  • @jrobichess Is this chessboard, used in the video, easily downloaded or how did u get it??

  • hope not hop

  • i thought after topalov was creativly planing the attack he was going to win but after he was down a pawn i was not sure what would happen

  • the moment I saw bishop to d7 I got really exited. Especially since the past games have been very repetitive.

  • at 13:05, why not play pawn to d2?

  • @xobile12

Topalov thought he could win the game in this position. He did not want to draw here, but exactly that would happen after black plays d2. White takes Nxd2, black Qxd2 and white Qxc4. A draw position (or even winning position for white with the passed pawn on the c file?).

  • Sick Ass Commentator!!!!!!!

  • at 08:21 why topolov does not position the bishop at c5?

  • i bet jrobi is the best chess player at his work place

  • I've been watching games 1 to 6 and it is now 22:10.

    Just one more...

  • OK i've now got to the point where I'm chanting at the begining for a queen doble opening. It will be the smartest move for him NOT to do it but a little part of me wants it.

  • jrobi i got a question at about 17:42 when the white Queen goes to f3 why dosnt black capture the knight on f2 so when the queen recaptures black does d2-d1 and promotes to a queen and then are up a pawn in the position?

  • @emptylolpuh because the king can recapture on f2 and the queen will still be able to capture blacks d-pawn if it goes to d1.

  • @emptylolpuh :What if white captures with the king???

  • players nowadays having boring styles of play. doing the same thing over and over.

  • 13:05, why didn't he push that pawn to defend the queen? If he took with the knight black wins the exchange and if not black passes a pawn

  • @MrPijhytrredcggsdwe Because 1. NxD2 QxD2 2. QxC4 Black exchanges his two important pawns for that knight but also gives white a passed C pawn. and what was a drawn position is now lost.

  • @nioor Thank you. I knew I was missing something, just couldn't see it.

  • can someone please tell me at the end why top didnt play e1 with queen instead he played e3???

  • I find it funny that gm's accept the whole "it's fine to draw as black" thing, when historically black wins more than white. I always find it funny when an idea supersedes fact.

  • what a game by black! wow!! thanx for going over this. how impressive

  • @jrobichess

where can you download ripka or whatever is the software that you use to analyze the games

  • dude, plez tell me how u watch them live

  • 9:20

Why wouldn't Anand want Topalov push his pawn to C3? That would mean Anand would get Topalov's queen...

  • @Einfrein i think he means in the future because that pawn is close to promotion

  • 9:20

Why would Topalov go with his pawn to C3 for any reason? That would mean that Anand would get Topalov's queen?

  • after 14:40, I'm surprised black doesn't play Qd2 threatening c3. it pins also so white can only defend c3 with Qa1. It would seem to spread white's defense out more allowing a king-side pawn attack, but white does have checks to avoid losing probably.

  • @author

at 12:20 - why did topolov moved Qa4? He could have pushed Qb2 when e was planning to attack both c3 pawn and bishop. The next possible move could have been after Qb2 - Ne4-Rf2; Qg2-Rxf3. I think Topolov could have done better (from my amateur point of view). I would like to see you coming with a detailed end game analysis of the match in a separate video.

  • At around 17:30ish, couldn't Topalov have gone Qe1, forcing Anand to move his queen or lose it? I can't find a feasible move that wouldn't result in Topalov coming out ahead? I think something like Qe1 Qc2(pretty much any position is countered by Qc1), Qc1 Qa4/Qa2(Ends up losing a knight), Qxc3. Even if he lets the inevitable d2-d1, NxQd1 QxNd1 resulting in Topalov being up a pawn?

Do I have all that right? If all that makes sense... Which I'm starting to doubt...

  • @TehEon anand will take the queen? and then when pawn captures anand's queen, king takes pawn and then white is a knight ahead.

  • On Topalov's 33rd move he could have played D3 to D2 i'f he did how would this effect the game if both players were doing the best moves starting from this position and on.

  • @ 11:25 why cant topalov move his queen to b2?!

