What about the fact that mutations lose information? Would that conflict with this? Would that mean that humans would have had to come first? I know that down syndrome technically gains information, but I know that evolution does not rest on the fact of down syndrome to evolve. Someone explain tis please.

Mutations don't necessarily lose information. Deletions cause a loss of genetic information (technically) but even then new features can arise. Here is a simple example:

THE FROG WAS RED

Now we will mutate it with a deletion:

THE FOG WAS RED

Even by removing a piece of information (the R), it still brings about a new set of info. In the case of DNA a different protein will be made. Keep in mind you can have new bases inserted or bases duplicated as well.
