I love the fact that in ubuntu (10.04 anyways) I didn't even need to setup my usb-playstation 2 controller and it had vibration support, even in winxp I don't get vibration on the plug and play drivers, I need special obscure drivers to get it to vibrate. Only thing now is to get my webcam to work, but it's old and crappy anyways.
If you want easy program and printer install Ubuntu does this very well and would have been a beter option for him to have reviewed. I do admit the synaptic packet manager is a little confusing when you first start but like I said Ubuntu has an add and remove programs option that is really simple just like the other operating systems. If you want secure and stable there is no substitute for linux
Fell short on system modification? Show me a more modifiable system!! Oh well, I know what he meant, and realize the show is meant for the user that isn't really interested in using time in making ones desktop as useable as possible and rather the "out of the box" experience is more important.
He said that it was difficult for new users to install new programs, because the package managers are not userfriendly. I think that is true, but it is not an easy problem to solve.
But the newest Ubuntu 8.10 is easy and fast adding applications. But sucky new additions in the core broke the Scanner functionality. ver 8.04 is the Ubuntu you want in an office or for school at this moment.
Props to HP and their support for Open Source. Bought the 6500 and it worked just fine. Updated the drivers, and it's fully functional.
Machine is running Linux Mint 9 "Isadora".

In ubuntu, HP printers are plug and play with no user interaction. Sweet.

The biggest con in Linux is compatibility.

i dont think the compatibility drives people away as much as the gaming does

Oh yeah, and (under Ubuntu/Debian, anyhow) to install a printer nowadays, you have to follow the following steps:
1.) Plug in the printer
2.) Wait for little informational balloon telling you that your printer has been set up
3.) Use the printer
That's even easier than when you're using Windows. No need for extra software.

Yep! Rhythmbox, AmaroK, and Songbird all recognize iPods out of the box now. ^_^

@Sokra81 I know right? That was the most amusing comment of the day.
What about distro's like Gentoo? You can NOT get more customisable than that! I'd like to see any Windows user swap his kernel out for another one!
