@6thsun25 they r more than usefull to greek landscape cause of our many islands(we have 3225 islands).we had bought 4 and now we r using 3 of them casue we used the other one for spares.we r making agreements to buy 12 hovercrafts more(not specific country yet) and 2 more for strategic command of strategic supplies like nukes,warhead codes,satelite comunications and other type which i dont know very well.first well get the 3 new fremms with scalp naval and then well order those hovecrafts.

Greece has many islands, and many passenger-ships...In a war ,the passenger ships would tranfer the main army to the islands...But at the begging of a war we need fast ships to carry as many soldiers they can to a Greek island or to the enemies ground...

@adventchild1001 to get troops as fast as possible to the eastern islands if need be. For the main reinforcements they would probably draft some of the 100s of civil ferries.

Wow that's one hell of a machine. Much props to the designers. It's funny though people hype this thing up yet it's forgotten that it carries armament because someone else will be firing at it as well. Even with these virtual "hover battleships" they'll still need air support to make a safe landing. Otherwise, the Zubr class is one hell of a fucking impressive sight to behold.

Guys ofcourse its a russian hovercraft with american hammers and APCs in its belly....we are greeks and we are in the xroads of East and West..... our military technology comes from both sides ( i prefer russian btw). Genius, american LCACs carry the heavy M1A1 Abrams tanks all of the time. Anyways, hovercraft are used to move troops and equipment from ship to shore after the coastal defenses have been knocked out by air power and targeted missile strikes.

Zenith - 8 sets of portable MANPADS such as "needle".

Zubr would be great for landing tanks on an undefended beach. But if someone deflates the aircushion on one side it will quickly lean to that side and start going in circles. At 65 knots it will overturn.

Zubr would not have been able to land troops in Normandy on D Day in1944, forget about today against a determined coastal defence. But you never know. Its strange appearance may cause shock and awe for a minute or so, enough time to reach the beach.

In short I believe that hovercraft work perfectly for disembarking defensive forces over 100% controlled territory. With even minor coastal gun defence, they can be easily immobilised then sunk with any cheap patrol craft or aircraft. At the same time they are not stalthy at all. Their real advantage is speed, albeit slower than: helicopters, aircrafts, missiles and only marginally faster than many missileboats.

I am a little disappointed the Jason class is so slow, so maybe this is why.

Its hard to slow down a hovercraft so it needs to come ashore very slowly the last kilometer from the beach, at 5 to 10 knots maybe, same speed as an assault landing craft .

I agree that a hovercraft is interesting. Personally, I would prefer to see him landing on sandy beach 300m inland, but greek islan shores look pretty steep (correct me if there are important exceptions). It is fast, but a popping-up helicopter is faster. It is faster than rocket boat with exocets, but deployment time slows down the average. It cannot escape by itself. Very vulnerable to artillery (light...) Noisy and easy to spot.
