  • thank you very much for the video, swapped the laser from a completely dead pro/benq into my Elite/lite-on that wouldnt read anymore, worked like a charm, had a general idea of what to do but didnt want to risk my 360 till i saw it done.

  • Why do people using potatoes to hd needy tuts?

  • What do people sus

  • Hey.Just a quick question. Is it just a straight swap or do you need to tweek and adjust the laser using a multimeter?

  • do you have to calibrate the laser at all??

  • I did this but my laser does not move forward or back smooth when that white part with small screw is put on it, so it wont read games and shows open tray, same happens if i remove that white part. What shall i do?

  • i replaced my laser step by step from this vid but when i turn on the xbo the laser light isnt comming on help

  • Just used this tutorial to replace the laser on my Benq. I opened both drives up (new and old) and kinda freaked out when I saw the logic boards were not the same. Perhaps the 2008 drive is built differently than the 2011 drive, despite it being the same manufacturer. Anyhow I decided to give it a shot with this tutorial and it worked like a charm! I can't thank you enough.

  • Does that tutorial working on slim xbox dvd drive ? (liteOn 16D4S)

  • THANK YOU! just did the repair myself and it worked like a charm. Great turtorial! you guys are life savers

  • @TheCheeze2 Glad we could help.

  • THANK YOU! just did the repair myself using this turotial and my 360 is back. Super simple to do. my first time doing anything like this and it worked! thanks again, you guys are life

    savers

  • I bought 2 of these lenses from your site and I fixed one of my xbox's completely while the other is playing games it couldn't play before, it is now giving me a disc read error in the middle of the game. The loading times are also longer than usual when it does work. I've tried several games that work on one xbox that I've repaired with this tutorial but it doesn't work on the other. Any suggestions? Please help and thanks in advance!

  • @Shekeib Please send us an email by going to our contact page on gamerepair(dot)com. We would be glad to figure out whats going on and help you out.

  • Thanks so much man! Great Tut!

  • @TheRaptor1122 Your welcome buddy.

  • @gamerepaircom Btw My disc tray sometimes struggles to open it makes a wierd noise, and when I close it i have to press it shut to make it stay shut. Any hints?

  • My xbox takes many many tries in order for it to just begin to read the disc. I will have to normally bang the top of it a lot and keep taking it in and out in order for it to work, but after it starts working its for the most part fine. Does this mean I need a laser swap?

  • ok so i have planed with the alightment but the laser seems fine. my laser i can see is on the inner part of the disc and make a loud "grinding noise" the laster will not go out. is this alignment or the worm gear?

  • I'd build a blue-Laser with the broken one aw yeah

  • I did this but now I my tray won't open or close. The engine is still on and the part with the rubber band is spinning but it won't open or close.

  • Can you give me a list of everything i need to do this please?

  • this was great - fully entertaining with the -- i dont know what this is -- and the answering the phone and fully informal!

  • can i put a hitachi laser into a samsung ms28??!

  • @ownedwinful Yes you can but the white gears on the laser lens are different.

  • @gamerepaircom and whats the matter with that?

  • @ownedwinful It will not move back and forth properly therefore it will not read properly. Just buy the new Hitachi laser lens and use your old toshiba/samsung laser lens white gear.

  • @gamerepaircom Well there are some lasers in ebay that works for both hitachi and samsung. I wonder why is that then. Anyway ill try it out if i can manage to do it..

  • @gamerepaircom I just successfully switched the lasers! im so happy^^. It comes that the samsung's white plastic piece matches perfecly in the hitachi laser and now it works perfectly... yes!

  • thanks so much! I was totally fed up with trying to flash a new drive because my old one stopped working because of the laser. I probably should have done this from the start instead of pulling out my hair (so to speak) trying to get a flash working that would not work. thanks again I may just look you up if i have any future problems with my 360.

  • ive read other tutorials where they need to desolder a blob why dont you do that?

  • @ElectricSway Because we de-solder all of ours for the customers. If you want it there we will leave it there.

  • @gamerepaircom Just out of interest what type of solder do they use for that blob?

    Is it lead or lead-free?

    Excellent tutorial btw, very nice.

