Another good defense against "the initial haymaker" (against a righthanded delivery) is to step back and rotate 90 degrees clockwise. Thus loading the right shoulder and then delivering a straight right hand to aggressor's jaw. While he is extended from the overthown punch.
no offense but i dont think people in a street fight wear gloves so the begining were you make a triangle might not work coz if he gets in the triangle its going to hurt
im sory but i think this technique is bulshit and puts u n even more danger. e.g: pause @ 00:51 f u block my punch like that ur opening urself to my left hand (and elbow), I can folow with my left hand to ur lungs, ribs, chin, head, jaw, ear even a knee to ur groin.
the attackers hand should end up on ur right, away from ur body.
I would just duck it, move slightly to my left and then can follow with hook to his right ribs
@hatela150 No..trust me, it works great contextually. Like he says, you don't want to do this in a boxing ring. However, in a street fight, where most attacks come from non-martial artists and involve one big, wild swing instead of direct, precise techniques put together in combination, this is the best way to block. You can trust me on that one, it's very effective. And of course, you gotta follow up.
@KayNyne13 I agree, ive used this block but without the secondary hand reinforcing the elbow. I think it does leave you a little to exposed on the other side. Most times, unless against a very hard hitting opponent, just the arm without reinforcement will do. Keeping your other hand free to either follow up straight away (another problem i feel with this block), or to defend against him again if he follows up straight away.
the guy i fought is a boxer if u put u r hand on u r ear and the other hand to support u r hand what the fuck is gonna happen to u r side he is gonna blow up u r fuckin liver
I liked your video! I'd like to ask though, do you feel at all vulnerable with that block, given that you're sort of leading with your face and nose? I know the supporting hand is kind of protecting it, but it does seem a little exposed to me.
@MeanEyedCats Your chin is down, you're disrupting his balance and elbow spearing his face at the same time, then you go into immediate counterattack, smashing him up with elbows, palms etc.. Exposed??
@piaten It's been a while since I watched it now, so I don't remember perfectly anymore, but in any case I'm thinking that if your opponent got a punch in towards your head he could connect with the nose and throw off your entire line.
@MeanEyedCats Everything is possible, and no technique or tactic is foolproof! But remember: You don't just stand there after closing, you follow up! Funny thing though: Just 1 hour ago, a drunk Ahole started picking a fight with me. While still seated, I subtly assumed this hand position, getting ready to explode into him! Lucky for him, my friend and a security guard intervened and bounced him out, just before I had to kill him! No punches ever thrown, cause I gave him no opening to attack!
If close to the opponent, I would prefer the option at 3:35. He would probably not expect you to get shaken or back off, not getting closer. And at that point, I would hit him on the chin and would not stop striking until he is down for good. Getting closer seems to be so unnatural, but with practice, it could become routine.
awesome thanks!!! its funny reading some of these comments....guru Simonet is this years Hall of Fame man of the year.... its best to listen more than mouthing.
at least he explains, more than once, that this is a last ditch kind of thing, not for use in a boxing kind of range. its possible that it can save you from a haymaker, but if you dont follow that up with anything, ur just open to his other fist, or knees, and so forth. to me, and im not an expert, working on proper deflections and blocks may be better for 'survivng the haymaker' than this, but doesnt mean that this would protect you as well.
after that you might want to go in for a uppercut to the stomach if its a unskilled fighter it knocks them off balance and deystroys there gaurd, then you would be on the offense
the guy with the gloves can counter easy left hook while moving to the left and then big right hand would do the trick bit if i was the old man i would prefer to go for a right hand to the body to avoid the hay maker and would probs hurt the guy bad or knock him of stance their you go you have all learnt what to do effectively
@pathos311 Yea then you go to jail for 20 fucking years if you pull an gun when you attacker is unarmed its murder not self defence, but murder do you understand that god damn.
hahaha this sort of stuff gets u knocked out in a fight.

@39mdg92 Yea, and all from a youtube video you decided your Wing Chun sifu would destroy this guy. And you're not naive? You're so experienced that you come on youtube to talk about how youre way is better and your sifu is a super purple ninja from the cosmos! Im guessing you have had little to no real life experience fighting or even training with high level fighters. Your Sifu would most likely lose to a 12 year old high school wrestler. Get over yourself.
Krav Maga taught me to avert the attack and use the motion to knock out the attacker. Boxing taught me to step into or out of his range into my range and knock him out. MMA taught me to to take down and hold via BJJ/Sambo/Catch wrestling. Ect. Ect.
Growing up in Detroit taught me to just avoid the fight. De-escalation is easy, so is avoidance. Pride will get a man killed. Thinking you can win in a fair fight is one thing, but all fights in the 'street' I have seen involve a gun/knife/object.

