I remember when I was twelve I was laying on the couch, and my sister played this song while she cleaned. It was one of the greatest moments ever I never really listened to music when I was younger, until I heard this song, I fell in love with Bright Eyes.
"But I talk in the mirror To the stranger that appears Our conversations are circles Always one sided Nothing is clear Except we keep coming back To this meaning that I lack He says the choices were given Now you must live them Or just not live But do you want that?" One of my favorite parts of this CD! Very introspective.
Conor is worlds above any other artist. He could care less about production value, he cares nothing about his vocal ability, he doesn't care how technical or not his instrumentals are. He writes from his heart and creates true art and shows it in every breath he musters.
But yea all the greats kill them selves or of or get murdered as a close friend of mine once said to me you sing your own death..like Elliott Smith..
Conors band better keep a watchful eye on him...the world still needs bright eyes and conor still needs you Mike mogis please make 10 more bright eyes records
"But I talk in the mirror To the stranger that appears Our conversations are circles Always one sided Nothing is clear Except we keep coming back To this meaning that I lack He says the choices were given Now you must live them Or just not live But do you want that?"
Nice to catch somebody making such a recent post here. I just discovered this guy last night and have been listening to all the full-lengths. I actually think allot of people think the way Mr. Orberst does. But most of society just ignores explicit existentialism.
It makes sense, because an honest person would end up like Collin, tearily blathering away. That's not too great for humanistic societal stability.
Course their are answers too. But people uninterested in being wrong ignore them.
When I saw Bright Eyes in Germany I screamed "HALIGH!!" and "PADRIAC!!" at opportune moments. But I don't think he's playing his old stuff much anymore. The oldest song he played at that concert (in 2007) was From a Balance Beam.
This music is the best when the booze and pills mix well enough to provoke emotions that have dwelling within for so long you forgot you had them. As the album art in this video spins and sways...sometimes splitting I cry until my sight is gone. You must shed these tears to grow, that is what Bright Eyes does for me. When Sadness brings me comfort.
This is tied with A Perfect Sonnet as my all time favorite songs. I love how he describes the brief death of rejection and the indifference that ensues and was unknowingly there the whole relationship. I can relate even though I've never been cheated on myself. I've never met Conor but somehow I'm to the point where he's the only person I want to listen to anymore
i listen to this song everytime i am sad and it makes me feel like someone else has felt my pain and it makes me feel not alone and that makes me feel better
I know that saying I like the old stuff better is kind of typical, but holy crap I hate Monsters of Folk..... and Cassadega, and I want to hate I'm Wide Awake it's Morning for starting this sudden, stupid change in genre that he's doing, but who am I kidding, I'm Wide Awake it's Morning is awesome. Really, I think I just like Conor better on heroin.
Back in the day my brother used to always listen to Bright Eyes, and I hated them. I thought they were just the most annoying thing ever. Then I came across this song one day, and fell in love. My brother never played this song before that I could remember, but I adored it. Now Bright Eyes is my favourite band of all time, and I don't know how I ever lived without them<3
@administramation check out the stuff he did with neva dinova or the mystic valley band, alot of that is like "im wide awake, its morning" wich is older than fevers and mirrors. dope stuff
@administramation Fevers and Mirrors is the best. I thought 'indie' was intended to be something like a boy recording on a 4 track machine in the middle of Nebraska, anyhow. Independent, you know. Now it's just a bunch of phonies with their sound effects and obscure bands they use to outcast themselves. It makes me want to be sick. This is one of the most real and beautiful things I know, this album.
i did a badass sims video to this. but it got erased before i uploaded it. now i dont have the sims. this was my first bright eyes song i heard, i loved it. its beautiful, amazing. i love bright eyes.
@afinalpairoflimbs It really is an emotional song. It kind of breaks away from the generally large scale depression in the album (Something Vague and An Attempt To Tip the Scales are good examples of what the album mainly talks about) and moves on to simpler things that can easily ruin anyone.
