  • Thinking of Carl Sagan's earliest atheism....thinking of the latest Carl....thinking of Carl's encounter with The Mighty Power of the Universe....thinking about his legacy....thinking of his blinking eyes. Thank you Carl.

  • Carl Sagan will live one forever thank you God and Hulu

  • PBS was so much better than Discovery! I grew up with PBS science shows and today I'm a scientist studying Astronomy, Physics & Cybernetics )

  • profound

  • Mi ricordo che guardavo la serie Cosmos alla televisione bulgara perche gli stronzi comunisti manco questa la mandavano in rete, non ho mai capito il motivo.Comunque per me Vangelis non era uno sconosciuto, anzi'.

  • Thank you undorsten the life car sagan.........

  • THUMBS UP FOR THE MESSAGE IN MY PROFILE...

  • this song makes me think that not too distant future we will be crying watching this video that has not been shit of our wonderful planet.....I showed this song to a friend and he mock, now says he is addicted to vangelis, and has already seen the entire series of cosmos, even shed tear when he saw the last chapter where it says "a cosmic voyage "

  • @RatOfGrey Just watch Cosmos, and you'll understand what this music evokes for the rest of us.

  • um, ok, first of all this is NOT a troll... i'm just simply voicing my opinion.

im not saying this guy is bad, not at all, i think he's good at his thing, but it's not AMAZING... i mean, to me it doesn't sound overwhelmingly brilliant, like a lot of the comments make it out- am i missing something?

  • This is what music is! Vangelis is the pride of Greece... <3 Like like like like like like like like............

  • This should receive billions and billions of likes.

  • @MrEv1310 Technically, he never said that. In fact, he said it only once for the sake of people being able to quote him as having said it.

  • @hotelmario510 - I was actually aware of the fact that he never said this. I believe an actor on SNL who used to impersonate him was the one who first said it, but I can't remember who it was.

  • I always cry when I hear this musical piece. I love you, Carl... I miss you...

  • Recuerdos para el magnífico divulgador CARL SAGAN, me enseño mucho con su serie de televisión.

  • 66 people are depressed

  • @guruartist I am depressed but I listen to music in order to relieve my anxiety

  • chissa perché gli elementi principali sono sempre due !

  • I Think I am Therefore I am

  • There are billions of stars in our galaxy, and billions of galaxies in the universe. So if it's just us... what an awful waste of space!. Carl Sagan forever.

  • Thank you Profesor Carl Sagan :)!

  • FissionNonStop.eu nasci 5 dias depois da morte de Carl Sagan.

  • One of the attributes of Carl Sagan was his patience. The man could stand in a room full of prattling idiots and never raise his voice.

  • I loved that series when it first aired in the fall of 1980.

  • Ever since I found this video a couple of weeks ago, I play it sometimes twice a day as it soothes me. The visualization is a perfect match for Heaven and Hell.

Far off in the distance it seems I can see Carl........smiling..........

  • Always thought Vangelis should re-record this album. While he had the CS-80 by then, he didn't have the Lexicon 224, and was relying on older recording equipment which was upgraded less than four years later.

Listen to the sound quality difference between this album, and China, Mask or Direct, to hear what I mean. One could only imagine how Heaven & Hell would sound with a superior recording.

  • @zenmachinefilms are they roland synths youre talking about? im thinking of getting one...can you recommend a good all-rounder that doesnt cost an arm and a leg?!

  • @MeloloB - Vangelis key synth back then was a Yamaha CS-80, which is now rare. You have 3 choices:

    • Buy an old synth like a Waldorf Q or Access Virus KC. It won't have quite the same analog sound as a CS-80. But is a great synth. $1000

    • Buy an old Ensoniq SQ-80, which has analog filters. But it doesn't have knobs like the above synths - harder to program your own sounds. $300

    • Buy some soft synths, like Arturia CS-80v, RP Predator, Uh-he Zebra, etc. Good sound, hard to program. $300-600

  • So you'd like us to be primitive zombies under some fascistic rule of one kind or another, so you can achieve some vision of your perfect world? No thanks. All of the greatest things in this world were created by individuals working in a competitive society. And the modern world improves upon that by making us all individuals, not slaves building pyramids to the vision of one great one. And modern commerce is the leveler. Not everyone will have the same outcome, but we're free to strive.

  • Aaaaaah........

    AWESOME.

    I miss Carl.

  • La canción al final me cansa un poco, no me gustan las subidas tan largas pero su comienzo y su melodia es de lo más grandioso que se puede escuchar en esta vida.

  • Toda una obra de arte!!!

  • Thanks you, Carl Sagan...

  • @Darkfantasy55 and thank you Vangelis ^^

  • Does anyone know who picked this music for Cosmos? Was it Carl's wife maybe? I'm sure you'll agree it is a perfect match for that series.