  • At 13:08 couldn't black have played d2? It would seem that this forces white to drop the material advantage by taking the pawn. If he doesn't, and moves something like Knf2, black takes the c pawn, and it seems that if black moves right, there is nothing white can do to stop the promotion...

  • i just can't stop watching your vids!

  • it was very beautiful game. On this situation topalov had to run the risk and he did it on a wonderful way. Nice attacking variation.

  • If you go to 12 :11 seconds, why doesn't Topalov play Queen to h2, that would threaten the pawn and knight at the same time????

  • 18: 08 Queen to E1, queen trade, pawn promotes (knight cannot take), if knight moves the pawn on C3 falls, if the knight moves to E4 queen takes, Checks and king must defend the pawn on G1( if not resign), queen to E3 to have lunch. Black could have easily won. It made me angry. What's worse is that I think when the trade was offered, he didn't do it.

  • @furyberserk I wondered why he didnt do that as well.

  • 17:51 Queen to D5 Check

    King moves somewhere

    Queen to F3.

The Queen is no longer checking the black king and must move to defend the pawn, but it would still put the knight and pawn in the defense without too many playable moves from my perspective.

  • @furyberserk

also, if the king moved to G3, then the Queen could have moved to E3 trade off the queens, the pawn promotes and the black gets another queen, or black queen to E5 Check again, King moves, take the unprotected C3 pawn and then have more movability. Because of the checks, the queen can't do anything, the knight could fall from a pawn promotion, a lot could have happend from that. In my opinion.

  • @furyberserk it isn't forced though is it? couldn't white just reply Qc2, and of course promoting would not be possible because of the black knight. And then play could just move on...

  • At 11:20 rather than move his rook down to e2 why doesn't he move his queen down to b2 forking the pawn and knight as well as putting pressure on the rook on a1?

  • After Topalov's pawn push to d2 (16:48), why couldn't he push the queen down to e1 at 18:06 and force his own queen trade? 1...Qe1 2. Qxe1 dxe1=Q and a monster advantage?

  • thank you for your reply on my previous comment. in the light of black playing pawn to D2 which white could have countered by moving knight to F2, white surrenders pawn at C3 to black's queen. both passed pawns thereby pose potential threats for white. in my opinion, black has the victory in this position and the worst black can run into is a draw.

  • @4:10 the rook can't move to b8 because the bishop on f4 would take it

  • at 13:30, why didnt topaluv push pawn down to D2. that protects topaluv's queen and leaves anand without choice but to take pawn with knight and lose his knight.

  • this is the best chess match i seen yet. great!!!

  • the only thing i hate about these videos are the name pronounciations.. they are NOT english damn it

  • Does anyone but me like it when the chess board zooms out right after the title?

  • @necrogon22 I actually do :)

  • in the end kink f3 and naite e4

  • Just when I was starting to think Topalov sucked......

I love creative, aggressive attacking play.

  • @mikeusat topolav never sucked he just got outplayed he is an attacking animal

  • Comment removed

  • 12:22 why not Qb2

  • hi jrobi, thx for posting those videos. they are perfect for filling the evening hours :-)

  • Moving the pawn too d2 at 13.20 or related times is a bad move for black, the exchange results in a protected passed pawn for Anand on the c file e.g 1. d2 Nxd2 2. Qxd2 Qxc3, In the case of 14.12 d2 wont be met with Nxd2 white can just play Nf2 attacking the d1 square and blacks vital c4 pawn is now undefended and under attack from whites queen.

  • He wont lose shit. After Kg1, Qxc3 and black is still winning.

  • ON 13:19 and y not 1. Qc2 2. Qf2 or Qg2 or Qh3 3.f5 cuz after 4. Nd2 queen can take the pawn or after 4 QXQc2 5.d3xQ can't stop promotion

I know I am missing out something here, lol .

  • man great game !!!

    nice try for topalov

  • great commentary. you should do chess for ESPN's Sportcenter or Chess Tonight.

  • Anand team disliked this video :D

  • At time 14:12 why wouldn't topolva push the pawn to d2?

  • @zuli3 cuz after 1.d2 2.NXd2 3. QXNd2+ 4.Kg1 black will lose the pawn that is putting all the pressure and the game is draw.

