According to Rolling Stone the Public Option as it is right now is going to do no more than leave 40 million uninsured versus 50 million and the cost is going to sky rocket just as it is now. Single Payer is the solution. $350 billion in paperwork alone would be saved per year. "Health care is a condition not a commodity," Bill Moyer. If a public option passes it is just a pyrrhic victory. No doubt at all Obama goes with the Trigger Option so he can avoid blame when things go badly.
Anyone who has questions regarding the public option may be able to find the answers in the comment section of my profile. I have a wide variety of resources and information including the ez to read version of the bill and several ways in which you can become more involved.
1) They are not talking about reform in Health Care, which is sorely needed. AMA self reports in excess of 100,000 die every year at the hands of doctors by way of "properly prescribed medicine (pharmaceuticals) in proper dosage."
2) What is being discussed is who and by what precise means will this homicidal industry be paid for disposing of so many people in such an efficient manner.
When you look past the hype you see an industry in need of reform not funding.
Give health insurers an even freer rein than they have now for the vague promise of doing better on costs... is pretty much the same as: "bend over and hope for the best."
Just after the quote shown here, Weiner says that there already are triggers set up in the legislation because of the delays of several yrs to implement the plans. In other words, this is another non-issue controversy the GOP have stirred up to further muddy the waters of healthcare reform. He also says that triggers are just another way for the GOP to kick this can down the road. Of course, the last time the GOP kicked this issue down the road it was 1993 w/virtually nothing done for 15+ yrs :(
The american people need and deserve a public option. Thank god that I live in a country where I don't have to worry about going bankrupt if I ever get sick.
Why is it our money we pay in taxes only goes to nasa so they can go to the moon! Are we not paying already way enough to them! We shouldnt have to pay more if the goverment takes over health care we already pay them alot already!!
ladyblue - Huh? Nasa is one of the cheapest programs we have. It takes up only 0.7% of our federal budget. That's roughly 2/3ds of a penny for every Federal tax dollar you pay. And as far as "government takes over health care", I'm puzzled. Do you like it that William McGuire of UnitedHealth made $110 million salary with a $1.1 billion golden parachute? Do you know how many dialysis treatments and MRI's his salary alone would provide? And he's just one executive profiting from denying claims.
Insurance Is not the answer! The cost of everthing is! After insurance pay! You owe way to much !! Cost is way to high in medical! People dont make enough money to pay for insurance then to have to pay for there bills!!!!
ladyblue - health insurance profits have risen 400% in the last fifteen years - has your salary gone up 400%? Health insurance is supposed to pay for health care - but their companies charge higher premiums, deductibles and co-pays, at a rate far faster than any of the medical expenses they claim to cover - and they provide less coverage each year.
That expense shows up in every gallon of milk you buy - the dairy company has to pay higher health care costs and raise its prices.
That is sad ! It hasn't! Insurance is nothing but a scam! Our goverment wants to be a part of it so they can profit 400% Medicare cost so much when you have to buy other on top of that ! You pay in for it all the years you should just get it! Where do all that money goes!!
and we're getting hosed because grumpy old conservatives stupidly believe whatever hannity says. on the other hand, the dumbass townhalling teabaggers really just give obama and the corporatist democrats cover while they sell us out. :-/
The truth I think is that they absolutely hate us and don't care if we die. It is time to stop sugar coating this thing. They hate average humans who have to work for a living.
Rodger - who is this "they" you speak of? The sad truth was summed up in a comic, 'Pogo', with the line, "We have met the enemy.. and he is us". We are responsible for electing leadership that sucks. We are responsible for buying Chinese products instead of American, and accepting American products that are poorly made instead of demanding quality.
I know it's not sexy to lay the blame on personal responsibility, but we really do have the government and corporations we asked for - and deserve.
There are 313 Dems in Congress who (theoretically) support universal health care, 226 Republicans who will do anything to obstruct and destroy reform, and ONE Republican who says she MIGHT vote for the Dem's plan if it completely GUTS everything they wanted to do.
What's "B.S." here is that the Dems are actually THINKING about appeasing her.
If they do this, I'm going to print a bumper sticker that says "How can you trust Dems to deal with bin Laden when they can't handle Olympia Snow?"
A trigger beyond 2013 will give them 4 years to corrupt the law. Drive trucks through the holes they would get put in ready to be exploited in 2013. At the least paying the MAX allowed beneath the trigger.
Has Obama given up on the public option? I truly hope not. No help from the right at all so just ram it through and be rewarded with public approval in the end. Come on Dems.

The White House isn't even trying. They don't want the public option. If they did, they wouldn't keep pretending they need Republican support.
51 VOTES IS ALL WE NEED
Obama is trying to undermine liberalism.

I meant the republicans. And I totally agree with your statement that it is the peoples fault for letting our HIRED officials do whatever they want.

"Trigger option" is an excuse so Republicans can say they tried to "compromise" and the Dems would not. It's total B.S. and we all know it

hmm the title is deceptive. Weiner was adamant about opposing the trigger. His one line about it passing wasn't what he emphasized.
