  • whoever disliked this video of a great man's funeral is an IDIOT!!

  • Real hero, but also a real bigot

  • GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!

  • Col. Ripley is the saint of the Marine Corps

  • RIP Col. Ripley. A great Marine! The trucks the NVA were using to convoy troops and munitions were Fords - made in a Soviet factory designed and built by the Ford Motor Company. The fuel that powered them came from Soviet oil fields developed by American interests with close ties to the Rockefeller oil cartel. Before any military action in Viet Nam could occur the US cleared it through the UN - whose military deputy was a Soviet General....

  • I met Col Ripely twice. Once was in Wisconsin during cold weather training and the second was at a book signing the following year. He was a good man and a real Marine.

  • We few, we happy few, we Eternal Band of Brothers!!!

Eternal Rest Grant Him O Lord, And Let Perpetual Light Shine Upon Him. May He And All The Faithful Departed, Through Your Mercy And Grace, Rest In Peace…Amen

  • All I can say is WOW... this was beautifil

  • A Great Marine, Catholic or not. Hooyah, Colonel.

  • I am a Ripley that grew up 30 miles from John's family (our dad's were brothers). As a fifth grader I was with John on his first day at the Academy, I was in Radford, Va. for his wedding, I was at 8th & I the night he received his Navy Cross, and I was at his funeral. I ask you to please read Ride The Thunder. Ride The Thunder is the truth about a good man who was a great Marine. Ride the Thunder is also filled with the heroic exploits of many other Marines in Vietnam. RIP Col.

  • Beautiful clip, filmed well. 'Gorgeously sad', could be a movie about the Marine Corps.

I met him a few times, he seemed well when I saw him last. THere is a great shrine to him in Smoke hall.

My God how sad this funeral was.

  • May you rest in peace COL. I salute you.

  • A book was just published about Col Ripley. It's called An American Knight. It is highly recommended.

  • Read the book Ride the Thunder if you want to know more about this man.

  • salute to you colonol....

  • Because those guys are Marines!

  • My Grandfather was class of '62 along with Col. Ripley at the Naval Academy. He knew him well.

From what I've heard about him, he was a great Marine who truly embodied all the ideals of the Marine Core and the Naval Academy.

  • a great hero indeed. When I become a Marine MP, I wan't to follow his example.

  • Once Marine, forever Marine...

  • Semper Fidelis.

  • rest in peace sir

  • Semper Fi, Sir. Rest in peace, brother.

  • We live today in a world where everything that is worth to be remembered is said to be bad

Bad things happen, people do wrong things, but does that give anyone the right to blame a whole system to be mistaken?

    No.

That's why I would like to say thank you, not even for a national hero from a for me foreign country, but specially for the reason behind his understanding how to serve his country, it's people lead by his strong believe in the teachings of the church!

Thank you and god bless you!

  • It is good to see that some countries on earth still honor their heros with the respect they deserve for their duties!

I am from Austria. We used to have a great army with lots of men like Col. Ripley. Just this days a military report posted that the combat force of Austria is down to 6500 men and women who serve our nation.

Remember your heros and do not let anybody take away their will to do the right thing!

  • With deepest and most sincere gratitude. Thank you Colonel Ripley for your service and sacrifice. God bless. Semper Fi. Fair Winds and Following Seas.

    Thanks TFP for posting.

  • I saw Colonel Ripley, 2 weeks before his death... my bro (usna midshipman) had the honor of dinning with him

  • And another great warrior is laid to rest.

  • I served with this man in the grunts. He was a grunt. Certainly everything else that has been said about he is true as well.

  • I was a Cadet at Hargrave Military Academy when Colonel Ripley was our President. I always had a great admiration for the man and he gave me an example of honor, courage and commitment that I still try my best to live up to this day. He will be greatly missed.

  • It is truly beautiful the honor we as American's bestow upon our heroes and dead. This man was a great marine and an even greater inspiration to others. He was blessed to have such a wonderful funeral and an awesome show of support and love by his family, friends, and Marines. Semper Fi!

  • My dad knew col Ripley, he said that Ripley wouldnt have wanted his Navy Cross upgraded to the MOH, Humble guy, True hero

  • The Marine Corps can be kind of tight fisted about awards at times and I can almost understand him not wanting it upgraded because of all the fuss that comes with being an MOH receipient. A living one anyway.

That said, I respectfully submit that Colonel Ripley's actions at Dong Ha bridge WERE at MOH level and he desired the award.

On a personal note: I was S-4 1stBn, 6th Marines in 1980-1981. Long since retired. Very proud of the fine job you Marines are doing today. Semper Fi!

  • Col. Ripley should be given the MOH for his action in Quang Tri on 2 Apr 72. His bravery saved many lives that day. We provided Naval gunfire support from our destroyer during that battle. A fine Marine. Semper Fi.

Thank you for your service to our country.

    USN

  • God rest you, Col. You will be missed.

  • Character. Courage. Commitment.

RIP John Ripley... Patriot and Hero.

  • Outstanding video. Thanks for posting. Thank you to the Ripley family and to all of our brothers and sisters in the armed forces of the United States. You guys are the best.

  • Incredible, simply incredible!

  • I met Col. Ripley a few times when I was a midshipman at the Naval Academy. Yes, I was in awe of the man. We all were. He was a living legend.

Rest in peace, Col. Ripley. Semper Fi!

  • OMG!! I was truly moved to tears. I don't know of Col Ripley, but will remember this video forever. It renews and affirms my life long pride in this country and the proud, honorable, servicepeople who protect and serve us every day. God Bless the Ripley family and God Bless America!!!

  • I was also moved to tears by this video. What a man.

  • What a country!! What a professional and polished military, what an outpouring of patriotism for a well loved and admired hero. For some reason, I keep flashing on the funeral "procession" of the Ayatollah Khomeini, I don't know if you're old enough to remember...but there were similar crowds yet so totally out of control, they spilled AK out of his casket and trampled him. When I compare the grace and decorum, I am brought to tears esp in light of the fact that the US is heading that way;-(

  • God, Bless this man of men and the family he represented so well.

  • Rest in peace,Col. John W. Ripley,--You've earned your rest. Thank you for your service. My prayers are with the family.

  • He saved a lot of Marines, Sailors and Soldiers that day. The Black Wall would have a lot more names added if it were not for his Honor Courage and Commitment.

    Semper Fi Col. John Ripley!

  • What America really needs is more heroes like Col. Ripley.

  • Col. Ripley was a true hero. He lived what he preached and will be remembered as a combat Marine who had both military and moral integrity. Although he will be missed, his example will continue to inspire. Pray for him and his family.

  • Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and may Thy perpetual light shine upon him.

  • I was deeply moved by the funeral of Col. Ripley. He was indeed a great hero; a real man who united Catholic virtue and Marine bravery.

May God grant him eternal rest and raise up many more heroes like him, because NOW is America's hour of great need.
