  • I think it's a good idea, once the balancing issues are sorted out it's a great way to find out if what your doing to your bike is actually making a difference. Rather than just going off the seat of your pants

  • Try explaining why a accident happened to your insurer, '' well i had my bike 4 feet off the ground on a big metal drum we took from a steam roller on a home made dyno i made while doing 170MPH '' and bang goes your no claims bonus.

  • This is the funniest thing I have ever seen on youtube. You guys are awesome!

  • How did you make the drum? it is balanced?

  • The drum is the rear roller off a little "steam roller". We bought it from an excavation company for $20. It is definitely NOT balanced which is why the whole stand was jumping up and down on the first pull.

Our next step is to balance the roller. I found a method to dynamically balance it with two accelerometers, an oscilloscope and a whole lot of math. We have everything needed but it is cold outside so it's been pushed to the back burner.

  • great attempt. can you explain what math idea's you used to support your accuracy?

  • We aren't really concerned with accuracy. Our goal is to make it consistent and repeatable so we can see the effect of jetting and timing changes.

I was inspired to start this project after reading the TDK Motorsports Inertia Dyno web site. The basic concept, and math, came from them. Though, our setup is considerably different and I wrote my own software.