@GamoshRa just because you grew up in detriot means your a pro street wise dude?...maybe in my next life ill ask god to put me there cause im lookin for action. "survivability" its fun. straight up. if there was an apocalypse it would be like christmas. surviving lets you feel alive. surviving is what we are designed for. not watching tv all day.
@djphilmore Apocalypse??? The most likely apocalypse scenario will be a Carrington Event Solar Flare that will cause tremendous amounts of electricity to surge through power lines and destroy the computers that run all of our nuclear power plants around the world. When that happens the spent rods that rest in vats of water will lose their cooling water and then they will melt down. This will result in world wide radiation. How will you survive that?
@johnny102marvin thats most likely not gonna happen. and im not talking about that. and you know im not. if there was wipespread chaos the people who think they can de escalate the problem would be first to go lol. also lemme rephrase my previous comments phrase.. garbage if your squaring off. maybe use if you turn around and someone has swung on you out the blue. but anytime a punch comes in you should be pointing an elbow into the fist or a nerve in the arm. never block.
More MMA crap manipulating people that it's reality "self-defense", never ceases to amaze me, did I see a roundhouse kick? Wow. You'd get stabbed before even getting in position to do one
block and brace is good but you in a street fight and most fights is wild haymaker a brawler or a shooter rushing in fast where there is no rules i would block and strike to the eyes or nose or front kick to the goin.
@chess9920012002 You can still do that - but while training I guess you want to practice keeping that hand 'safe' and 'local' until you drill that cover/gouge/whatever. It's easy to forget this isn't a how-to-win but just a way to develop that reflex over time.
Not that it concerns me. I can turn into a forty foot tall robot.
umm Joe, never ever collapse like that to avoid a hay maker, Collapsing like that only helps me to knee you in the face ^-^.. the easiest and most effective way to avoid a hay maker is a Bil Sau.. please for the love of god stop polluting youtube with your filth.
@wotan237 For the purpose of drilling a particular thing you can't really train for all variables at once. However, if he does throw a hook, he has poor position to generate any force. On that beat your hand is braced (for whatever reason, I don't know) on the next half beat you've checked his left arm, or are trying to control his head, or even simply throwing what looks to be an obvious elbow. But that's back to drilling it.
so take the hit? what do you mean? evade and counter! if ur gonna duck, go under the punch, still looking at the person so you can see any other punches being thrown but get out of the way, stun, and end it with a right hook. never just take the punch, never underestamate some1 that much.
your still getting hit and if you use that block and his force is stronger then yours hes just going to crush your hand if it was me just a simple side kick to the knee and hes down simple and if your going on about staying in defence I think that its better to use that punch to throw your opponent and pin him down just what I think any ways
@johnyottpot it may not work for you but it works for me i have long legs and strong my reach with my leg is longer then an arm so for me it work it may not work for all but it works for me and im not sure what your trying to say
I just kills me to read the crap stated by people who have NO CLUE what this man can do! I know Sifu Joseph Simonet very well, and guess what? He is the REAL DEAL! He knows what he is doing, and is definitely a force to be reconed with! The man lives and breathes this stuff! Go see him if you have any doubts!
@SpringwoodSkate26 Could. But the attacker has already committed. If you're skilled enough to alter your shot mid flight and keep up the power, which is possible, he's obviously defending himself from the wrong mugger/attacker/relative at a christening. 0__< To be fair, the human arm is a pretty shoddy shield, but it tries its hardest.
Teaching to take a punch has got to be the lamest strategy I have heard. A big guy throwing a bomb against a little guy like me would just knock me over. This has got to be your last resort defense. I can't believe he would teach this.
@Multiwillm He says, " I can absorb this punch" Maybe he can, he's a big dude. If he threw this punch against me, and I triangulate, it would knock me over I'm sure.
@BKKaye if you move foward like he said he will hit you with his wrist(almost) this will make the punch weaker and you can take it. just try not to throw a punch straight away after doing this because you will be off balance so try move back after and get your balance right.
the best ways to deal with a haymaker, 1. u can dodge it by ducking or backing up, and as soon as it misses, he is open in his spleen, liver and kindneys. do some heavy body shots. or 2. u can move in and knock his arm out of the way, leaving his face open. either one can work depending on who your fighting. or 3. u cn duck under and take him down
@Sporefanatic515 thanx. now days, they got fighting down to a science in the ufc... i dont, but ive never lost a scrap. so, obviously i must be doin something right. lol.

Its all sizes you go against in a street fight the the block won't work if a small short person against big strong person if he come at you with a haymaker or shoot at you
I absolutely love this training video but i'm a lady whose gotten too old to BOB and WEAVE. At my age, I now have to LIFT and PULL (the trigger of my GLOCK)....
rubbish! this technique is very wrong, DON'T touch your head , coz whole punch will hit you with same power like without blocking. - just shoot your elbow up, throwing open palm to the back on your shoulder level. Try this, and you will see its working even with FULL power punch :)
hay guy did you take time to learn what you cliaim trom a book or watching to many redneck karate movie. cuz as far i can see your techniques were barrowed from diferentof styles and put togetrher so you can cliam to anybody that you are who you say. see coming from my training as ai me life oakland jkd practioner i have one advied if you think yteo hand to you from me to a wann be.
@espiritual1000 Paul Vunak! That's the guy! I found one of his clips on here about a year or so ago abut 2 on 1 defence. It was really good, about splitting the two guys to turn it into 1 on 1. Just could find the damn thing again.
> Anatomy of street fight-part 6
The guy's really good, nothing about hold or moves, just how to get out of a situation really quickly and 'relatively' easily, with simple head, punch, kick moves.
Another good defence against the haymaker is to "poawowt a 45 and settuwit"