  • y sino, cuanto espacio desaprovechado (carl)

  • Carl...

  • titredim mk

  • *** Sagan!!!

  • Se te extraña Carl Seagan!!!

  • SIEMPRE RECORDARE A CARL UN SER HUMANO CON LOS PIES EN LA TIERRA

  • THE BEST OF VANGELIS THE LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • On another planet, in another solar system far off in the Universe, a civilization like ours floats lost in the enternal waves of the Cosmos, and they too have a person like Sagan, whom makes astronomy exciting and stimulaes the minds of their people to make them wonder what is beyond them and if they are to ever meet up with their long lost family.

  • I was 6 years and 7 days old when Carl Sagan died....I never met the man, but the fact that we both lived under the same star for 6 years and 7 days at the same time...it brings me peace

  • @FissionNonStop Are you actually fucking serious? Just because another man was alive the same time you were?

/inb4 OMG HE DID LIEK STARS AND SHIT!

    Still, just a man.

  • @TheModCon

    lol fag

  • @FissionNonStop You serious? You've got bro love on some guy (again inb4 stars and shit) you never met, just happened to be alive at the same time. and IM the faggot?

    LAWL dichotic

  • @TheModCon you need to chill, dude

  • @sintenolwe I'm chilled bro.

  • @TheModCon well, you're just a faggot

  • @FissionNonStop Happy birthday :) done the math and you are 5 years and 2 days older than me resulting in your birthday somewhere near today :)

  • @FissionNonStop merry christmas dude/dudette but im pretty sure sagan would have corrected you to say there are 400 billion stars in our milky way :p

  • This is a classic. The composer (Vangelis), the messenger (Carl Sagan) and the Greatness of the Universe - all in one. Magic. Just magic.

  • This takes me back to when I was a child and Carl Sagan didn't talk down to me on TV, but led me, to a better world.

  • I know i am insignificant, yet i feel special.

Im insignificant, because the universe is colossal in size and immensly vast compared to my little world here.

Im special because I get to see the beauty that is the cosmos. - An Atheist.

  • Those who comprehend and understand. Those who are curious and bright. Those that realize what's at stake miss you, Carl.

  • <3

  • Genius

  • Eternal

  • VERY VERY GOOD !

  • Cosmos was such a great Tv show. It inspired me as a kid and every clear night I find myself looking to the stars.

  • Something is missing, Carl Sagan's words!

  • fumate algo y miralo, esta genial!

  • vangelis created a poetic melody .. it's as if every time you hear ... Your message would be understood ..... For other hand...Since I listened it...COSMOS has been my standard in times of need for peace and understanding ...totally thanks! (: Greetings from mexico

  • " You are the universe and the universe are you"... .. Sagan knew it.... His passion transcended to share to the world and it was a witness....

Maybe you left .. But your heart always lives in the universe and its mysteries.

  • Given that we don't yet know everything about existence, and that the scientific idea of first cause ("something from nothing") is just as illogical as the religious version, there may yet be room for such a thing as a Creator... and possibly an afterlife... and therefore possibly a chance to meet Sagan one day.

  • Otimo, bom demais, me apaixonei desde que assisti a Mini Série pela Globo, la por volta de 1970/80 não me recordo muito bem

  • The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.

    Psalm 19 : 1 (KJV)

  • @bicepius And thy invisible being and friend also watchith thee masturbate.

  • @ Tobacc0 and gouryellaTENSHI: I think you both are caught up in semantics. It is interesting that humans innately wish others to accept them for what they believe, yet beliefs are intangible and unprovable. Being a theist, deist, atheist, agnostic, whatever, is irrelevant to me. It only matters to you, the individual. I support you both, in whatever you believe.

  • I'm sure Carl is out there exploring the Universe on a different plane or dimension , if you read his book , then his idea's would not be contrary , as in anything is possible anywhere in time and space .Go Carl see it all.

  • Magnifique...

  • lo mejor delo mejor

  • Awesome!!!!

  • PRECIOSO TEMA!!!! me encanta Vangelis!

  • etwas schönnstes im mein leben habe ich nicht gesehen!!Wünderschön..BRAVO!!!

  • BRAVO!!! CHEERS / НАЗДРАВЉЕ !!!

  • beautiful

  • It's like energy vibrating and dancing with the music.

  • And I thought that "Vangelis" was a love lubricant.(Shows you where my head is at!)

  • Man I cried too hearing this reminded me when I saw the Milyway at it's brightest for the first time , it changed my life for ever and when I feel scared or alone that's the one place to think and no one can't take it away from me ;)

  • GOD =

Generator, Observer, Destroyer = The big bang, the mantainence and the big crunch. Om Hare Om

  • Un viaje personal por el COSMOS

  • @mlhaske what loss is there to mourn? his memory lives on within us.

