For a woman to say why she isn't a feminist takes diligence, b/c many people don't understand the roots of feminism and where it is now. I appreciate women's suffrage, even though the marches were for the rights of White women, they did what they could for that time. As I have gotten older, I see that the 2nd & 3rd wave eras of feminism hold a dogma of corruption and perversion that young women easily overlook, and don't see until they stand back, that I find to be completely backwards.
I'm not a feminist. It's not because I'm uneducated about or ignorant about it. Its not because I don't care. I care deeply on this particular subject. I, as a woman of color, can not take feminism seriously. I'm embarrassed by modern feminism and it is a slap in the face to me as a Black woman. Why is the feminist movt is still active? Sexism, just like racism, will always be exists, but the civil rights & abolitionist movt. are no longer active for a reason. Women have advanced greatly.
Of course, there are men that hate the idea of a feminist woman or strong woman in general. The day women refused to stay in the kitchen men began shaking with fear. I find it laughable. I choose freedom over submission. I am not a man-hater. I love men - men with open minds and that are forward thinking. Yeah, I hate men who expect women to follow simply because we have vaginas and they have penises.
Call me crazy, but as a woman I rather stay single than deal with a man that thinks a penis gives him power over me. I am not a feminist. I am a woman with certain views about male and female relationships and my views have been shaped by the treatment of women throughout history by men. I rebel against that history that still continues today.

Very very nicely said! I completely agree with you. Luckily I am with someone who is also a feminist (yes a guy). I talk about feminist issues with guys and it doesn't go well but I do not ever get the kind of responses that I do on youtube. Then I realize why there are very little feminists on here...at least very little that are outwardly identifying as feminists.

@bahamutkod Not everyone is going to agree with the view of feminists but its about respecting others' opinions. To be honest, I think everyone is a little pro-their own race. We've all been condition to stick together. Just because you're pro-something doesn't mean you're anti-something else. I love and respect men while still being pro-black women.
I think where the problem is coming ,is that African American women do not have the same challenges as White women do when dealing with their relationships. Black women are confused as to what their purpose is as women. Both should be about family. Not themselves. Thank you for addressing this issue. Many heterosexual cisgender black males and females think of feminism as a "white thing," much in the way many think that homosexuality is a "white thing." There are many black feminists who fight for the equality of black and other women of color. Much like there LGBT individuals in the black community (myself included) who fight for black issues and LGBT issues. The same applies to black non-theists and other black social lepers. I have to disagree with you. I think feminism IS about power and I think white feminists want to drive. They don't want YOU to drive the car, they want to share the power structure with white men (see Hilary, Steinem, Ferrarro in the Presidential campaign). For a woman to say why she isn't a feminist takes diligence, b/c many people don't understand the roots of feminism and where it is now. I appreciate women's suffrage, even though the marches were for the rights of White women, they did what they could for that time. As I have gotten older, I see that the 2nd & 3rd wave eras of feminism hold a dogma of corruption and perversion that young women easily overlook, and don't see until they stand back, that I find to be completely backwards.

I'm not a feminist. It's not because I'm uneducated about or ignorant about it. Its not because I don't care. I care deeply on this particular subject. I, as a woman of color, can not take feminism seriously. I'm embarrassed by modern feminism and it is a slap in the face to me as a Black woman. Why is the feminist movt is still active? Sexism, just like racism, will always be exists, but the civil rights & abolitionist movt. are no longer active for a reason. Women have advanced greatly.

Of course, there are men that hate the idea of a feminist woman or strong woman in general. The day women refused to stay in the kitchen men began shaking with fear. I find it laughable. Thank you for addressing this issue. Many heterosexual cisgender black males and females think of feminism as a "white thing," much in the way many think that homosexuality is a "white thing." There are many black feminists who fight for the equality of black and other women of color. Much like there LGBT individuals in the black community (myself included) who fight for black issues and LGBT issues. The same applies to black non-theists and other black social lepers. I have to disagree with you. I think feminism IS about power and I think white feminists want to drive. The Rockefeller family were the benefactors of the feminist movement. Their aim was not to promote equality but obtain more profit. @TheGoddessNetworks, I respect you comments. If black women left the black church, there would be no black church. Black men have no power in this country over anyone and never have. They have been historically fighting for the same freedoms as black women have. If black men were crying out against BET and Rape as you say they don't, would that end the need for feminism? I think that what you you are representing is disappointment that men have not taken their place as leader in your eyes.

A question for black men like Nat is this, do you really value freedom and equality for all blacks or just for black men? The only time you really want to say black first is when you want to fight against racial inequality, other than that you say black MAN first and want to keep gender inequality and a gender hierarchy within the black community. The hierarchy was,White man-woman, then black man-woman. You only have a problem with whites being on top of the hierarchy, none with you over women

I'm not accusing black men of burning white women alive. Did I call you racist? No. Feminism is about equality for all people not just one race, one gender. We live in a racist, sexist, patriarchal society and it's hurting everybody. This is what MY feminism addresses. But like the woman said in this video, there are MANY types of feminism. That said, I'm a radical/Socialist feminist. This means that I'm against patriarchy and capitalism.

Excuse me? Women FOUGHT together on CIVIL RIGHTS for ALL. You need some serious teaching about that. Also, you have NO understanding of my culture OR my history. I'm not going to play oppression olympics with you. I highly suggest you revisit Civil Rights in the early 20th century. What you find may surprise the hell out of you.

@NatTurnerlsAlive: Where did you get your info about black women choosing women of other races before black men? If you heard what she said at the beginning, there are more black women on YT bashing feminism than there are supporting, I cant go off stats but, that says something.
I hope you are not using the high rates of single black women (which the media is exploiting) to support your claim. Because there are two sides to that. The problem can't totally be black women. I'm just saying

The only man that comes first in my eyes is Jesus Christ. I can't speak for all black feminists but the pride I have in being a woman and being Black are very much equal. One does not trump the other and there is no hierarchy.