chess9920012002 1 year ago
@chess9920012002 You can still do that - but while training I guess you want to practice keeping that hand 'safe' and 'local' until you drill that cover/gouge/whatever. It's easy to forget this isn't a how-to-win but just a way to develop that reflex over time.
Not that it concerns me. I can turn into a forty foot tall robot.
thefirstnobletruth 1 year ago
umm Joe, never ever collapse like that to avoid a hay maker, Collapsing like that only helps me to knee you in the face ^-^.. the easiest and most effective way to avoid a hay maker is a Bil Sau.. please for the love of god stop polluting youtube with your filth.

Why waste time blocking it? Why not just move pack slightly and let his swing miss and then just go forward with a hard right hand?
Makes more sense, he isn't even touching you and you are staying away and in control. This is bollox, it works in some scenarios, but not this one.

i bet the guy that he does the demonstrations on REALLY wants to just deck him and show him up to be a pussy
PISTOLonlyGAMEPLAYS 1 year ago
what if the assailant throws a left jab as you block? Your right arm is used up bracing your left, so you are wide open to get struck
wotan237 1 year ago
@wotan237 For the purpose of drilling a particular thing you can't really train for all variables at once. However, if he does throw a hook, he has poor position to generate any force. On that beat your hand is braced (for whatever reason, I don't know) on the next half beat you've checked his left arm, or are trying to control his head, or even simply throwing what looks to be an obvious elbow. But that's back to drilling it.
thefirstnobletruth 1 year ago
No offence, but from experience, id already be driving my knee up into your chest (look at 2:25) right after the blow.
Definitely useful if used right quickly though.

so take the hit? what do you mean? evade and counter! if ur gonna duck, go under the punch, still looking at the person so you can see any other punches being thrown but get out of the way, stun, and end it with a right hook. never just take the punch, never underestamate some1 that much.

Since when is Tom Berenger a Martial Arts Instructor?! :P
doktorfurunkulus 1 year ago
your still getting hit and if you use that block and his force is stronger then yours hes just going to crush your hand if it was me just a simple side kick to the knee and hes down simple and if your going on about staying in defence I think that its better to use that punch to throw your opponent and pin him down just what I think any ways

I just kills me to read the crap stated by people who have NO CLUE what this man can do! I know Sifu Joseph Simonet very well, and guess what? He is the REAL DEAL! He knows what he is doing, and is definitely a force to be reconed with! The man lives and breathes this stuff! Go see him if you have any doubts!

in the first haymaker block thing
that could leave your cheek right open and if the attaker were lucky than it could make direct contact ?
SpringwoodSkate26 1 year ago
@SpringwoodSkate26 Could. But the attacker has already committed. If you're skilled enough to alter your shot mid flight and keep up the power, which is possible, he's obviously defending himself from the wrong mugger/attacker/relative at a christening. 0__< To be fair, the human arm is a pretty shoddy shield, but it tries its hardest.
thefirstnobletruth 1 year ago
Teaching to take a punch has got to be the lamest strategy I have heard. A big guy throwing a bomb against a little guy like me would just knock me over. This has got to be your last resort defense. I can't believe he would teach this.
BKKaye 1 year ago
@BKKaye ur not always gonna be throwin the punches. im a street fighter and beilive me this is one of the best defences out there
Multiwillm 1 year ago
@Multiwillm He says, " I can absorb this punch" Maybe he can, he's a big dude. If he threw this punch against me, and I triangulate, it would knock me over I'm sure.
BKKaye 1 year ago
@BKKaye if you move foward like he said he will hit you with his wrist(almost) this will make the punch weaker and you can take it. just try not to throw a punch straight away after doing this because you will be off balance so try move back after and get your balance right.

I want to try to attack him :D

the best ways to deal with a haymaker, 1. u can dodge it by ducking or backing up, and as soon as it misses, he is open in his spleen, liver and kindneys. do some heavy body shots. or 2. u can move in and knock his arm out of the way, leaving his face open. either one can work depending on who your fighting. or 3. u cn duck under and take him down

Its all sizes you go against in a street fight the the block won't work if a small short person against big strong person if he come at you with a haymaker or shoot at you

rubbish! this technique is very wrong, DON'T touch your head , coz whole punch will hit you with same power like without blocking. - just shoot your elbow up, throwing open palm to the back on your shoulder level. Try this, and you will see its working even with FULL power punch :)
take care

@espiritual1000 Paul Vunak! That's the guy! I found one of his clips on here about a year or so ago abut 2 on 1 defence. It was really good, about splitting the two guys to turn it into 1 on 1. Just could find the damn thing again.
> Anatomy of street fight-part 6
The guy's really good, nothing about hold or moves, just how to get out of a situation really quickly and 'relatively' easily, with simple head, punch, kick moves.