  • @BeyondTheIdentity whose memory?

  • @BeyondTheIdentity Vangelis is alive and kicking

  • a new age masterpiece...equals beethoven's ninth...

  • La música de una espectacular serie de televisión sobre cosmología, COSMOS de Carl Sagan, científico que diseño el viaje a de la sonda Vogayer a Marte para analizar la posibilidad de vida allí.

  • TENSHI san - I agree that the Universe is indeed a wondrous thing. In current theory it started with the Big Bang.Even if it is a series of expanding / contracting universes - the matter had to come from somewhere. Biggest law in current physics is: No matter can be created nor destroyed. So who put all the matter there? Have to say the Almighty - call him God, Father, Allah, Yahweh or whatever. Who started the Big Bang?

  • @josatab The deepest mind. You can feel it, don't you? Theory is one thing and mind is the another one.. and maybe that is the reason, why is the explanation of "Big Bang" possible via waves of sound only..

  • @gouryellaTENSHI What?!

  • @gouryellaTENSHI This whole conversation is confusing me!

  • For all there was,

    For all there is,

For all there will be.... The Cosmos

  • Whenever I hear this song... I am on the verge of tearing up. Not only because of its beauty, but it reminds me of the first time I saw the Cosmos. And how I'll never have the experience of seeing it for the first time again.

But worst of all, how I will never get to speak with Carl. It would have been a dream come true, just to talk to him once, and listen to the pure poetry that he lets free with every word spoken.

  • @Zeus0Moose You too? I saw this as a child. I was never the same.

  • @Zeus0Moose I feel the same way. I've never been the same after hearing just the sheer beauty of the piece, but clearly, in combination with the adventure that the great storyteller led us through, just to the edge of reality.. I still mourn his loss.

  • @Zeus0Moose --So true man! We (I) miss Carl so much! A visionary we need him now! He is among the stars now you know! And I am not really religious!

  • @franthree Carl himself said we are starstuff. And like you i feel he has gone back to the stars. A great man, one of the few people able to see life on earth as it really is ... from the standpoint of the cosmos. I've still got his book Cosmos!

  • @sitithesecond ---Nice comments! I agree totally! I purchased the COSMOS DVD set a while ago and it is a treasure to share with family indeed!

  • @Zeus0Moose dont worry....i have the same problem....everything you say is my problem too....i cried while i was watching pictures of cosmos on google planet...so beautiful,so untouchable..and i will never be able to see it,experience it...

  • @Zeus0Moose wow...well said!

  • @Zeus0Moose My friend, i was about to say the same thing, and reading your comment..........all i can say, i agree with you, it made me fell the same way, would like to belive Carl Sagan was an inspiration to all a generation . bye Zeus0Moose

  • @Zeus0Moose i met carl sagan at a resteraunt 30 years ago. he was having clam chowder and i sauntered over and asked how he liked his soup. i'll never forget what he said..."me wuvs my chowdy..chowdy dowdy..clamie whammy in my jammie". that son of a bitch was a poet.

  • @Zeus0Moose

I know what you mean and thumbs up but from the various celebrities I have met the most kind was Ann Rice.

The worst of the worst I met was Mary Lou Retton along with a reporter Dan Solly who reported years back about the abduction of AU student held for political reasons in and around Thailand years back.

  • @Zeus0Moose The first part is really emo.

  • @H1TMANactual lol, agreed

  • @Zeus0Moose Man that is keeping it real......

  • @Zeus0Moose I met Carl and shook his hand at Vanderbilt University a long time ago. This music makes me tear up too...it makes me feel connected to everything.

  • KÄLI

  • Équinoxe 5 si te plante tu est viré par les animaux

  • i dont think carl sagan was the best man who ever lived. he was passionate about science, true. but there were better men, not only in science.

  • I fricken love Carl Sagan and Vangelis. Everyone who likes music needs to check out the band Aphrodite's Child.

  • i have heard this movement was by a Arp Pro Soloist Synthesiser, i have 2 of them ,is it correct that it was???

  • on s'est pas trompé avec le nucléaire

  • It's just an opinion, I know, but this is not Vangelis at his best; he appears to have suffered from 'writer's block' after the opening bars, and the piece is not as developed or complete as it could be. Apart from the beginning (which is superb), only those deep, filter swept rolls at the end really stick in the mind; otherwise it is actually quite monotonous!

Even the best of us don't always get it right.

  • @functionalist972 don't be too practical on it, it was just an expression i used to express my own admiration to someone I have a great respect for and there is no practical unit of measurement for that. Different people will find different people to be their "best" person. It varied from one to another.

  • I imagine this music playing at the end of the world

  • watch?v=6oDXRoA7msA for all Vangelis fan's watch please!!!!!!!!

  • the only question is: why does exist something instead of nothing?

