Who knows what actually happened amongst this crowd,but there were alot of bum notes coming thru on this particular song,i've seen ryan play live regularly,whether here or in the flesh an he doesn't do bum notes! I think the other 2 wanted to throw in a few tasty bits here an there and nearly derailed the tune in parts! Not kool,either way...dont give your ball away next time ryan...
Totally 100% about what you're saying folks. Neil's an amazing composer and maybe was blown away etc. I think Ryan is incredibly personal musically sometimes and it might seem difficult. Super stuff - who are we to say anything other than the fact that these guys are brilliant? Really enjoying Ashes and Fire at the moment btw
l love both Neil and Ryan and if you look at Neil's face throughout this performance it is clear, to me at least, that Neil is really moved by Ryan's song. I don't think Neil's playing affects the song at all and maybe it was just one of those days when things happened to cause irritation. It happens to us all from time to time. Thanks for uploading.
I'm a huge fan of Ryan, and as there is no video evidence of what supposedly went on, i think its better to just get on with the performances we've got?? And to criticise neil finn is a bit overblown as lets be honest he has wrote some belting tunes too.
Great to hear someone talk some sense. It is a good concert with some great performances. Maybe it is down to the editing ability of the BBC that we can ignore any tensions if they existed. Most people seem to like it and that is good enough for me.
Amazing how Finn's input was completely out of context, being only a series of cliche riffs. One of the last ones he did was completely in the wrong place. He seemed to be desperate to take over Ryan's song, the way his hand was moving back and forth along the fretboard trying to get in there. Ryan's restraint was to be applauded. I have never liked the songwriter's circle program; it makes me nervous for the participants for some reason. too bad it happened for everyone.

I think Neil was moved by Ryan's performace and played what he played with respect and a gut reaction, regardless of whether his choice of notes was ill timed. Ryan, was on fire and I just feel that the intensity of the day/night caused a tiny issue that has now passed by. We all get uptight now and again.
As much as I love Ryan's music, the dude really needs to stop with the diva nonsense. If he did not want to participate with the other two, then he should have politely declined the invite to be on the show. It's not hard to be nice, Ryan. You are sitting next to two amazing songwriters who deserved the respect they were trying to give to you. How rude of you to pack it up while they were finishing the set.
This is a real atmosphere inducing timeless song. Some shades of the old classic Neil Young I think at times.I'd heard of this guy before but thanks to this & some of his other stuff you've been kind enough to post here, I'll be keeping an eye on him.