  • Is It Possible To Get A Philips Drive And Switch The Whole Drive To A Hetachi. No Removing Lasers. Just Swaping Drives. Ive Done Before Its Was A Mirecle The Game Loaded And It Would Say Play Game And I Pressed ~A~ And It Loads And Took Me Back To DashhBoard. Is It Possible Or Not. It Should Be Cuz It Loads A Game But Straght Back To Dashboard

  • @TheLonewolf1337 You cannot do this because the dvd board from your original drive is married to the motherboard. This would require spoofing and you can get banned from xbox live for this.

  • @gamerepaircom How Do You Spoof.?

  • How do you know which type of laser you need??? Is it written on the drive??

  • @dementedmole5 It is on the laser lens, and the laser drive will tell you the name of the drive and you can match that to the laser lens name.

  • @gamerepaircom thanks!!!

  • Thanks pal, I managed to strip my lads Xbox 360 down and change the laser using this tutorial video, it now works like new.

  • @l33dsunited Your welcome!

  • thanks! now i can sit and play mw3 and you just earned yourself a subscriber! :)

  • @bmxbooster Thanks a lot. Glad you found it useful.

  • i have an xbox slim with a philips lite on drive (it doesnt say "benq" anywhere so i assume its not a benq). when i put in a disc it says "open tray". how do i know if i only need a laser or if i need a new drive?

  • @il0veexplosives Usually you just need a new laser but one thing we have noticed on those drives is the worm motor is actually what is bad we are having these manufactured and will be selling them on our web store soon.

  • Thank you very much for this tutorial! :)

  • @genxor Your very welcome. Glad I could help!

  • Thanks for this. Easy to switch out and new laser works like a charm. One question: after replacing it, the laser moving (when the tray closes, or when it starts reading a disc) causes a "grinding" type noise. I cleaned the rods and didn't re-grease them, but you already said that shouldn't be a problem. Could it be caused by something else? Under/over tightened screw, piece slightly off, something else?

  • @dgicm @dgicm actually, never mind. Took it back apart and found the screw holding the arm connected to the worm motor was loose. Found a slightly wider screw to replace it and good as new. (better than new, really). Thanks again.

  • Thanks for the video! I was going to replace the entire DVD drive with circuit board change and everything. Followed your video and replaced just the laser part and it worked! Now my xbox works like new!

  • Hello thanks for the tutorial nice work i have one question u mention solder bubble were is that locate on that laser?

  • @GAMEREPAIRCOM

Hi guys I got a question:

It's better to clean this rails from this thing n leave it clean or, when I clean that I gotta put some oil for this rails? What is You sugestion about that??

If You can answer me I'll be greatful.

Sorry for my english I ain't that good^^

    Greets

  • @im2fast4yall You dont need to add oil or anything to the rails, just clean them and they it will work just fine. :-) Cheers!

  • @gamerepaircom

I replace the laser about 1h ago n it's workin' fine. Thanks for your tutorial it helps me a lot :)

I clean the rails n just leave it clean n dry :)

    Stay cool^^

    PAX

  • @im2fast4yall We honestly just clean them and do not oil them up. But it doesn't really make a huge deal. Just do not put too much on there. Hope this helps!

  • @gamerepaircom

It works perfectly fine without oil. Thanks again for the tutorial ^^ Bless

  • I need a working laser! haha...the ones who repair xbox here in my town, want me to pay almost 45-50 usd...when a new dvd drive is around 30...c'mon...

  • @kalibrador That is what we charge as well for repairs in our city. But this is because we charge for the labor and we give a warranty with the laser repair. If you buy from ebay good luck returning the laser if its faulty and you are doing the work. Hope this helps you understand a little bit more my friend.

  • olha cara o meu deu isso e olhe o vídeo do problema: v=q_B6MvAth54

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I had two drives, one broken and the other not, I just had to swap the two lasers and WAHLAH! My Xbox fired right up. Thank you for posting this tutorial, I fond it very helpful.

  • @14Mew Glad we could help!

  • so is there a soldering point ir something you have to remove before you put the new one in because in all the other videos you have to remove a soldering point

  • @MLGBannds Usually yes, unless however you purchase the lasers from us. We remove the solder bubble for you. :-)

  • nice tutorial :D

  • @Yojerome303 Thanks!

  • i just replaced my lite on laser for a benq laser, but when i put a disc in it just starts reading it for ages, help :D

  • @PeRaN98 reading it for ages? Please give me more details and I will try to help you out.

