  • q tal voz, q tal grupo

  • ma e feminello

  • with that begining it's a pitty they didn't have some visual effects "pink floyidian" kind

  • To give credit where credit is due, however: Pagan's Mind's sound wouldn't exist without there having been a Dream Theater. Images & Words album, specifically.

  • Some parts certainly remember to "Learning to live"

  • Crap, listen to this. It's spot-on. Pagan's Mind truly is one of the finest groups recording and touring this decade.

Pagan's Mind is everything I had hoped Dream Theater would become post its first few records. Never materialized. Not to mention Nils' talents outshine James' by a large margin. And Jorn is a vastly more interesting guitar player than is John.

But I still support DT, regardless.

However, Pagan's Mind is one of my absolute fave "new" bands.

  • That's how I feel about all this. Couldn't say it better. Agreed on absolutely everything which is a rare thing ;)

  • Thanks. The most recent Dream Theater album is the first I haven't bought since I discovered the band with its debut all those years ago. Just don't care anymore. It's Pagan's Mind all the way for me. And, of course, the GODLY Fates Warning.

  • @TheTrueFortress they formed in the 90's gather facts

  • @bo31n9

Thanks. Gather an education in writing.

  • @TheTrueFortress I would have to disagree... But thats me!

  • :) love this band to pieces!!!

  • I dont care who the hell is better, if circus, pagans, andromeda, dream.

I just like them all in its different styles of aproaching Prog rock metal.

  • i wish they would put out a damned dvd already! they promised one back in 2005, but the audio was messed up and they had to scrap it or something like that

  • Well, they recorded some at the consert at november the 1st at Rockefeller, Norway, this year. Dont know anything about the release though.

  • there is one now, I think... =)

  • I think he forgot his lyrics here and there, but that's okay because that vocalist is fucking amazing anyway.. The rest of the band too, by the way... ANd I'm seeing them live soon. :D

  • great song.

  • Get used to the fact that dumb fuckers are gonna call every prog band a DT clone.

    A list of obvious differences.

    Pagan's Mind:

    1)Doesnt have elaborate Petrucci solos

2)Is pretty simple.. almost always 4/4. Compound time and odd meter is almost non-existent. The use and abuse of odd meter is easily DT's most obviously prominent characteristic. It is absent here.

3)Very obvious vocal differences. Nils has more contrast and LaBrie goes for the clean pretty boy thing.

  • This DT and PM argument is annoying the shit out of me. WHO CARES! Both bands are equally as talented and both have their OWN distinct ORIGINAL sounds. That's that, both bands are extremely talented and amazing, that's all that should be said. People, everyone has their own opinion and to argue over DT and PM HHA! that's a joke.

But anyways doesn't Jorn Viggo look like Paul Gilbert from afar? lol

  • This song was actually a tribute to that Dream theater song..... thats why they are so similar.. do some research before you open your mouth. honestly though, i like this style of music more than dream theater. i like how its more ambient.. and more about out of body experiences... this band has really got me thinking about so many things. SUCH A GREAT BAND!

  • DT this DT that. Whatever; Saying that is like saying Meshuggah got all thier inspiration from Deep Purple. Everyone get's thier inspiration from something but using the root of all modern progressive metal as an example for inspiration is starting to bore the piss out of me. These guys are a mix. If you havn't heard of space metal yet, looks like it is becoming an active genre now as wierd as it is. Now people...please stop with the DT crap.

  • Dude this band rocks man. I saw them last week live in Holland and they were great...5 *****

  • THIS song is like learning to live,DT .nothing to say.

  • Its a tribute ffs

  • surprisingly great video/sound quality. impressive compositions. even if it's not your favorite you gotta give these guys respect. putting songs of this length and depth together is pretty damn hard to do.

  • LOL martintyrrell:

PM IS NO FUCKIN POWERMETAL BAND.

listen to the effects. its almost identical to what dreamtheater is using. their just turning up the volume on the effects.

dragonforce and hammerfall is good exampels of powermetal. listen to the vokal too. its the same way as DM.

what im telling you is: Pagan's mind create their music with inspiration from DreamTheater. and if you cant hear that it has to be somthing wrong with you. OMG!

  • pagan's mind is awesome but let's not forget that they obviously have a high DT influence. and don't get me wrong, i love pagan's mind.but martin if you want a band to be compared with dream theater, then it's spiral architect.listen to all the songs from skeptic's universe, then tell me about constant time signature changes.

  • hmmmm....people seem to hating on Pagan's Mind. They are on my top 5 favorite bands ever.

  • I hate when people compare any other prog bands with Dream Theater, these guys are much better then DT was, is and ever will be.

    Dt is overrated, grow up.

  • Please, please explain how this band are better than DT lol.

For a start, this is a power metal band, not fuckin' prog

  • Harder,better vocalist,i love their heavy sound.

I cant really discribe it, they are just much better.

All you people think about is that DT has all these "fantastic" artists, well, they are, so they have to be great just by that?, they have some good songs, but not many, all of pagans mind songs is mindblowing awesome.

And PM is progressive metal. :-)

  • I suggest you listen to some liquid tension experiment:

Acid Rain, Universal Mind, When the Water Breaks.

