  • I bought Tango Discovery 4 years ago and read it and do the exercises, every year. Each time I gain new insight and inspiration. My tango continually changes and I feel like a new dancer every year. This is the first time I have watched anything by Mauricio Castro and it's amazing. I feel that I understand it and I'll try it with my favorite follow. It's very different from my current style though.

  • impressionnant.

  • I'm from Argentina. Tangotorment reminds me of local people in my country who keep discussing if Piazzolla is tango or is not tango. I think Piazzolla is tango. If you think is not, just don't listen to it. Same goes for the video. Move on into one of the other millions of YouTube videos.

By the way. Good work Mr. Castro!

  • Tangotorment sorry to be so rude but I'm also a tango dancer, respectful of other people's work. I think this guy Mauricio Castro is very good and professional. I also think that a good dancer could also lead a non professional dancer. Of course this guy Mauricio is dancing with someone who knows how to dance tango, we can see that but it doesn't mean that a similar move with a non proffesional could be made (maybe with some mistakes, but could be made).

  • This is very well possible, tangotorment, I did it myself recently with a beginner who only knew walking and back ochos. "What was that?" was her reaction.

  • So how come the lead be fantastic and then weak?

so what you call weak works?

I have amaze thousands of dancer like you, that for many years they where stuck on there own limitation.

maybe is time you learn something new :) just a nice thought

So, what would happen if you come to my class with somebody of your liking, and I Iead her the sequence?

Would you be honest enought to say something about it?

    from beautiful Buenos Aires

    Mauricio

  • This is horrible and nothing more than practiced choreography. Look at the boleo at :09. There is no lead. The girl simply raises her leg without any leading motion from Mauricio. Where is the motion leading her into a back ocho? And how is that translated into the motion for a boleo? These required elements of lead and follow do not exist in this boleo. It is rehearsed to the point of dancing with no lead. She barely needs a man to do this boleo, he is only there so she wont fall.

  • I do believe it is all lead, but the clip just not show it clearly. Maybe more precisely it is not a lead in the classic sense as it involves the use of ad hoc dis-balances and control the consequent dynamics. I do not think these videos pretend to show how to dance tango but it is more a hint to open the mind on the possible dynamics that one can study. As to myself I would not dance tango like this but I do appreciate the job ...I definitelt think there is more than a practiced choreo there.

  • The clip show very clearly what to do. So to get info out of the clip, depends on who is analyzing it. You are right about the off balance issue which is only ONE, of the techniques use in the video. There are many more shown!

    all the best

    Mauricio

  • yep indeed I mentioned the off balance just as one example of what you use here... among the other techniques ..which are also clearly visible to my eyes !

  • thanks for your comment !

If you have them, your questions are welcome :)

    Be Well

    Mauricio

  • Dear Mauricio,

unfortunately I am not experienced enough yet to recognise the advanced leading techniques you and gregnoli mentioned, but I am very interested in learning. Would you be so kind to explain just for the example of the boleo at 0:09 how you lead this?

    Best regards

    Zanchetta

  • Hola

It's lead like any other circular boleo, by contrary directions systems. She is going to my left, I'm going to her right.

What mite confuse some is that I don't lead with my torso, arms, intention or any other stuff that dancers use around.

For more details , there is a body of work of 3 books, 14 CDRoms, 3 DVDs and 4 audio CDs explaining in detail what to do and how to practice.

Saludos and thanks for your question.