  • at 14:47 why couldnt topalov just gone queen to e2? he would have been able to stop the rook from moving and gotten another queen by moving his pawn up right?

  • I am really enjoying your videos man, excellent job! Thanks for posting! A definite gem by Topalov I have to say. Even though it was a draw, which works for black, his aggressive nature really came through. It brought back sweet memories of Game 1! Really really great chess. I wish I could play like that!

  • LOL , in chess , don't know why I really love playing chess with black pieces because I love defensive and aggressive counter attack . But sometimes I really attacks at black .

  • Hi, jrobi!

I am not good at chess, but I saw the same move sourrooster has seen... I would like to see what would've happened if Topalov had played that move that is pawn to d2...

Thank you very much for the awesome job you've been doing! Love your videos and analysis! ^^

  • How come Topalov didn't move Pawn to d2 at 13:30 instead? The Knight couldn't take it and the Queen would've been pinned.

  • Comment removed

  • @sourrooster , at 13:30 after d2 moves, knight can simply eat that pawn and after Q:d2, Q:c4. white has better position because it's c pawn is now threating to move in to Queen.

  • lol check out how many people going for anand compared to topalov. (im voting for topalov lolz)

  • it seems to me like both players and their "teams" are putting so much analysis into these games that all their moves are contrived. is this generally what high level chess is like?

  • the difference between white and black pieces is exactly like in tennis, the difference between the one who serves and the one who receives, usually white/serve wins cauz of the initiative ;)

  • everyone who's rooting for Anand thumbs up

  • I luv your commentry ... simply awesome ...

  • Great game. Thanks jrobi!

  • 17:40 why didn't topalov take the knight instead, and forcing the queen trade? then at that point when the queen recaptures, move the d pawn down, and promote to a queen again, so anand would have been down a horse from the previous position?

  • Comment removed

  • @moondancer33

ignore that last comment, it would have been more advantageous to move the queen to E1 at 18:08

  • @moondancer33 if anand recaptures with the king, the queening spot is held

  • good game!

  • Where do you guys see this live? on the anand-topalov side there is no live broadcast.

  • GROOOWL..any fellow chess hooligans around ? ( : ..

  • What a great game.

  • One of your best videos. Keep up the good work.

  • Great videos!

  • 17:40 if topalov takes the KNIGHT he could've promoted but he still might draw, its better than the other way though.

  • @llK1NGp1Nll Actually, Anand would just take the queen with his king... thus having his own queen still defending d1

  • @Zavox but its a better position

  • @llK1NGp1Nll No it's not, it is a horrible position and will result in a lost game.

  • @llK1NGp1Nll Nice thought but look at it again anand could take with the king then it would be game over for topalov

  • nice to see a game that happened this decade

  • Jrobi...where do you watch the live chess tournament?

Could you please share it with us?

    Thanks a lot!

    I appreciate your videos...wonderful job!

  • Thanks for the video!

I'm rooting for Anand but this was still a MUCH more interesting game than the others.

  • When is the next game?

If I missed game 8 when is game 9?

  • At 18:08, why can't Topalav go Q-e1.

  • @PraveenAtheray because he's looking for a draw. if they trade queens he has no piece to defend the pawns and white king will munch them up with the knight blocking D pawn, which. given that he cannot win in this situation, a draw is the only option for topalov.

  • @realisticcid just saw your point he would have a promoted pawn. either he wanted the guarenteed draw, rather than risking it to win, or he was too foceused on the draw to see this play. i guess.

  • @PraveenAtheray "At 18:08, why can't Topalav go Q-e1."

Anand would not have traded queens in the position. He would have played Qc2, or a waiting move with his king. Either way, the position is drawn.

  • ur vids r awesome! thank you !

  • @author at 13:07 sec after rooks are exchanged and both queens are facing each other, topolov could have pushed d3 pawn to d2. Anand had to shift knight to f2 to stop promotion and topolov could have taken the loose c3 pawn. Please comment

  • @PHUTOTUNI My guess is Nxd2 Qxd2, Qxc4. Equality of material, but White has a passed pawn. Topalov probably considered it wasn't worth the risk, as I doubt he could have forced a draw very quickly.

