  • No bashing? You bashed D&D 4th edition...I love all the D&D editions from 1st to 4th and you bashed it but good. Broke my heart just a little..

  • lol, loved the ending!

  • A man with class, in that you will not bash a game. We all have our favorite systems and it would be so easy to just say "X-game sucks because it uses the X-rule set."

Being that I use a generic rule system I am a bit like Kurt in that when I read through an RPG book I do it to mine nuggets to use in my own home brewed version of it.

  • I agree with you on the only doing positive reviews policy. I've just started doing reviews for RPGs on the blog I do and I've chosen to only do positive reviews as well. My reasoning behind it is I'd rather spend my time talking about good games then telling people about games that might not be the best. The only negative review for a table-top RPG that I've ever done was Dungeons & Dragons 4th edition because I was kind of forced to do that one.

Anyway, great show you have here.

  • "Aaaaaaand were done with the reviews"

    Hahaha! Nice!u

Great job doing these shows man I really enjoy watching your reviews of all these different systems. I sort of wonder how many times you play a system before you review it.

  • "You must have an enormous - AND we're done with the reviews!"

  • love the show man.....been gaming for about 25ish yrs or so myself....I like that you tend to analyze in your review- focusing on the positive pts. I would love to sit in on one of your games as i tend to like stoytelling over simulation as well.

  • yes i like the storytelling the best... i find it as a way to unleash my creative juices

  • "Where di you learn to speak English?" Haha, I find that question funny.

  • 8.. half being my family hehe good one

  • Just found your channel, so I've only watched a few episodes so far. Why not review some of those free downloadable RPG games out there? Anyway, love these videos. I'll be subscribing right now!

  • Is Kurt picking his nose and sticking a booger on the computer at 3:27?

  • No, but it is suspicious....

  • come on... you can't possibly be saying that you don't own 4.0 D&D in your personal library. It's the 800lbs gorilla in the RPG room. Is it that you hate it and don't want to completely tear it apart? I find the new system rather engaging personally.

  • No I don't own 4th ed, but I have read it extensively, and it does benefit from the largess of the "no negative review" polict.

  • I understand the no neg review policy for most RPG games. For plenty of people it will be the first time they'll have heard about the particular game and it would be a shame to scare them off it. (btw I first heard about WoD from Game Geeks and I've really enjoyed it, thx) But when it comes to D&D 4.0, the people need to know. It's everywhere and it's big time. What don't you like about it? Is it just personal preference or do you think it's broken in some areas? Poke the gorilla.

  • Wait for it Padawan...wait for it....

  • I've enjoyed your reviews, but I insist that a critical review and compare contrast format better informs the viewer as to the ups and downs of a game. A bookstore owner or salesmen will only give you positives, but somebody really kicking the tires will bring out the benefit of thier 30 years for us all.

Most of my gaming came from custume world setting using Dnd 2nd edition...some 25 years ago myself.

  • You should have your own channel on digital cable.

  • Hmm... I guess you wouldn't be a GURPS Gamer, considering your take on Simulationist/Cinematic gaming...

  • Another Indepth look at a system like you did with FATE would be Great

  • We should send kurt review copys if we have em. :D ( i would if i had any )

  • I played that D&D game. Damn I feel old.

  • I've played one year... you've thirthy. DAMN! Got a way to go then

  • Thanks for reviewing the way you do Kurt. Oh and thanks again for reviewing Unknown Armies. More power to you. :)

  • Many thanks Kurt - I always enjoy your reviews, gives me a great chance to learn about new ideas and systems I wouldn't otherwise stumble across. Kepp them coming!

  • Thank you for not doing bashing reviews.

  • Here is a weird suggestion: Next time you start a new game or campaign, record it and let us hear the mp3. A lot of us would like to live vicariously though you. ;) hehe.

  • Importent question! Do YOU LARP! Becaus I have theory that LARPing roleplayers tend to go with the freeformlike, less rule based systems I like. And the roleplayers that dont LARP tend to do not.

  • I have to agree with this statement LARP was a huge influence on how I run Games

  • Thank you for continuing to do these reviews. I haven't played RPGs in almost 20 years, but maintian some distant interest in them (and even buy the occasional game book to read through). So your reviews expose me to many new games of which I would otherwise have been totally unaware.

As a suggestion, might you consider in future "episodes" doing survey reviews of entire genres, comparing and contrasting (briefly, obviously) the multiple RPGs available (now and in the past) therein?

  • Like this segment. Hope you do more like this. Thanks.

  • Wouldn't that other show be more of a cousin show?

  • Heresy! How can you not like Warhammer?! :-P

Well, least I finally got an answer to my question. Good job as always Kurt.

  • Any chance of a Legend of the Burning Sands RPG review? It's new and I'd love to hear your opinion.

  • lmao wow you have some wierd fan mail lol!

  • "you must have a really large... and we're done." ROFLMAO!!! I'm guessing that was planned???

  • Here's to 30 more years of your playing and reviewing games.

  • I'm a huge call of cthulhu/ unisystem fan who also plays fast and loose with rules for the sake of plot and I've never truly enjoyed D20, or Warhammer. There, I said it, don't kill me! The difference to me is that role playing is like acting, and I'm not an actor, so I have to be close to the role in order to act well and get lost in it. Warhammer and D20 (to me, I stress) lacks the knowledge of a familiar world and to stick to the rules of that world makes gaming difficult for me.

  • I'm the same. Rules bore the shit out of me. As a player, I'm there mostly to fool around and assist in the creation of an imaginary space. As a GM, I do it for the writing. I don't like having to think about rules as a GM and as a player I think that rules detract from the fun by forcing people to do maths, look at their character sheets, leaf through books and generally think about the rules aspect of playing.

  • Nice work here Kurt. Keep on doing what you're doing.

  • I really enjoy your reviews, as they have given me insight into a lot of games, that I would not have know or had an interest in before. Now I just have to get my hands on one of the books and convince my group to give it a whirl.

  • I'm really glad you've put this on YouTube, otherwise I'd never have seen all those cool reviews you give!

  • Another great show, glad to see you're answering viewer mail. A quick question, why is it that Warhammer doesn't interest you? I'll admit to being a bit of a fanboy, but please don't think I'm attempting to bait/troll you, I'm just curious because you love Call of Cthulhu, seem to enjoy darker urban fantasy games, and Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay can be described as "Call of Cthulhu in a fantasy world" and doesn't have to be as dark as it's made out to be. It just seems like a perfect fit.

  • mmMmmm Okigaoos

  • What is your theme from (is it original)?

    I'm glad there's another free-former out there!

    Great show :D

  • Cool! Thanks for this video, deff. answered some of my questions. Like why you never review Warhammer!