  • Thanks mate this worked a charm. You can use a BenQ laser from the old drives aswell.

Again thanks for the help it saved me a few quid on a complete new drive.

  • @jos923 :-D Glad we could help!

  • how tha fuck do you remove tha tray im trying wat you did but everytime i push the gears with tha screw driver it dosnt go all tha way and i feel like im going to break whats another way to remove tha tray offically?

  • @bbookerggtw Calm down my friend. OK hopefully you have figured it out or not threw it down the street by now. ;-P You can spin the gears or push the inside rail to the slide and the tray should open, if you still have some issues go to gamerepair (dot) com and get us on live chat or call us toll free and ask for me Brian Jr.

  • Watched the video, ordered a new laser - which shipped out the same day - and now my Xbox is running like new. Thanks!

  • Comment removed

  • HELP! The white slider gear won't screw back in... it's like the screw is too short or something. Any suggestions?

  • How in the hell do you remove the solder ball?

  • when doing the replacement if u touch the new lazers lenze will it naf it up ?

  • Do you need to flash anything? Or can you just straight up replace the laser?

  • i cant find where the gear is to open the tray

  • Nice shit from uk, I changed this lens armed only with a kitchen Knife. ggs

  • canned air...air in a can :D

  • LOL twist the gears? There's a slide you can push instead. Update req'd badly

  • @neildee250 When is this said? I will try to help you.

  • @neildee250 Nevermind I found were he said this. You can do it either way but showing were it has to be pushed would be a bit difficult. Either way is fine. :-P

  • @gamerepaircom I'm ok thanks been fixing them years was looking for a video for a friend but going to make him one myself - thanks though

  • @neildee250 Either way works. Dont bash the old guy doing the repair :-D

  • @gamerepaircom im paying a repair shop 85 dollars to do this

    is that a fair price?

dont wanna feel like im getting ripped off

  • The white slider wont screw back in

  • My xbox... ITS ALIVE!

  • @NutsOfRubber :-D

  • wow i replaced my laser and my xbox still doesnt work

  • @CurtisBrodigan17 Send the laser back to who you bought it from and have a new one sent to you.

  • I cant even see where the gears are to open it

  • I have an interesting question. Is it acceptable to use WD-40 on the silver railings that hold the BenQ laser? I heard that lubricating the railings seems to help the laser movement perform better.

However, I'm not sure how true this is. Any suggestions regarding a lubricant?

  • @CineBreedProductions WD-40 is fine, we would however recommend using lithium grease.

  • @CineBreedProductions You should use a light fixed grease not a spray

  • Thanks buddy

  • I am guessing your products are shipped with the anti-static solder ball, could you make a tutorial on removing it? If you haven't already made one.

  • @KILR4mercs Actually we remove the anti-static solder ball to make it easier for you.

  • @gamerepaircom were is your store located, maybe you could help me with that.

  • @KILR4mercs We are located in Las Vegas, NV

  • @gamerepaircom Never mind then haha I live in Massachusetts

  • @gamerepaircom When you get a brand new laser lens is there some kind of protective piece on the lens that needs to be removed? Because when I followed this tutorial and replaced my lens, it says reading for like 2 seconds then open tray. It doesn't take any time to read the disc. I don't if maybe I screwed up the installation somewhere or something but it seems to be sliding along the rails fine. It was making some noise to if that may be a factor.

  • What about lubing the drive rail, do I need to do that?

  • @CAGGames I would lightly.

  • would i need to flash after replacing the laser?

  • @heartsickslayer No, thats only for switching the DVD drive.

  • Man i bought the wrong driver can i replace a phillips laser with a samsung laser?

  • @TheEjaay No Sir.

  • hey thx a lot ..but when something is wrong with that white part of mine ..when i try to place it back the screw doesnt' fits up..its kinda loose ? what should i do please help

  • Replaced me laser. Now its making fucked up noises when cd starts to spin :( Any help? cheers!

  • @dustythedoggy Sounds like a bad laser or bad board.

  • This was very helpful, thanks you

  • @specialcorgi Your very welcome.

  • Never mind I was using a screwdriver that was too small. I hope I didn't break anything

  • Hey I'm having quite the hard time getting the screws out. I'm pushing down so hard I'm afraid of breaking my drive. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • I replaced the lens, but now it just gives me an open tray error, I looked at the drive while it was open and the lens don't move back at all. I don't know what else to do now.