  • @PHUTOTUNI I'd say white just takes d2 with the knight, queen takes knight but white gets black's other pawn on c4 and white is left with the only passed pawn. how is this good for black? it's not... so d2 can't be played.

  • How much time does each player get per game?

  • nice to see, that u say u would be shocked if topalov opens up game 8 with a queen pawn, what actually happened xD

    still like your vids ;D

    greetz from germany

  • @freddyp91

it's protecting that black pawn there. if he moved the queen to h5, the knight would have taken the pawn. at that point, anand may have gotten his pawn get to c8 eventually, definately not good for topalov, who was already down pieces.

  • 33... d2 34. Nxd2 Qxd2 35. Qxc4 g6 or g5 is another solution to think about, I think. What do you think?

  • and what abour Ne4 at 10:35?

  • @sourpower123456 I would spontaneously think about f7-f5 to be a strong answer. What do you think?

  • you are amazing! keep up he good work!

  • I can't wait for the game 8 analysis!

  • @freddyp1: just doesn't achieve much I think, queen g1 defends and the knight is protecting f3. More interesting for me was at 10.17 Topalov playing Re2 immediately then playing a bishop sacrafice Bxg3 followed by Qh5+ looked cool but with the white bishop defending a5 it was impossible because after Re2 white would have played Ra5 busting the queen from the line.

Jrobi: where are you watching the matches live? thanks for the videos!

  • somehow i'd love if topalov opened with queen's pawn again. why? if he defeats anand that way it'd be 10x more interesting. he's been trying to this whole time; he'll definitely get all his confidence back in sucession

  • apologies for the ignorance, or if anyone has already asked this but what happens if after the 12 games the players have the same points total in the world chess championship?

    Once more thanks for posting

  • That was a really really good video, although I think you set a record for the most times saying "in the position" in one video, but it was really great videos. Thanks a lot for posting it.

  • Nice changeup from topalov. Now that he won game 8 the momentum swung and the race became much more interesting. Though I regret the fact that D4 still prevails.

  • love the videos keep em coming!

  • I love your commentaries JRobi. Great job.

Wow what a crazy game! I was glad to see Topalov play this attacking style, as he came in saying he would, No Draws ect.

As far as Topalov not playing Queens pawn opening next game.....

Don't get your hopes up, and have that *facepalm* ready! :p

Anand not being able to beat Tpoalov with the white pieces 2 games in a row though is definitely not a good sign for Anand. Then again It's beenm what 5 or 6 games since Topalov beat Anand? Game 1?

  • Great video!!! you always better jrobiches, Topalov really play to win an amazing sacrifice both of them are champions they are way a head than Magnus wich i think is great too but needs more experience like Anand or Topalov.

  • awesome, you would have to be a real attacking expert to sacrifice a rook like that.

  • "pawn to d4"

    *epic sigh*

    e4 plz?

  • Go Anand!!

  • i think Bb4 at 10:45 was to prevent the rook from coming to a5....

  • Really nice commentary. Beautiful tale about the rook, I didn't get that at all :P.

    Keep up the good work!

  • I have only recently subscribed to your channel, but I am really starting to appreciate these videos of games from the great masters of chess. You have an incredible amount of insight, and it really makes it a great both entertaining and learning experience to watch the game with your commentary. Thank you so much for this video, and I look forward to the next one!

  • Anand still leads 4-3 !!!

  • 11:26, black queen to b2? why not

  • @MaZe741 That leaves the pawn on c4 undefended and removes the defender from d3. The queen then would be tied to that d3 pawn to defend it.

  • Go Topalov!

  • I just never thought that chess can be so exciting. nice video and very nice commentary. I wanna know can I watch these games live cuz I don't know which channels air them and these channels are probably not available in Egypt. Also might help so much if it's streamed online somewhere. thank you for your videos and keep them up :)

  • nice. i liked it. thx

  • move 51 or somthing was remise... (17:55)

  • another thing that was interesting is that anand took much more time in the beginning of the game and topalov was playing almost at a blitz rate. Being able to change up the variation first helped him stay in the lines that his team prepared, and confuse anand for a bit.

