This video is inaccurate as is the one on Che Guevara (which I see you have blocked comments on since I am sure you cant take the critisim), where do you get your info? Wikipedia? The one major thing that has to be pointed out about this video is that you said St. Patrick is a pagan when he is taking to Ireland but became catholic in Ireland. But how does he become a catholic in Ireland if there are no catholics there before him??? He is the person who brought catholicism to Ireland...
I think it's wrong to assume that christianity made life better for humans. It certainly did no good for the people of Ireland, who still kill each other to this day, because of it.
@port9er WRONG. I'm s sick of naive people saying it's religion that caused The Troubles. The IRA would quite happily have all religions living together provided it was a united Ireland
Although I completely disagree with you're history of Che Guevara, as a Catholic I want to thank you for clearing up the true meaning of a Catholic holiday.
wait you said that st patricks day was celebrated by catholics originally, but saint patrick was born in AD35 but the great schism didnt take place until 1054. so they werent known as catholics they were known as christians or today as eastern orthodox christians.
@elporteroful no no, The Orthodox Church is not the Catholic Church not by the name or the idea, but by how it is run. i saw in your other comment "clearing up the true meaning of a Catholic holiday", a lot of Saints don't just pertain to the Roman Catholic Church or the Eastern Orthodox Church it depends really but in Saint Patrick's day case it is a Feast Day celebrated by most churches so you cant just call it a "Catholic holiday", Christian Holiday would be better.
@loudwolf1 It is a Catholic holiday because it is establish by the Catholic Church. The Roman Apostolic Church, Eastern Orthodox, Greek Orthodox, Russian Orthodox, all those other church are still part of the Catholic Church. The only difference between these churches are the traditions. The holiday was established by the Catholic Church, so yes it is a Catholic holiday.
@elporteroful OMG i dont know if u are trolling me or what ever but the Roman Catholic Church is separate from the the Eastern Orthodox Church(greek, antiochain russian etc...) the Roman Catholic Church is headed by the POPE and the Eastern Orthodox Churches are headed by a whole bunch of PATRIARCHS. The eastern churches hav different traditions the CATHOLIC church and the EASTERN church are completely separate. Ever since the Great Schism it has been this way.
@loudwolf1 First of all, I don't troll, I have no idea what that is really, but I know what I'm saying because I'm Catholic myself. Roman Catholic. The Eastern Churches still recognize the pope as the vicar of Christ. The pope I believe at one point in history did excommunicate these churches, but a few decades ago lifted that. The Eastern Churches are Catholic as well as they still pertain to the four notes or four marks: One, Holy, Catholic, Apostolic. They're just as much Catholic as me.
@SpadaccinoLuciano I'm Chicano, I speak Spanish...fluently. El Che is a nickname for Che Guevara, like El Comandante or even Che is a nickname of his.
@SpadaccinoLuciano The Sandinistas of the FSLN, a revolutionary group in NIcaragua also called him El Che. It's like they're saying THE Che, like the one and only. It's out of respect to him. El Che is another one of his nicknames.
By dedicated his life to "helping the Irish" you mean pushing a foreign, dogmatic and divisive religion onto the Irish people, destroying their native culture, which has caused nothing but war and hatred to fester in the country still to this day?
@PyroX792 He wasn't pushing anything on them, in fact, they tried to drive him out several times. Their "native culture" practiced ritualistic killing of humans.
@jeremiahjw Actually, ritualistic killings and other types of sacrafices were practiced with many different cultures at the time, not just Druids. Many times the Druids sacraficed people who volunteered.
Regarding the fossil snakes, I do believe they have never been any snake fossils discovered in the entire British Isles yet there are plenty of snakes in England. So you can't cite the absence of Fossils in Ireland to argue against the snake purging legend.
@brain4breakfast I know IQ's are crashing fast but this kind of dumbness just does my head in. Look, watch the video, then read my comment. If it the penny still hasn't dropped find someone who can tie their own shoelaces to watch and read and explain it to you.
Funny thing about the video is the body he "raises from the dead" is the head of Niccolò Machiavelli, who wasn't born until.... 500 years after Patrick.
@Parqit LOL, I was wondering if anyone would notice that. I had to find old paintings that did not have a copyright on them anymore to get heads for the other characters.
Video fails to mention all the people he murdered while "converting" the Irish people to Christianity. It's easy for Christianity to conveniently forget their bloody history, and that Christianity was spread more by the sword than by the word.
@jeremiahjw Yes how convenient that you've accepted the whitewash of the Church. History tells us a very different story, however, as does Patricks own writing where he revels in the slaughter of pagans at his own hand.
Remember who writes the story after the conquest.
And ask yourself how the church managed to "convert" Ireland so quickly. If you have the courage to be honest about it.
@witchtelus I'm not whitewashing the CATHOLIC church, there have been many horrible things they have done through history. I'm just saying that Saint Patrick is one of the positive things that has come from it. There isn't any documentation that Saint Patrick ever killed anyone, even in self defense.
The church was a minority in Ireland. Patrick was arrested a few times by the Druids, there weren't enough people to fight the Druids, they would have all been killed.
@SuperTanner69 They preformed human sacrifices, which, I'd hope you think were wrong. It was common for catholicism to absorb the current culture's practices, sans the ones that involved killing people.
@SuperTanner69 Red herring, the Druids preformed human sacrifices, the Catholic church didn't. There were cases where they would "kill or convert", but that more centralized, and in certain time periods, not the case in Ireland with St. Patrick.
I figured you weren't. I am well aware of the human sacrifices, but honestly, who is to say they are wrong? Note, St Patrick probably did a good thing, but I just can't take it seriously knowing what will eventually happen to the Irish. That is all i'm saying.
Cute, but you could work on his history. You say Patrick was born AD 35 (three seconds in) and died 3/17/461, which would make him 426 or thereabouts. I doubt he lasted quite that long.
2:47 thats not a clover thats a shamrock thats the main thing people get mixed up about he used the shamrock 4 the father and the son and the holy spirit just thought u should no
Awesome video, it's nice to hear the real stories of people like this that spent their lives doing things like starting schools and churches to help the poor.
It should probably be noted that saint Patrick himself hated alcohol, and wanted it banished. Which just makes celebrating saint Patrick's day now really odd. But a great video nonetheless!
I hate to nit-pick because this was very entertaining, but at the very start of the video you say Saint Patrick was born around 35ce, and died in 461ce. Thinking another reason they may have changed his color from blue to green because of the Virgin Mary. She sorta out ranks him. So the color choice was obviously green.
This video is inaccurate as is the one on Che Guevara (which I see you have blocked comments on since I am sure you cant take the critisim), where do you get your info? Wikipedia? If by helping and teaching the Irish, you mean destroying their culture. "Patrick" was very much a "must covert the heathens!" kind of guy.
St. Patrick's day is really very anti-Irish, being that most of the current traditions were created in the United States rather than Ireland itself.