  • @shadowclaw56 could be a bad lens or solder bubble is still on the trace

  • @gamerepaircom Oh I got my 360 running now. It wasn't the laser, but rather my drive had some mechanical problems. I just replaced the whole drive and now it's working great! :)

  • I just received my lens in the mail. I shall perform the necessary steps tomorrow in order to get my console up and running.

  • Great instructions, thanks. Son is now very happy he can play games again

  • i don't have the correct white gear, how do i get one?

  • thankyou, had Liteon 8xxx series with open tray error tried adjusting pots but must of been laser damaged, so followed your guide and replaced the laser with a old benq laser WORKS PERFECT NOW :)

  • I was watching this video hoping to find out where the home position is for the laser... is home towards the middle hub? My laser moves away from the hub... when i insert a game it does move forward to detect the disc... i have to manually move the laser to get it tthe hub then insert the disc... what does this sound like

  • good sir ever since my xbox suffered the open tray error I've been searching for TWO MONTHS for the proper way to fix it. I tried using a new drive altogether but the dvd key incorrect. I tried every method to get the new one the right dvd key.... none worked. I have watched your tutorial, preformed the procedure, and two months of trying, two months of headaches, two months of hopelessness. I have switched my xbox on and heard the halo 3 theme choir. it works, finally, thank you sir thank you!!!

  • please help me! I stripped one of those screws that holds the metal clips on. i managed to get it halfway out using a dremel, flathead, and pliars. I have replaced the laser and now have the metal clip supported just by the threaded part of the screw backed out half way, there is no top to the screw! i do not think this will be sturdy enough for me to use it. does anyone know the size of these screws so that i can get a replacement? i've been out of an xbox for a week now :(

  • Thanks this works, I was receiving the open tray error on my system. I ordered a replacement DVD rom drive which was Benq. I did everything in the video. He is correct, you don't need to replace or swap the circuit board. I swapped my bad philips lite-on laser with the replacement BenQ & it works perfectly. I was up & running playing my xbox now. I will not perform any systems up dates since that's what got me into this mess. THANKS AGAIN

  • any idea's what i can do to fix that??

  • i just installed a new laser and it's giving me open tray error on a benq drive.

  • Awesome video

  • My xbox was giving me the "Dirty cd error" and only was working 50% of the time. I have never done anything like this before and it worked great! There is NO solder point that needs to be removed. Great video! The laser was only $18 shipped to my house.

  • Hello is there a solder point that has to be removed before install if so where is it.

    Thanks

  • Hello is there a solder point I will need to remove from the new laser if so where is it.

    Thanks

  • Thanks mate had a broken xbox from last year and it was a benq i had a liteon on my proper xbox and it fits and works perfect i really can belive how easy it is to do follow this giude and u cant fail unless ur replacement laser is fucked aswell

  • After hours of searching the web you find me the answer thanks guys! It worked

  • Great post. I had already bought a laser off someone on ebay and I didnt want to spend $40 to ship out my whole xbox when all I need I think is the laser. I got the no disc error, dvd error as well when I had a game in it and the unreadable disc so this really helped me. I hope I dont have to do a flash now of the firmware which I cant do :D

  • @Sweezelballin Im glad we can help. If you need anything else later on remember to check us out. Game Repair D0T com

  • @gamerepaircom do you sell the lasers for the samsung xbox drives? I just bought one that the try motor was going bad only opened up every 3rd or 4th time and I think the laser is going bad in it as well as sometimes it says unreadable disc or please insert an xbox game etc. Lemme know

    Peace

  • @Sweezelballin I am adding them to our site right now. Should be for sale in about 10 minutes. Laser will cost $14.99.

  • @gamerepaircom I just replace my broken laser with a new one, and flash the drive with ixtreme lt+ 1.1, after insert the disc drive spin disc very fast for 2-3 seconds and stopped. What's the problem, help me please.

  • @klocart I recommend going to xbox-experts for help on flashing drive issues.

  • @kaypee2388 Great. Glad it worked out for you.

  • Quick question. I had my xbox for about three years Now. Should I just replace the laser or just replace everything. My motor works fine I believe because my disc spins and then stops.

  • @marioperez23 Sorry for long respons buddy didnt see this post. Hope you just replaced the lens. typically the drives always stay good.
