mandy is one amazing jewish guy and one amazing guy. just saw him on broadway with patti lupone and he is great. his voice is amazing- the range is unbelievable and his power is formidable. he is funny and makes you laugh and then, makes you cry. he is billy bigelow from Carousal, che from Evita, sings Some Enchanted Evening from south Pacific, and more. He is a real star, ad libs and talks to the audience, inspires Patti Lupone to her usual heights, they sing together, hug and kiss. what a show!!!
I was rather shocked to find out about his health problems over the years because he has always seemed the very picture of health onscreen. He's had corneal transplants on BOTH eyes-his eyes were SO BEAUTIFUL in "Yentl" it never occurred to me he was actually beginning to go blind-and has also suffered from prostate cancer. Thank God he is fully recovered now.
I love the look of pure joy on his face when the audience cheers for his little "street noise" bit. What a performer. They don't make them like this anymore.
I was recently introduce to his music and its mind blowing!!! I don't know how I have missed him all my life!! Where have I been??? Probably listening to some trash music that is no worth my time or money :( Oh well!
Thanks for adding this videos, yet I wish there where more!! They are hard to find.
Do you by chance know where I can find a video for the song "Soliloquy"??
If Mandy Patinkin didn't have such a distinctive name, I'd never in a million years have realised this is the same guy that played Inigo Montoya. What magnificent talent.
I know I'm going to feel foolish for asking, but I really am scratching my head with this one: What IS THAT thing that he holds up at the end? That shiny metal box?
@HanBOHobbit ya know i think it might be simulating coffee beans getting poured into a grinder.... gotta listen real close to hear things rolling around in there...
@HanBOHobbit in the original recording the sound effects simulated a coffee shop - I think what he tried on stage here is rattling some silverware in a baking pan to do the same thing...I think; in any case, I've loved this song and the others on his 1989 album 'Mandy Patinkin' since I first bought it on cassette...now on my iPod
Let's try this again. Really late reply to tomsmith127, but the song is by Kander & Ebb (Chicago, Cabaret, Kiss of the Spiderwoman) originally written for the musical 70 Girls, 70 and then also used in a revue show of their songs called And The World Goes Round.
Great Performances on PBS, 1989. I remember stumbling across it by accident almost 20 years ago, which was the first time I realized Indigo Montoya could sing. :D
