  • Dude I have the same window idea. I predrilled holes in the so my screws will go in fast. I also cut slants in the middle so I can see out. Cut small slants so u can see out

  • Whyyyyyyyyyyyy?????????????????????????

  • The military uses a HESCO barrier. Travisg336 describes them perfectly

  • Hello Sir, Thank you so much for all of this information, I have subscribed and will look forward to more videos from you, I have been slowly building a stockpile, I am in NJ and live in a troubled town already. My house is on a very busy intersection at the cornor and i have 7 doors and 20 windows to the outside. when the SHTF im in deep doo doo, in the last year I have acquired 2 more attack dogs. gun laws in NJ are very strict so I may be fighting with a baseball bat!!

  • @RocketWillow-dont underestimate the power of a government when they control the army. When the army is in control that is even worst. They are professionals, they have more guns, more options, they can cut international broadcasting in seconds, kill bunch of people and tell they were criminals and who would care? What would you do with your gun and some food in the basement? Don't be silly.

  • In soviet Russia under martial law people got executed for steeling a loaf of bread. There was one rule-if you did not comply they would shoot you dead or send to gulag.

  • @RocketWillow-martial law means army in charge. In that scenario people are under control by the police and army.Food may be rationed, heavy patrols and total regime, lots of people would suffer extreme poverty but at the same time black market will flourish. And one would be scared to break the rules not to mention running around with a gun and killing or steeling.Heard about martial courts?

  • @RocketWillow I think it is very unlikely that there will be starving masses attacking in droves. Small groups of looters are much more likely and are what we have, by and large, seen historically. Traveling, unless you are among the first to leave your area, will be both difficult and dangerous in many emergency situations. If you're really concerned about the smell of bacon cooking starting a riot, keep lights off and eat cold cereal by candlelight in the basement for a few days for cool down.

  • @RocketWillowWhat hordes??? U people are paranoid.Everybody else is people just like you.Watched too many horror movies. It is gonna get bad, but not that bad.

  • @RocketWillow Non taken, and yes, I think of what you say. We continue to look for a better position, but for now, this is what we have... thanks for the post!

  • @stayingawake20

you could put curtains in front of the wood as the wood will make it seem someone is "well off" with food, supplies, etc and what not. also, place garbage, debris etc. in front of the house so the house looks rampaged with nothing to take anymore. makes it less consipicous. just my two cents

  • Great video on window barriers, But there is something me and couple of people who talked about this subject. When you put up barriers to your house you are making a statement, saying i got something to protect. When people are hungry they will do anything to get into your house. like drive a car into it or start it on fire. another bad situation is gangs or criminals . i was told is make your house look shot up beet up like someone has been it before and found nothing. just a thought.

  • Hey what are those new military box/sandbag that they use in iraq and afghanistan called?

  • @travisg336 I don't know Brother.....

  • @stayingawake20

They're called Hesco bastions. They consist of a wire cage, lined with cloth, filled with dirt. Google 'hesco' for more info.

  • @stayingawake20

They are called Hesco Barriers they can be 2x2, 4x4,6x6 or larger cubes that are linked together and then set up and filled with sand. I have actually thought about using them or a home made version as an exterior wall coated with stucco or cement.

  • @travisg336 hesco barriers

  • @travisg336 HESCO baskets.

  • @akionaa thanks

  • @travisg336 hesco bastiens

  • @travisg336 They are called Gabions. You can easily make them out of hog wire ( as I have done at my "bunker"), and any fabric to help hold the material you put in it. I use hog wire, with chicken wire, and nylon sheets (bed sheets are cheaper, but degrade faster), and then I add stone&sand inside. My Gabions are smaller, and easier to move with a hand cart, and then I put a light coating of shotcrete to finish it off. It stops all rifle calibers, no problem. Sand and rocks are best & FREE!

  • @prancingdog You should make a video of you construction a hesco. I think it would do so good.

  • @travisg336: I've thought about it, but unfortunately my compound and bunker (separate locations) are not completed yet. There simply are too many OPSEC reasons I can't go into right now, but I plan on eventually doing some ideos on my prepping once I get enough of it done.

I was just trying to help by letting people know what those barriers are. I would also suggest you look up "ferrocement" techniques, as they are cheap, and effective compliments to security measures.

    God bless.

  • @travisg336 yeah...eight months late....but "hesco"

  • Down here in Florida there is a plethora of window fortifying options and how my family has gotten around the visibility issue is by using hurricane rated aluminum shutters with a few of the more expensive clear plexiglass ones (also hurricane rated!). Both the aluminum and the clear shutters are standard sizes and you can layer and overlap them like scales. Buy two or three plexiglass pieces and put them at strategic points where you want visibility.

  • Just found your videos...thank you! While living in coastal Georgia, the hubs and I bought a house. Dad came down and helped us cut plywood for the outside of the windows for hurricane prep. Well, the next season we had one. The Navy called my husband to base and left me to prep by myself! By the time my hubs came back to evacuate us, I had the windows and all but the front door boarded, the two cars packed with our 72-hour kits and other stuff...we were ready to go! I wouldn't have been

  • One question regarding boarding up windows w/plywood...God forbid, but what would you do in the event of a fire to your house, or one that surrounds it and while upstairs sleeping, can't get out through any downstairs windows/doors? This is the one thing that prevents me from going through w/boarding up my own windows...

  • @TheNorthWestPrepper Like you said, God forbid. If I have to put those things up, we are in deep doo doo! However, your door fortification is never permanently affixed giving you access out, and that's one of the reasons. I have 3 doors to the outside. You can buy a very tough film that will withstand a sledge hammer break and will give you the same piece of mind, but it will be expensive...

