Know what's funny? All of you are complaining about this song, but it's actually EXTREMELY SIMILAR to the Siege music in Act 5 of Diablo 2. The "actionish" part of this song sounds very close if not the same as the "actionish" part of the music from D2. If you're interested in seeing what I mean watch?v=KitaMDICX2w is the music from D2. The "actionish" part starts about 1 minute and 30 seconds in.

@Nothization D2 was maybe a little creepy; it was dark, depressing, and mysterious. D1 was a lot creepier than D2. But what i meant by my comment was the music itself being creepy, like D1. That was a huge factor in it.

Swords like from Berserk and Final Fantasy seems a bit too...fantastic for a game like this. No one could accuse this game series to be realistic, but characters at least obey the laws of physics...sort of.
@AnomalyINC yes exactly ! the point is that diablo allways had that gothic european style to it and many great games are now having seaquels that reseble more final fantasy than original game (like dragon age 2 or dungeon siege 3) if you played dungeon siege 1or 2 and dragon age you know what i mean...
You didn't generally hear the title theme for Diablo 2 while playing the game. (I have not played enough Diablo to remember if it's the same deal) Blizzard has a decent habit of coming up with good background music (I do not count WoW in this regard)
@Sceptorful I'm kinda sad Matt Uelmen isn't on the soundtrack for this, but yeah--I'm sure they still understand how essential music is for the atmosphere. I feel like most games have quite a few ambient tracks to balance out the orchestral bits, so hopefully those will be creepy enough! :D (The Diablo II: LoD OST is almost entirely orchestal, btw.)
I like Diablo 2's Alot better. But this stuff is alright. It doesn't set the mood for a zombie horror as well as Diablo 2 but what it does do is give you a good sense of action and fighting.
Eh...I don't much mind the orchestral feel to it, but it needs to ALL be dark. All those little moments that it seems like "the sun is shining through" or whatever need to piss off.
Spread the word! Someone please start a fund raising project on kickstarter to fund Matt Uelmen to begin writing more of his great works! And to find a small group of dev's/modders who will mod Diablo 3 accordingly when its released!

@kguy1 Me too.. his music was EPIC. This music is good too production wise.. but Matt's music just had this folky charm to it. D3 music so far sounds sort of like generic medieval themed movie score. Nothing really memorable like the Tristram theme..

Yea, ive played all of them, diablo, diablo II and exp pack, none of these games have let me down, and so I dont get all caught up in the color thing, however the music from diablo was some of the best stuff ever made, and I'm not bashing the music, it;s awesome and did scare me, but if you dont like the color, mess with the contrast, also the soundtrack was what made these games in my opinion, not the dark color.
It makes no sense to use the argument that the older games were "darker" and had a darker sound track. Blizzard didn't have a personal orchestra and were running on some really old engines where you couldn't really create a vibrant, believable world half the time. To say this isn't dark at all means you have a small idea of what "dark" means.
lol, the game director was going to change it to a darker version like diablo 1 and 2 demonic horror themed but he quit and new director just left the current version so you have no idea what youre talking about
Sigh, actually I know about Christian Lichtner being the new art director, so don't get all high and mighty. The debate is over whether the game is dark compared to the older games. I believe that it is, and that its soundtrack is too, and blizzard clearly thinks so since they kept the same styling despite having a new art director.

This D3 music is not great but not awful either. I'd say it's better than D2 but worse than D1
A few songs from Diablo 1 exist in Diablo 2 but with slight changes, saying that you liked Diablo 1 but not Diablo 2 music is really stupid if you ask me.
All songs are not about the same in those two games but they are a lot more similar then what Diablo 3 soundtrack looks like as of now...
@Xerlane Yea I guess I was a little harsh on D2 cause there were some parts I liked but overall it was much weaker than D1. Having played both games I can safely say D1 music is a lot more powerful and creepy. Maybe it was just D2's "world" that didn't connect with the music, regardless, it didn't work for me. D3 certainly is different but it's not without its charm

@SteelCrash I have not played Dungeon Siege, but I did play Dragon Age 1 and 2, and...well, the first one was better, NWN-style.
Personally, I think I will be happy with this game as long as it is longer that, say Dragin Age 2.
And when it boils down to it, as long as I get to bash open Big Red's skull, I could not care less what size my weapon is.

I listened to some of his soundtracks, and for some reason whenever I hear the heavy drums in his songs it reminds me of the first Diablo.

Can't say this does much for me just listening to it on its own, but it seemed to fit the gameplay video well so we'll see.
1:34 - 1:45 or so is good stuff, though.