  • gtfo martin.

  • ITS prog metall...the first album had alot of power...but they are prog metall!

and i personly like this band much better than DT because jørn viggo (guitar) is very a influenced BLues/Rock guitarist and you can hear some Van Halen of him....

they are not perfect live seen 'em....but it takes skills to perform such songs live with studio sound....some few more years maybe!

  • Kenjen89 I totally agree with you on that comment , Nils blows James away. Pagan's Mind is music and Dream Theater is just a bunch of mind less noodeling.

  • I'm not saying PM are not an amazing band, as they are one of my fav's. But alot of their songs are similar. Guitar effects and style of play does not have as much varity as DT (for my liking anyway).

DT are far more diverse and that's my opinion.

I don't see the point of arguing about it because it's like drawing blood from a stone.

Someone who's really into their rap or pop is not really going to like this style of music.

    Each to his own.

  • I believe DT to be more of a prog band in terms of constant time signature changes and obscurity (Dance of Eternity as a main focs point). This is just wat I enjoy more.

Don't know why yo are all getting so defensive about it lol

    Peace

    P.S.

I do believe PM's vocalist to be better than Labre. Maybe not when James was in his prime as he was awsome, but Nils' voice is as strong live now as it was when they first started

    Martin

  • ignorrant comment, listen to scenes from a memory or octavaruim you stupid ass

  • Mindless noodeling , Dream Theater will never be as creative as Images and Words , both John and Mike's ego's got to dam big! lol. Don't get me wrong Dream Theater has and always have great musicians in the band but If I want to listen to 15 minutes of scales I'll pop an instructional video in the old VCR.

    ignorant comment? no just opinionated.

stupid ass? I wont bother responding to that one.

  • ah sorry dude i was the stupid ass there, i disagree with you though!

  • I love this song. The original on the record is a masterpiece. Epic, varied, interesting and very well executed. Will definitely go and see them when they visit Stavanger, my home town.

  • Yes, I agree with that. I really like PM too, but I just think that in this song, the references just become a bit too obvious.. ;)

  • Ok, maybe it's not the excact lyrics, I was refering more to the melody, although "with confidence..." is the same. Anyways, I think it becomes too obvious what they listened to when they made this one.

  • Walking through winter streets alone he stops and takes and takes a breath, with confidence and self-control is a DIRECT rip-off of DTs lyrics to learning to live. And he sings it in almost the same melody as "There is no time for pain etc...".

  • Det er nok meninga det. Det er flere deler på Celestial Entrance som har diverse snitt fra DT. Eks: Aegan Shores 3:14 (Take The Time)

  • i totally agree with "djeikop".. i love PM but that is, im afraid, a rip-off.

  • i just saw these guys open up for Fates Warning, and they owned 'em! seriously i got bored watching FW... these guys stole the show!

  • please don't confuse DREAM THEATER with this band (i mean really!) 2 different bands, pagan's mind is much more metal. dream theater has never really been "metal"

these guys really take prog to a new level.

much better than dt live. labrie could only hope to sound this good live.

  • Woah, hold on there. You praise these guys like they taught DT how to play. That's not how it is. I can agree with you on only one thing, which is that these guys probably are more metal than DT. Pagan's Mind don't do anything revolutionizing with prog, actually, you find many bands more original than these guys. They are marvelous, yes, but please, better than their godfathers, DT? And as you should hear, if you know both bands, the verse is a complete rip-off of Learning To Live by DT.

  • It has definite similarities, but I wouldn't call it a ripoff. It sounds great, where's the harm? Its what I'd call an indicator of influence, Pagan's Mind have too much creative integrity to simply rip off...

  • I thought they were playing a modified Learning To Live :)))

    Great band anyway.

  • Also known as rip-off, if you ask me. That's abit too much inspiration imo.

  • one of the best bands out there right now

HAIL TO THEM BOTH!!!!

  • I GOT THE LAST LINE!!!

  • Translated to english: I am a huge fan of both bands, HammerFalls carrer is going to an end, if they wont stick toghether until they start dying. Anyway, the two bands are way different, and HF KICKS PMs ASS on stage, but PM has many cool riffs that beats HFs. If PM is still a big band in 5-10 years, it is a good possibility that they will outplay HF. HAIL TO THEM BOTH!!!

  • Now thats cool !

  • Lerning to Live by Dream Theater anyone? (the first bit of vocals) he he he, cool.

  • yeah that was pretty obvious to me...

  • One of their main influences. But yeah haha obviously

  • Nils sound a bit like Geoff Tate, but with some extra growls.. Nice vid!

  • små grønne menn! XD how cool!! :D Jørn is sooo hot! <3

  • ..impossible to find any pagan's mind's cds in italy!!

i find them in london! greattttt..

  • Wow, they had already gotten rid of Thorsten Abbey by this time.

  • XD Nils isn't as good live as he is in the recordings themselves.

  • Still a good singer tho, hint of Peter Gabriel in there too.

  • Now that I think about it, in relativity to other vocalists, he gets pretty fucking close to the studio recording, and he still sounds awsome.

  • Pagans Mind! I just blew my load.