  • Dear Carl,

The quest for truth is the wonder of our minds capacity to become aware, for our minds can break free of the shackles of feebleness, insolence, the corrupted mind.

For you Carl, you are a cure, may even after you passing continue to sever the links this bind us to the feeble masses, and free our minds so they may traverse and wonder without limits, without boundaries, without people saying "You're no good" I thank you Carl for you are a true warrior of truth. Bless you Carl.

  • an unparalleled musical imagination, i listen to something from hime every day, it calms me down and sets me up for the post workday relaxation

  • esta musica é maravilhosa

  • Comment removed

  • @MrLukasart Two Inseparable "....... Great!

  • Awe inspiring, the music and the man.

  • I so definitely like the video! :-)

  • I can say, that I do not believe in God as that has been told and as it is given to us by all of these religions around the World.

On the other hand, I am not an atheist.

    My almighty is Universe.

In Universe should everybody trust as we all are part of it.

    Forever and ever.

And for those 55's... just raise your head and open your eyes!

  • @gouryellaTENSHI

I think that definition of god still makes you an Atheist though, unless you belief that the universe is a person. Which I'm pretty sure is not what your saying, You've redefined god as anything you hold dear, or anything awe inspiring, And thats fine, I use it that way too. But unless you think the universe is a sentient deity its not theism and so it's an atheistic position... Or perhaps your going more in the direction of Spinozism?

  • @Cha4k Indeed.

  • @gouryellaTENSHI There are many other religions in the World besides the traditional Judeo-Christian, monotheistic (One God) one that you refer to. You should explore some of the others, the so-called Pagan religions that follow spiritual beliefs that probably would be more to your liking.

  • @gouryellaTENSHI Very beautiful your thinking and especially the concept you have of God. Yours faithfully.

  • @gouryellaTENSHI for that reasoning you are awarded one star

  • @gouryellaTENSHI Universe is my religion too...

  • @gouryellaTENSHI That is Pantheism. I am one as well, an old religion.

  • @Lordvanderbelt Nice to meet ya ;)

  • @gouryellaTENSHI this needs to be a global epiphany, revelation, on the grandest scale. A universal shift in perception/consciousness. We need to come together, set aside all of this ideology, materialism, industry, mainstream conditioning.. and see life/wonder& imagine our capability as a synergistic whole. Thus, not only improving the quality of our fleshy existence, but to save society from becoming complete zombies without parole. AWAKEN

  • @XxXHouseOfPainXxX ...and there is nothing more to say. Thank you.

  • @gouryellaTENSHI Peace my friend

  • @XxXHouseOfPainXxX

    Said the man named XxXHouseOfPainXxX

  • @THUNDERLIZARD8 lol!!!

  • @XxXHouseOfPainXxX those are some clever words good sir

  • @Melancolia793 check out this interview.. Bruce Lipton: The power of consciousness.

  • @gouryellaTENSHI if you dont believe in god, you are an atheist. you either believe in god, or you are an atheist.

    atheist/theist is a true dichotomy.

  • @volound I'm a deist. We fit neatly in between...

  • @Tobacc0 there is no in between. just as there is no north of the north pole. atheist/theist is a true dichotomy.

    deists are theists.

  • @Tobacc0

A Deist is a Theist. Deists believe in a God, just one that doesn't intervene, but they still believe in a God. Indeed, Atheism/Theism is an actual dichotomy. You either do or you don't. The reasons for why and why not, and the specifics are used in other terms. Agnostics are either Atheist or Theist, if they believe in a God like Theists, then they are Atheist. Pantheists are Theists as they believe in a God that is synonymous with the universe.

  • @gouryellaTENSHI You're a naturalistic pantheist. Look up the term.

  • @gouryellaTENSHI Me too. The Bible says clearly that God is love, creation, existence... Sounds like the Big Man was the Big Bang, the universe and everything in it to me. Religious texts, despite what cynicists may think, essentially a poetic attempt at early science. It is astonishing to me not how much they got wrong, but just how close they got to the truth, albeit through metaphor and parable. The universe works in mysterious ways!

  • @ukulazy Indeed..

  • @gouryellaTENSHI i totally agree whit you

  • @ricardoleony Thank you..

  • i never knew vangelis made this epic tune. carl sagan rip

  • Que canción más profunda, no creo que exista otro tema que huviese encajado mejor con la serie.

  • Two reasons why I became interested in astronomy. Patrick Moore and Dr Carl Sagan.

  • one of the reasons that i became a mathematician was listening to Carl Sagan TV series with this music by Vangelis

  • Vangelis vs Jarre 10-0

  • @alexnordh

Apparently Jarre just scores 11 points, so it's 10-11 now.

But both are great musicians who's music i can enjoy very much. No need to bring one down to praise the other.
