I can relate. On a regulation-height goal at that. I just saw "White Men Can't Jump" in its entirety for the first time a few weeks ago. The part where Woody Harrelson attempts to dunk, and finally does it off of Snipes' alley-oop in the last game is glorious wish-fulfillment. The reaction was absolutely perfect, and I'd probably do the same if I pulled off a dunk. Come so close many times. Keep playing, and you'll probably surprise yourself.
