Car and Driver states the top speed to be 130. I was hoping it is 155. Please Volvo you need to make the R an M3 beater. But thats the real question. Can it go faster than 130? And can it take on the M3?
@samsingeorzan89 As I said to a previous commenter, R-Design differs between region. In the UK it is an equipment level and in the US it also denotes engine specs. Go to the Volvo UK website for info on the UK-spec vehicle I drove.
@TheSaikou96 R-Design is an equipment level IN THE UK which adds exterior and interior features such as aggressive panelling, unique sports seats, embossed leather with contrast stitch, sport steering wheel and blue gauges to name but a few.
The US market is different with only T5, T6 and R-Design engines offered with yes, 325hp in the R-Design. The 2 markets differ which makes my job a lot harder!
@AdrianC12345 Sorry Adrian, I did leave out a few aspects as we had limited time with the vehicle. The S60 handled very well with excellent corner turn-in and solid amounts of gripping considering we were in the front-wheel drive T3 (and not the AWD T6). Brakes weren't as punchy as I would have liked but this was a press tester so I imagine it must have been pushed to its limits already!
@CarThrottle Thanks for actually answering back (unlike some other video reviwers... LOL). Have you driven the regular S60? I drove that and found it to be much better than the old, but a bit softer and less accurate than the 3 series but a good match for the A4 and would absolutely kill a C-"Class".
@AdrianC12345 The AWD is also not a handler becuse of the heavy front wheel bias, stomp the gas in a turn and the front tires will spin till the traction control comes on and brakes on some of that power
@CrazyDave650 The S60 R-Design is getting a slightly modded AWD system than the regular T6 model, since now it's getting 325 hp and 354 pounds feet of torque. And it's only front bias until the car detects wheel spin then it sends more power rearward, and since the latest haldex system is very responsive wheelspin isn't a problem. So that would mean that the only S60 to spin its wheels would be the FWD T5.
@AdrianC12345 I drove the T6 AWD and it spun the front wheels like a wheel of fortune, theres alot of work to be done before they can compeat with subaru and audi in awd systems.
@CrazyDave650 ??? I drove it at "The Naughty Tour" The front wheels lit up for like a second at the most, then it just pulled me forwards. Mabey crappy tarmac or crappy all seasons? And that's really not true, you should see how well the XC60/XC70 are off roading and they have the same system. Volvo's new AWD systems are probably just short of Audi's but can handle anything else, look at some of the videos.
@CarThrottle What do you mean "minimum insurance age"? Is there no way a person under 25 in Europe can get the T6 model?? I'm moving to the Netherlands in a few months from American and I'm looking to buy an S60 or an A5 so I'm curious. Thanks!
@beastman101 Ah, as a member of the press, Volvo's insurance policy for press testers only covers over-25's on the more powerful variants such as the T6 or the C30 Polestar for example. To purchase one yourself there is no age limit! But be prepared to fork out a load in insurance if you're under 25 (and male) with a powerful engine!

I'll take my S60R.... The new ones don't handle so well... Very sad but true. The suspension is way too soft even on the T6 model.

"Good" job with the volume-level on the video! Music is way too loud compared to the commentary.

Too bad Volvo didn't give you the beautifly torquy 300 hp/325 pounds feet of torque T6 model.

@AdrianC12345 Hah we would have loved that Adrian but unfortunately it doesn't help that I'm not 25 yet (Volvo's insurance minimum age)!
