Hi Dr, l am interesting in clarification on what qualitative method can l use to look at young peoples ambivalence to binge drinking? will it be ethnography or phenomenology approach and why
Dr. I am a university studnet taking up a Master's degree in Reading education. I would like to verify if there is any difference with conceptual framework and review of related literature. Where does the paradigm go? Is it really required to do both conceptual framework and paradigm at the same time? Thank you in anticipation toy our very helpful reply.
There is a difference between a conceptual framework and the review of the literature. The conceptual or theoretical framework is a theory, combination of theories and/or concepts that are guiding your work. A review of the literature reviews and synthesizes what others (i.e., researchers) have contributed to the study of the issue that are the focus of your study. A paradigm is similar to a conceptual framework but is not the same. It is your decision whether to do both.
@apicciano Thank you so much for this clarification. So does it mean that the review of Related Literature should be dedicated to studies I mean researchers done in the past? Where shall I put secondary data such as articles form journals and academic books if they are not dissertations or studies per se? Now that you have clarified the difference, does it mean that the conceptual or theoretical framework is a separte chapter in research? I know I got so excited in asking you tons of questions
The review of the literature should be mainly studies but can also include essays, opinion pieces, books and secondary data reports. What is important is to synthesize all into a coherent review.
I would always have separate chapters for the theoretical framework and the review of the literature.
There is no definite answer to your question and depends upon the requirements of the program or organization in which you will be doing your research. In very formal studies, hypotheses are generally required. However, research questions have become increasingly popular in education research and can be used stand alone or in certain circumstances with hypotheses. In my program here at the City University of New York, we tend to have students form hypotheses or questions but not both.
@syukurriahidrus Hypothesis may be explicitly stated or implicitly stated. If it is an experimental research, there is a need to state it, if not...you may not since your review of related literature or the conceptual framework are ways to give hypothesis which may be verified as rejected or accepted in the findings,m conclusions and recommendations part of the whole research. :-D
Thank you, Dr. I am working on finalizing a manuscript for the "Journal of Critical Care Nursing" and just needed somewhat of a refresher on the research process to restore my confidence in myself.

Thanks for this - a lot of people seem to struggle with this, or not like it as much as a module. This is helpful.

can somebody help me in determining whether it is a need to have hypothesis together with research question or it can be either one?
