rag doll. Anyone can do what Royler Gracie did on this video. All you need is a bum that has no fight experience.

bjj seems to be highly effective as long as you are fighting one, unarmed person who has agreed not to tear your eyes out or hit you in the back of the head or in the kidneys. so ... what good is it outside of a sporting context
ljjvl 2 months ago 3

Lucky for him, the bjj practitioner only broke his arm instead of retaliating with his own eye gouges..
afreiden 2 months ago
@Brock1812
What exactly is your point besides stating the obvious? Of course a gang of thugs or armed person can defeat a BJJ practitioner... And any other fighting discipline in the world. How exactly does that discredit a highly effective martial arts?
megalon84 3 months ago
@megalon84 BJJ doesn't teach how to fight without rules where there are weapons and groups. Other martial arts would be a lot more effective in these situations because they don't tell you to roll around with 1 person while there's the rest of the world around you coming in for the kill. Standing up with well placed strikes and manipulations would be most effective.
Brock1812 3 months ago 2
@Brock1812
NO art teaches you to be a superman who defeats armed thugs. Most MAs instill false confidence & will get you killed since a real knife attack or fist fight is nothing like the slow choreographed drills they teach. You're defensive, intent on singling out only BJJ as "inferior." Muay thai and BJJ are so popular/effective in MMA because practioners are realistic about what it can do & you learn with live, full-contact sparring and conditioning (not unrealistic drills).
megalon84 2 months ago
@Brock1812
BJJ isn't real-life brawling, but still far more real and reliable than most arts.
megalon84 2 months ago
@megalon84 ya fights do go to ground. Whether they're knocked out becuz of well placed strikes or not is the q. I work in a bar and i've been in faarrr more fights where everybody is standing till somebody gets knocked out or till they're manipulated/thrown to ground rather then being tied up. I'm in a MA where they teach strikes, manipulations, throws and i've used it with some proficiency. I've also seen idiots run at people i train with and they just get pommeled becuz they tried to grab him.
Brock1812 2 months ago
@megalon84 ideal situations never happen in real world fights. i haven't had 1 fight where everything was right. In these MA you're taught slowly at first. then you speed it up and become more proficient. It's the way every MA works. Every MA instills false confidence in students. once a guy learns an MA they become cocky and try to use moves when they aren't ready. If somebody came at u in the streets with a knife and u had nowhere to run i'm sure u wud've wanted to learn knife techs then BJJ
Brock1812 2 months ago
@Brock1812 Also mixed martial arts is a sport. You have a padded stage with some give to it and there are sooo many rules to it that you aren't allowed to use a lot of strikes, and manipulations becuz they've been deemed too dangerous to peoples health. That's why BJJ has found a home in MMA. Because it's more safe to use then strikes, pressure points, and some manipulations.
