I' planning on being in aikdo but I dont know if it can make me fit and can be used in a real life situation.

It definitely can make a person very fit, just going up and down the whole practice is quite an exercise, as for real life situation i would say that if you find yourself in one you already lost, :), takes time, depends on the frequency of practice
