Back in the old UFC, Tank understood that you can throw harder punches while wearing gloves. His opponent on the second fight was more interested in sliding in a choke. I wish they allowed fighters to go bare hand in today's UFC.

@Sup3rShann0n brock and shane aren't benching close to 600 lb. or curling 150 lb. dumbbells, more like benching 420 max , Tank could rep out 550 x 6, Lesnar and Carwin could maybe cheat curl 100 lb. dumbbells 5 times in each arm, Abbott could do 140 x 5, Abbott was a better weight lifter than he was a fighter , in fighting all he did was throw fists he had no submission game,freestyle wrestling or grappling and terrible cardio

@robroy122 Honestly dude, i could give a fuck about Tank. I respect that he was 1 of the UFCs original fixtures, but in todays MMA world, he's completely irrelevant. I also really don't care about how much any1 in the UFC benches, because it'sn't important at all, but I read in Mens Health that Brock benches 475 twice w/no chest plate. Carwin's been power-lifting since he was a kid, & elite wrestlers are notorious for upper body & core strength. I'm willing to bet his max rep's in the high 500s

@Sup3rShann0n i seriously doubt Carwin could bench in the high 500's , Tank has done 600lb. for reps raw, neither Carwin or Lesnar could dumbbell curl 115's for a rep or two maybe with wrists turned, Tank Abbott did 150 x 4 reps in each arm in good form, but it's a mixed martial arts contest not a dumbbell curling contest

You think Tank could run the 40 in 4.7 secs, go 106-5 in the 285lb division & win the NCAA national wrestling champ, have a 35 inch vertical, win the UFC HW title after only 4 pro fights? Sure he's strong, & against below average fighters he's a killer, but against super athletes training 4 hours a day 6 & 7 days a week perfecting every aspect of their game, he's a joke. He's a perfect before/after e.g. of just how far the sport's come since the early UFC. I'm not hating/putting em' down, i'm simply proving that he'd never make it past the bottom rung HWs

Sure if abbot went back in time and trained for several years, that combined with his power might make him something special, but the dude hits hard. That's it. He's not good on the ground, he doesn't have takedown defense, he's not a good boxer. He just hits hard.

Even tank in his prime wouldn't last a round in the ufc with the ATHLETES of today's mixed martial arts scene. Even guys like dos Santos and carwin who would stand and trade punches with him would pick him apart and flick him off like belly button lint. This guys a local toughman competition winner at best, not an ultimate fighter