@kguy1 Me too.. his music was EPIC. This music is good too production wise.. but Matt's music just had this folky charm to it. D3 music so far sounds sort of like generic medieval themed movie score. Nothing really memorable like the Tristram theme..

People I honestly think this game will be great. Stop saying how this game is compared to diablo 1 and 2.
And I find the theme very good to listen while playing the game watch the demo with the barbarian and witch doctor. Wait for the game to come out.

Any sequel must be prepared to face harsh criticism, and everyone seems to nit pick games for every single thing they find wrong, you just can't please everyone.
Yea this game will be awesome, at least give it a chance, we know it's not from your favorite blizz north guys but let's face it they were doing a bad job and thats why they were rid of.
I for one can't wait to get my hands on D3.

music that thinks it's a big deal.
when your soundtrack lacks originality... add some harps, a chorus, and a bit of DUM-DUM-DUM a la Iron Chef America.
don't forget the obligatory bell toll.
it's only saving grace is that certain parts are reminiscent of Wojciech Kilar's work on the 1992 Dracula score.
btw, the wailing woman at the beginning makes me feel awkward... not creepy or scared, i.e. original Diablo, but rather... embarrassed. ridiculous.

i think all that stuff you talk about ( harps, chorus, bell toll, the woman at the beginning) exist because they have a connection to christianity. and when you think about the game (the devil, catacombs, churchs, etc.), it's not wrong.
also there are a lot of music which has chorus, bells, etc.

This theme is completely overdone. It's short and forced.
The wailing in the beginning is really awful.
The wood instrument at the end of the crescendoes sounds REALLY REALLY BAD

It's trying to springboard offa Warcraft's rather interesting themes to begin with, then they're giving the rest of it the Phantasy Star and Dexter's Laboratory treatment... Whaddaya expect; perfection? PLEASE.

Listen, I dont like people who are saying this game wont be great, and call it a wow clone, people assume this game will be too colorful, let me say this, sometimes it looks that way, but others it looks darker, and the bosses look BIGGER and even more evil,this game adds monsters crawling up from bridges and stuff, you need not worry about the terror they will have, this game wont be a WOW clone, if it was I wouldnt buy it, this game could be EPIC or bust, but Id bet it will be awesome, D3

Yea, ive played all of them, diablo, diablo II and exp pack, none of these games have let me down, and so I dont get all caught up in the color thing, however the music from diablo was some of the best stuff ever made, and I'm not bashing the music, it;s awesome and did scare me, but if you dont like the color, mess with the contrast, also the soundtrack was what made these games in my opinion, not the dark color.

It makes no sense to use the argument that the older games were "darker" and had a darker sound track. Blizzard didn't have a personal orchestra and were running on some really old engines where you couldn't really create a vibrant, believable world half the time. To say this isn't dark at all means you have a small idea of what "dark" means.

lol, the game director was going to change it to a darker version like diablo 1 and 2 demonic horror themed but he quit and new director just left the current version so you have no idea what youre talking about

Sigh, actually I know about Christian Lichtner being the new art director, so don't get all high and mighty. The debate is over whether the game is dark compared to the older games. I believe that it is, and that its soundtrack is too, and blizzard clearly thinks so since they kept the same styling despite having a new art director.

It certainly makes it more epic. The subtleties of the first Diablo's song truly set the scene for a mysterious game though.

I agree, but since when was Diablo's selling point epic? I agree that it is perhaps a better idea, since it might be hard to creep and downright bring fear into a player the same way they did 96', 'cause people are much more jaded now. But still.

@Xerlane Diablo (1) did have great music, made it so much more scary. Diablo 2, however, I don't feel had the same impact on me, in fact I did not care for it at all.
This D3 music is not great but not awful either. I'd say it's better than D2 but worse than D1

A few songs from Diablo 1 exist in Diablo 2 but with slight changes, saying that you liked Diablo 1 but not Diablo 2 music is really stupid if you ask me.
All songs are not about the same in those two games but they are a lot more similar then what Diablo 3 soundtrack looks like as of now...

@Xerlane Yea I guess I was a little harsh on D2 cause there were some parts I liked but overall it was much weaker than D1. Having played both games I can safely say D1 music is a lot more powerful and creepy. Maybe it was just D2's "world" that didn't connect with the music, regardless, it didn't work for me. D3 certainly is different but it's not without its charm

That's the problem, Diablo isn't as ambient as it used to be. They need to go back to atmospheric ambient music, like Diablo 1 and some Diablo 2.
