  • the start of this video is better than the new one (=

  • 2:11 or put silver dollars between your toes.

  • The blood vessels in our eyes reflect light if it has high energy like that off the flash of a camera. That is why a number of cameras use a double flash, the first one makes your pupils contract reducing the number of blood vessels and the second one to illuminate the picture. It has nothing to to with the silver bromide :)

  • @92blink182 Put a white Hankey over the Flash - to diffuse the light - this also prevents red eye

    ...and the spread of germs.

  • not necessarily, it may help a little but as long as there is a bright light source close to the lens its liable to happen. Better to move the flash off camera and then use a diffuser to remove the harsh edges from any shadows that might be cast etc.

  • @nowhereusa Sorry, I was thinking of Instamatics and silver anti-bacterial gadgets!

  • Silver is the only element I never forget its symbol, 'Ag' is firmly stuck in my mind. (I think I like silver for athstecic reasons rather than fiscal mindedness ...none the less I <3 my silver pocket watch.) 8)

  • Silver! The very metal used to kill werewolves.

  • and vampire!

  • Oh yeah, Like from Blade :)

  • And vampires! we can't forget about those night dwelling parasites!

  • I wish they would put silver on the door handles of public toilets!

  • However, ingesting colloidal silver can turn your skin permanently blue.

  • Yes, it's called argyria after the Latin name for silver, "argyrum"

  • Seriously? That seems unlikely to me. Permanently blue?!

  • I have a washing machine that has a system called "silver care" that puts silver ions into your clothes. I wonder though, will silver that is absorbed through the pores cause adverse health effects like how aluminum is able?

  • Silver is a heavy metal. Like most heavy metals it will denature proteins and in large amounts it'd be fairly toxic. Even ingesting small amounts of silver appears to be relatively harmless although it can cause skin discolouration(permantent!)

  • @soylentgreenb consuming silver may cause permanent skin discolouration? OMG This explains how Norrin Radd became Silver Surfer!

  • i hate silver because it ruined the colors of the elements, i'm seriusly not kidding about that. i used to like neptunium, but god damn silver had to ruin it.

  • I use silver for under-arm deodorant.

It is expensive but totally worth it.

  • @culwin Try Zinc Starch instead!

  • Silver door knobs are found in old buildings. I wounder if they noticed less sickness was transmitted between people who lived in them.

  • those socks do sound cool, and it all sounds like some great new discoveries in medicine are coming out soon.

  • I'm buying those socks, my feet always smell really bad.

  • the black is...silver. haha thought that was funny

  • they used to use silver as a anti-biotic, to fight of infections and it worked but the trend died out when real anti-biotics were discovered like penicillin.

  • Correction, Silver is still widely used as an antibiotic in topical situations such as burns.

  • Yes. Silvadene ointment is just such a compound.

  • Antibiotics were so lucrative for the pharmaceutical industry that the powerful antimicrobial effects of silver ions (a much cheaper and safer option by comparison) were ignored and stifled.

  • How does the Silver Surfer figure into this? ;)

  • he is silver...they explain it all in the scientific movie otherwise known as Fantastic Four: The Rise Of The Silver Surfer. Although, I recommend the scientific manual otherwise known as the 'comic'.

    knob!

  • Well obviously the Silver Surfer must have antimicrobial properties. It's one of his new superpowers!

  • Something he didn't say about the Photo Film is that the Silver is actually a Compound of Silver and Bromine or better known as Silver Bromide, and from my Knowledge is a Black Compound and the Way films Work are that When the Silver Bromide Is Exposed to Light it reacts and shades each Molecule of the Silver Bromide to the Right Color Making the Different Colors on the Film appear which is the reason you can appear to have Red Eyes as your Eye's Lens Makes the Bromines Natural Red-ness Appear

  • nah that has to be wrong because silver bromide is not used in digital cameras and peoples eyes still appear red in those. however it is to do with the fact that your eye is just a hole into your head really so I'll look it up after posting this comment but my theory is that the red is a reflection off the back of your eye which is full of red blood.

  • Come back to school, lad. Silver is not used in digital cameras because of that there is no foil in digital camera... My God...

  • I said silver isn't used in digital cameras. in my comment i clearly say "silver bromide is not used in digital cameras". by the way I'm in high school but i study second year university chemistry so if you wish to argue then please go ahead. I'm intelligent enough to challenge someone like this professor in his statements. Anyone studying university chemistry has the right to challenge this man.

  • Well done. Expertly read completely incorrectly. Then you went the extra step, and called out the poster for being wrong. Way to look foolish.

  • By the way guys I'm 100% right people's eyes are red in photos because of reflection off the blood vessels in the retina. It's nothing to do with silver bromide.

  • @tomandjj

You are absolutely right. especially due to the fact that the red eye effect still shows up in digital photography.

  • Love your videos!

  • Unfortunately, I am slightly allergic to Silver so no Silver rings, silver socks, or implants for me. Why are some people allergic to silver?

I have some of those plastic ware containers with silver in them and it makes my food last twice as long.

  • You can't be allergic to silver. It's other elements or molecules.

  • I am not allergic to nickel, as you are probably indicating by your statement. You need to do some research; some people are allergic to silver. I have been tested by a medical doctor for allergies. I am guessing, by your statement, that you lack the proper credentials to diagnose me, so I'll stick with the professionals' opinion, thank you.

  • You must be a microbe then. ;)

  • Shhh! Don't give away my secret! lol

  • Festerius2008 could also be a vampire :O

    Once again a good video.

  • or a werewolf lol

  • Well there's Colloidal Silver which one dude took and ended up being the world's biggest Smurf.

  • heaps of people take silver nitrate solution as medication and yes it makes their skin blue. there is probably about 5000 of these people around the world.

  • @tomandjj They should put themselves on YouTube!