  • @stayingawake20 - Thanks for reference to that 'film', i'll have to try and find it @ one of my local stores! 3 doors to the outside? i'm assuming you're referring to the front door (1), sliding back door (2) and maybe a standard door in your garage? (3)...

  • @TheNorthWestPrepper Correct on the doors. Check out on line a company called Shattersafe. Best prices I can find on the window film

  • @TheNorthWestPrepper Hesco berriers

  • @TheNorthWestPrepper The way I have thought to do it is to have 1/4" L-brackets and 1/4" bolts that go into holes drilled in to the wall. 6-8 bolts per window is probably enough.

That way you could easily remove them from the inside of the house.

  • Just a tip I thought of to help with the bullet problem, get a few Wal-Mart bags (they are free) and fill them up with clay-like soil from your backyard (Also free). Then put them in between your plywood and your window. It may not stop a .50 Cal, but it will at least slow down whats coming in, like a small callibur fire-arm, which is what most people in the sub-urbs carry. Hope it helped.

  • @ravager240 Good Idea! Great Idea actually. Thanks!

  • @stayingawake20 No problem, I think of Ideas for stuff like this all of the time, just thought I would share. Great job with the videos, I am new to this field (the surviving the end of civilization) and appreciate your videos on the subject, being 17 no one usually listens to my questions on the matter.

    P.S I subscribed

  • Get a Katadyn Survivor 35

It is the only manual water purification system that can make fresh water from sea water OR urine. If you live near the coast, how will you get fresh water? Set up a huge distillation system to lick condensation off plastic? That's for suckers.

The Katadyn Survivor will allow you to extend your limited water supply. 1 gallon a day goes fast, BUT if you can use reverse osmosis to pump fresh water out of contaminated water... you can live longer.

  • This is awesome- more people need to think about this stuff. Thanks!

  • Christian American I'LL SUBSCRIBE TO THAT!

  • @fromthe209 Thanks!

  • could easily add small hinged gun windows to the plywood, that can be reinforced.

  • good luck when it comes and thanks for the great info!!!

p.s.- this is only the first video i've watched

  • @danshwan Thanks!!!

  • We wish you were our neighbor!!!! We're right there with you buddy!

  • @acadamiacs Thank you so much! I wish I had more like minded neighbors as well. Be well and thanks for the post!

  • did you do a vid on garage door or a idea just becuase we have alot of tools and usefull stuff in there the survival supplies will come in the house but like our generator and air compressor are in there i can fortifie the window like you said and the door but the garage door should i be conerbed or not the roll up style lockable.

  • @dunn98632 No I didn't. Our door is steal insulated with Gdoor opener. very heavy. pull the emergency disconnect when away and tape it to the door so no one can slip a hanger in there and disconnect it to open the door. Hope that helps!

  • Most Rxs are for 30-90 Days---Moreover, when SHTF the drugstore will not be a safeplace to be going----I have had surpirising sucess with Essential oils and aromatherapy---Not the most "manly" of subjects---but I have read books and invested about $200 and can concotc solutions for just about any common illness. You can't protect your family laying in bed with a migrain.

  • @kevreilly7 You are very correct! RX's don't last long, but I believe that last longer that the manufacturer says. Perhaps up to 3 times longer, but hell that's not very long at all! Natural remedies are the best bro! Keep it up! P.S. and who give a crap if it's manly or not right!!!

  • @kevreilly7 People laugh but those aroma therapy oils work! I keep them with me at all times. Get Bee pollen too! That stuff is AWESOME - really builds you immune system. Order from the apiary in Washington. Don't buy bee pollen in capsules in a bottle. Get the fresh good stuff. It keeps you immune system very strong.

  • Don't forget the washers!!!!!!!!

  • @kevreilly7 I know,,, I did originally and went back out to buy them!

  • Egad that's bright : )

For a moment I thought you were putting up the OSB to shield you from the blinding nuclear blast in your driveway!

I have been thinking about what we should do during a SHTF board-up. Would you want to put the plywood inside rather than outside so that the home doesn't look like a bunker and perhaps attract looters from the zombie horde? Maybe even curtains between? Since it wont keep out a sustained assault, is it better to go incognito rather than hurricane-esk?

  • @NurseMeister Ha, too funny! For me, yes inside, and we have blinds that will go between glass and osb. However, another comment has led me to a anti;shatter film. Pretty impressive! As I do more research, I'll do a vid if I can get some! Thanks again for your great comments!!!

  • @stayingawake20 Ahhh Cool, I just got to your vid on the Anti-shatter film. Now that's something I had not thought of.

I just can't decide what to do about not making the house look too much like a bunker.that would attract unwanted attention from zombies. Short of mounting little OSB diorama boxes with curtains, flowers, and a cat to the walls, everything I can think of will look fortified from the road. Even the shambling masses (you know, yuppies) will figure out something's with the home.

  • @NurseMeister Ya, the age old question, if you look like you have something to hide, then you probably do. Check out my nosy neighbors vid. This window film is a good additional way, but when push comes to shove, defend, defend, and defend. It was the most economical way I could think of. Perhaps painting them black? Or another color. Just a thought. Thanks for the comment!

  • Thank you for your insight to Neighborhood Survival...I Installed a new fence galvi fence, home security cameras on battery backup, drivway detection system, and working on my plywood project.

  • Never gave any thought to a driveway detection system.. but that's a great friggin idea!!!! Thanks a bunch and thanks for watching!!!