  • The 8th game started with 1.d4 again

  • ha ha good job jrobi

  • In the next game..

And white opens with queen's gambit, d4.. *bam*

  • love the video mate. wow what a crazy game!

  • At 6:56 you said that Topalov was a couple of pawns down. But if I count Topalov has got 7 pawns and Anand 6. So..??

  • @GodForYa He was counting the knight for 3 pawns

  • Very interesting and educative, thanks for sharing.

  • awsome game, and awsome comments jrobi! Thanks again :)

  • Thanks for all your videos jrobihess! really intense game. What is your view on the bishop to B4 check from Topalov? was it to disrupt Anand's structure by forcing the bishop to protect?

  • Great game by Topalov, but Anand just defended really well against Topa's prep. I think this game also shows Anands OTB chess skills against such a ferocious attack. This would 've probably given Topa the point against other super GM's but my God, Anand is just the best at the moment.

  • Awesome!

  • Hmm I'm Glad i subbed, excellent commentary

  • Great job Jrob enjoying the coverage so far

  • awesome job from topalov i love this!! he played awesome offensive chess without mistakes !!maybe the best game between them !!! thanks jrobichess for uploading we are waiting the next games thnx!!!

  • Instad of Qb1+ anad could have played Kf3, rite?

  • best game so far, exciting

  • man ur doing the great great job I like ur video. I have seen all 7 games and all video are execellent . Iots of respect for u. And please upload some video about how grand master think about the game and game planning. I m a learning and i sometime feel akward during the opening 10 steps of the game when someone move queen early.

  • Looks like Topalov did his homework! Cool game!

Let's see how he does in the next one! It will be an awesome game, I can't wait!

Oh does anyone know how long this game lasted?

  • @oddle29922992 Don't know, but the first 20 moves, topalov took 3 minutes and anand took an hour

  • O'wow, Topalov! What has Anand got to be thinking after that! Way to weather the storm.

  • excellent commentary jrobi. Topalov really is a tiger

  • It takes guts to play like this against Anand... Scarifying materials and attacking with black. Thx jrobi for the vid and the commentary.

  • Topalov was holding out!

    Nice change at 5)... Be7

Then the setup at 9)... b5, after 11)... Bd7 it was a fight

Most exciting game I think. lol

  • @ 17:37 topalov did Qe3, why didnt he go to e1? He would have been up if he did?

  • nevermind i see what he woulda done..

  • that was some very nice firepower action... after what topalov did today i can't wait to see the game tomorrow where he will be able to shoot first.

Big thx jrobi for the coverage of the WCC.

  • Hi Jrobi, you r doing a great job! Thanks!

  • Awesome game. Thanks for posting!

  • great analysis! I was curious about Topalov giving up his rook and you explained it very well. Perhaps next time Anand plays as white he might try something completely different because d2 d4 doesn't seem to be very productive for either player. What opening would you most like to see?

  • How come after Re2 he didnt play Qb2 attacking EVERYTHING. the pawn the rook and the knight it would be impossible to protect them all do you see a downside to that. he also ended up playing Qa4 but Qb2 just seems better what is the downside.

  • Everyone who's rooting for Topalov, thumb this comment!

  • Thanks for posting up the video when you could. Since I don't have access to this stuff (at least I don't think I do), I do appreciate the effort you put out there jrobi. I'm sick of seeing the Queen's Pawn opening so yeah I also hope Topalov brings something new to the table.

  • lol at ppl talking about getting bored of d4 opennings if u play d4 then u should be enjoying this well unless u pretty much a nub this was amazing game by topalov the attack and stuff definitly sth worth working on, i hope he can keep playing like this or it's pretty much over w/ some solid defensive player like anand. i dont think d4 would be that shocking cuz like we see in this one there r many variations to come. this reminds me a lot of tal games, and how chess is not dead yet

  • Great commentary, I am learning so much. Tnx
